Breaking Down the Blue driver obd scanner: Where Do Its Promises and Pitfalls Lie?
User-Friendly and Comprehensive: The BlueDriver Bluetooth Pro OBDII Scan Tool is celebrated for its user-friendly interface and extensive features. As Michael points out, it is “so user-friendly” that it suits both novices and experienced mechanics. Additionally, he appreciates the inclusion of videos, notes, and an “excellent support department” that further enhance the user experience.
Accurate Diagnostics: Many users, like James Weathers, praise the BlueDriver for its accurate diagnostic capabilities. James mentions that it “has been able to scan without issues” on various car models, including a Mazda, BMW, and Ford. This precision in detecting and reporting diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) makes it a reliable tool for car owners.
Cost-Effective and Time-Saving: Adam C. highlights the cost-effectiveness and convenience of the BlueDriver. He shares that it “paid for itself in less than a week” by enabling him to diagnose and repair his vehicle without a costly trip to the mechanic. This aspect is particularly beneficial for users looking to save money and avoid the hassle of visiting repair shops.
Limited Compatibility with Certain Car Models: Some users have reported issues with the BlueDriver’s compatibility with specific car brands. For instance, Diego found the device “useless for Porsche or BMW” as it failed to detect basic error codes on his 2015 Macan and 2017 X6, which were detected by other tools. This suggests that potential buyers should verify compatibility with their car models before purchasing.
Incomplete Data and Missing Features: Ken A. notes that the BlueDriver provides “minimal sensor info” compared to cheaper alternatives. He experienced this limitation with his 2018 Volvo, where it did not display critical information such as transmission temperature and oil temperature. Users looking for comprehensive sensor data might find the BlueDriver lacking in this aspect.
The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
I bought 2 ODB scanners from 2 different manufactures at the same time. ANCEL obd2 scanner was returned for refund because it couldn’t detect and report the 4 DTCs which the BlueDriver could. I’ll keep the BlueDriver. My car are 2013 Toyota Sienna & 2003 Acura TL 3.2.
The hubs has had this for quite awhile not used many times yet from what he has said he isn’t disappointed, said he’d buy again!

Works on my 2018 Silverado
Prior to buying this, I had an ABS message pop up on my dash along with a bad TPMS on one tire on my 2018 Chevy Silverado. Seeing this was on sale I took a chance on it. Upon connecting to my truck and then updating its firmware I ran a scan and it found the ABS error but not the TPMS one. I didn’t bother running a second scan as I started to research some of the other minor errors that were found. This unit seems to work well for my liking. The suggested fixes, links to additional products, ability to clear codes, ability to save and send reports are all great. I like how it shows you if an error is common or not. Overall it’s a great tool for me.

2013 prius scanning
I have another Bluetooth tool that I got a decade ago and figured it was finally time for an upgrade. Tool definitely seems to be able to read more data than the old tool. Only downside is it doesn’t seem to have any tpms or airbag capabilites with my particular prius model. Also takes a little while to connect sometimes.

Doesn’t work on all cars
Bought this device in January 2024 to diagnose a check engine light on a 2015 Chevy Equinox. It would not even power up, so I got a replacement that also didn’t work. I forgot about it as I used an analyzer lent by a local auto parts store. Well, I have a check engine light again so I had to go back to the auto parts store again. It’s beyond the return period so I’m stuck with it. P.s. it works well on my wife’s Mini Cooper so I guess it’s not defective, it just doesn’t work on my 2015 Chevy Equinox.

Excellent
Works extremely well, and makes diagnosing and replacing bad parts easy.

Nice when it works. Only works about 10% of the time.
Had nothing but issues basically. The first one I ordered didn’t work at all so I had to return it for a replacement. And the second one I got has constant trouble connecting and is painfully slow, just to fail the “ diagnosis” like 90% of the time. If you only work on your car once and a while maybe it’s worth it but if you’re working on cars more than once a week it’s just a hassle that adds about 20 minutes of waiting to you’re job. Better off just diagnosing the old fashioned way.

Doesn’t read ABS codes on 2005 Acura TSX
Bought this specifically because the description says “reads and clears ABS codes”. Except it didn’t. I Purchased another bluetooth-interface OBDII reader on Amazon and it did actually read out the ABS code and let me know what the issue is. Either the description is misleading, or there should be a list of cars that this will work properly with. Had I known I wouldn’t have wasted time and money shipping and returning this.

Great software! Small package.
OBDII testers and “dongles” seem to be pretty ubiquitous these days, so the software seems to be the best selling point. This one has some very useful and comprehensive functions that make it stand out above many others. Installation is falling-off-a-log simple, and the software has links to “real life” solutions to trouble codes. Something that most others don’t seem to have – yet. I’m waiting for that promised day when “computers will diagnose and repair themselves”, but until then, this seems to come the closest to that goal.

Can’t read the error code “Front Left Malfunction Service Required”
The product cannot read some error codes, such as “ Front Left Malfunction Service Required”. I had to buy one from other brands to read and clear the code. It wastes my time and the money

It works
Great Bluetooth capability ,connect great with your phone fast and easy to use. It works better than a more expensive diagnostic tool gives lots of information. Use it before buying a car.

Inaccurate Readings
It gave codes that didn’t seem to relate to the actual issue, leading me to waste time and money on repairs that weren’t necessary.

Works as intended
Works well easy to connect
luis youngblood –
reliable and works
pulls up codes for not only the check engine light but the ABS, various modules, and a lot of things. still works after 3+ years too. performs smog checks, shows the live data, and actually clears codes. after the first time it connects automatically. gives you amazon links as well to parts you need and it’s helped me repair my car numerous times.

Best Obd2 car scanner I’ve ever had
I worked on a 2018 Lexus RX350. While changing the rear brake, I forgot to disable the auto parking brake. As a result, the caliper came off completely, and I had to manually push it back in place. After that, my Lexus displayed a “Parking Brake Malfunction. Contact your Lexus Dealer” error message. The dealership quoted me $3,000 to replace the caliper and actuator, which I found ridiculous. Other auto shops were unwilling to take on the job, so I decided to use BlueDriver, which turned out to be very easy to use. I was able to clear the error code and re-enable the auto parking brake feature. Now, I’m happy to report that there are no more warning messages or yellow lights on my dashboard. The auto parking brake is fully functional again!

Blue Driver is a must
Excellent! It does exactly as it claims. Even gives YouTube links on how to fix stuff. Scan reports can be saved so you have log and you don’t forget what’s going on with the vehicle. No cords or wires. Diagnostics are accurate so far. No complaints.

Best scanner ever
It’s the perfect scanner to have. Any problem I’ve had the blue driver detected it and I fixed it and my car runs great! Saved me tons of money not having to take it to the dealership or expensive service centers just to diagnose the issue! I love my blue driver!!

Not worth the money.
I tried using it multiple times, but it never seems to give accurate codes or data.

Excellent diagnostic tool!
The tool is GREAT! It’s pretty straight forward to use. My 2008 Jaguar XJ had failed inspection due to a couple of modules not being reset yet. The inspector recommended that I drive the car for some miles to allow for them to reset. After driving for more than 100 miles, the module still had not reset. I went about disconnecting the battery and letting it sit for a while. Well, I shouldn’t have done that because other modules now had to have time to reset. Well, here’s when I decided to purchase the BlueDriver Bluetooth Pro OBD2 Car Scan Tool and Code Reader! It was a time saver in telling when the modules were all reset, rather than me running back and forward to the inspection station. This is an AWESOME product!

Great scan tool
I have had it for 7 years now. Still works wonderful. Since my mechanic skills have increased greatly over the past 7years I wish it could do more like bidirectional control, misfire counter ect. You would have to invest more money into one that can do those things in which I plan to buy in 2025 if the Lord allows. But for the money you paid for this scanner it does tells and shows you a lot of data. It’s a good investment to have on hand .

So disappointed
I saw a lot of good reviews about this device, so I was thinking of replacing my old obd with this one. This device took 7-10 minutes to do a full scan. I have tried everything but the device is just too slow.
