Breaking Down the Blue driver obd scanner: Where Do Its Promises and Pitfalls Lie?
User-Friendly and Comprehensive: The BlueDriver Bluetooth Pro OBDII Scan Tool is celebrated for its user-friendly interface and extensive features. As Michael points out, it is “so user-friendly” that it suits both novices and experienced mechanics. Additionally, he appreciates the inclusion of videos, notes, and an “excellent support department” that further enhance the user experience.
Accurate Diagnostics: Many users, like James Weathers, praise the BlueDriver for its accurate diagnostic capabilities. James mentions that it “has been able to scan without issues” on various car models, including a Mazda, BMW, and Ford. This precision in detecting and reporting diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) makes it a reliable tool for car owners.
Cost-Effective and Time-Saving: Adam C. highlights the cost-effectiveness and convenience of the BlueDriver. He shares that it “paid for itself in less than a week” by enabling him to diagnose and repair his vehicle without a costly trip to the mechanic. This aspect is particularly beneficial for users looking to save money and avoid the hassle of visiting repair shops.
Limited Compatibility with Certain Car Models: Some users have reported issues with the BlueDriver’s compatibility with specific car brands. For instance, Diego found the device “useless for Porsche or BMW” as it failed to detect basic error codes on his 2015 Macan and 2017 X6, which were detected by other tools. This suggests that potential buyers should verify compatibility with their car models before purchasing.
Incomplete Data and Missing Features: Ken A. notes that the BlueDriver provides “minimal sensor info” compared to cheaper alternatives. He experienced this limitation with his 2018 Volvo, where it did not display critical information such as transmission temperature and oil temperature. Users looking for comprehensive sensor data might find the BlueDriver lacking in this aspect.
The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
I bought 2 ODB scanners from 2 different manufactures at the same time. ANCEL obd2 scanner was returned for refund because it couldn’t detect and report the 4 DTCs which the BlueDriver could. I’ll keep the BlueDriver. My car are 2013 Toyota Sienna & 2003 Acura TL 3.2.
The hubs has had this for quite awhile not used many times yet from what he has said he isn’t disappointed, said he’d buy again!

No better than my $20 scanner
Was supposed to give me airbag data. Nope. Was supposed to read my hybrid battery data. Nope. My $20 OBD reader works just as well.

Keep itin the car
I keep one in every car. Much better interface than the $25 version from Walmart.

Not really any better than the cheap ones. And sometimes not as good
I got this because of all of the good ratings. I have several other scanners and this does nothing special. I needed it to read trans fluid temp and it does not. But my cheap elm scanner does. It also only works with it’s app. Not that great for the price.

Super Simple Setup & Great Help Video Menus
I watched a few videos in the IPHone app I downloaded how to setup & read diagnostics codes. About 7 minutes of videos. I went to my 2016 F150 and connected the Bluetooth & read the complete Codes in less than 5 minutes. Pro Tip – Watch the first few videos in the smartphone app!

The product arrives defective, it was complex to pair the phone’s Bluetooth, it constantly fails
The product arrives defective or damaged, it was super complex to pair the cell phone’s Bluetooth, it constantly fails, it is not as described in the guide that came with the product or the videos found on the internet, I thought it could possibly be because my car It was incompatible, but I tried with a friend’s car and the same thing happens, I also thought about updating the device’s software but when it downloads to 100% the update fails and is not applied, it is always available for download. The two previous scenarios confirm to me that it came damaged and does not work as it should.

Blue driver is awesome

Preliminary results are good
I downloaded the app on my android phone, plugged the device in, and ran a full scan. I cleared all the outstanding codes and will see which ones return. I used it to track various engine performance live while driving. I’m not sure how handy that will be be in the long term, but time will tell. So for now, I think this will be a winner.

I’m very happy
I will keep it short as possible. I’m a used car dealer and I use Blue to check cars out at the action. Sad to say but dealers are scum bags ( not all of us). some of the cars I checked out didn’t have a check engine light. When I plugged in blue, it showed every code that was pending and permanent. Saved me a lot of money. Even if you know nothing about cars you should have this. For buying a car or your engine light comes on this tool will give you a lot of information.

Great for “Newer” model vehicles
1997 Dodge Ram 3500 4×4 5.9L 12V & 2006 Nissan Murano AWD – BlueDriver had “very” limited functionality with my 97 – It read Mph, rpm, throttle position, air intake and engine temp? The app made me a bit hostile because “I have an Android Phone.” That makes getting it right a little more special. The only further readings (not code readings) I got from the 06 car was “Fuel Bank” sensors?… I don’t even know what that is?? BlueDriver support was truly Great! They’re there to help you. If I had newer vehicles, I would of kept it. Hope that helps somebody.

Works good
You can ‘t retrieve your codes Once you delete them

Great concept!
Worked for 1 day and then would not connect to vehicle. Sent back. Read the negative reviews before purchasing.
Kat –
Works
This little gadget worked exactly like they described. I bought it more as a backup/proof that what I was being told by a mechanic was the truth. So, I ran it before I took the vehicle in – spot on. Very easy to use.

Connection problems
Initially the item worked although there were intermittent problems getting the blue tooth connected. Recently tried to use it and it would not link. Message popped up that a firmware update was required. Surprisingly that seemed to work . After the firmware update it would not link again. Hard to tell if the item was bricked or not. When it originally worked it was good. At this point it appears useless. I have a budget foxwell that is wired. 100 % reliable.
Trudeman –
Versatile
For the money, the Blue Driver is the best diagnostic tool for when you get the dreaded “Check Engine Light” warning. It will give you the codes, tell you what to fix, and even clear the “Check…” codes from your dashboard panel. Every car has the plug where you put this small device. You can even leave it there.

TPMS Code issue
I don’t like because they cannot clear the TPMS(Tire pressure monitor system) code. It can scan but cannot clear the code.
KEVIN FLYNN –
Excellent tool
Love this checker , works great Test everything
J. Bell –
Works as expected
Took about 2 minutes to find the port for the module and another minute to install the app on my phone. Then I had to wait several minutes for it to scan “all codes”. But it found the ones I needed to address. Wish I had bought one of these years ago.

Works great
So nice to be able to understand issues before i head to a mechanic. Works great. Very happy with the purchase.
A big upgrade for my Frankford Arsenal trimmer at a comparatively reasonable price. –
Price was fair
Works good. Hooks to my cell phone and is a great help for reading codes on my vehicles.
Danny Lor –
Very useful
I have 3 vehicles and as a DIY person, this device helps find those fault codes easily, making it easy to trace the issue and repair.
Gale Ellis –
Disappointing Performance
While it connects easily to my phone, the app often crashes, making it frustrating to use. Additionally, it fails to provide accurate or detailed diagnostic codes.
David Gaspard –
They thought of everything
Every time I used the app, I discovered new features. Used it to track my progress through a exhaust issue.

A must have!
This reader is a must have for your toolbox and garage! I have tuning software that literally costs 12x’s this but doesn’t read close to half of what the BlueDriver does. Although you cannot change anything on your ECM like tuning software, you can pull every single code from engine, trans, ABS, TPMS, airbag and BCM (body control module) where tuning software mostly doesn’t. Not only can you pull any codes including hidden ones, but you can monitor EVERYTHING in real time as you drive just like very expensive tuning software. BlueDriver will give you every single detail about your vehicle including when and where your vehicle was built, how common your issue is and a direct link or video on how to fix your issue. This is really a must have!

Best Scanner
Why spend $10,000? This scanner does it all!
BLY_FACTOR –
Literally THEEEE best scan tool
Bar none this a top notch scan tool for the diyer, from live data, to saving reports, to seeing the suggested and frequently reported fixes, and a couple other neat features. It has yet to let me down. Just replaced my timing chain on my 14′ cruze myself that had codes for 20k miles that were permanent codes, did the job myself with a little help from a family member and the codes finally disappared after the job. You will SAVE money buying this tool. Its helped other family members out as well. PSA just be gentle with putting it into the OBD2 until the tools light comes on and you’re good. Open the app and voila. I usually always do a full system scan, it takes a few minutes but its worth it.
Pirowolf –
Simple and easy
This has been the best 100$ i spent in a long time. i have used this to diagnose my cars issues and attempt to fix it to find out there was more to the underlying problem. as well as helping my friend read his codes and reset his codes that needed to be cleared.

The one to get for DIY
I am not a mechanic. I don’t even like working on cars. But when my older car started to misfire, again, after a costly repair I decided to do a bit of research. With an ODB2 scanner and a bit of car forum searching I found my problem and fixed it the same day for no cost, saving me hundreds of dollars. Any ODB2 scanner will tell you your engine codes and report smog check readiness. So why spend nearly several times more than the cheapest ones? I wanted something with support behind it. I originally tried a Foxwell NT301. It worked well and it appears to have all the same features including a live view. But its user interface is clunky. Software upgrades require a computer. With the Bluedriver, there are no cords and upgrades are done right from your phone, without having to ever read a user manual. I can leave it plugged in on a roadtrip and watch live metrics from the backseat if I wanted. And it takes no space to store unlike a handheld scanner. I really like the raw data view in the Bluedriver. As an engineer this kind of view appeals to me. On the downsides, its a little pricey considering the functionality is the same as the Foxwell and perhaps even cheaper units. The bluetooth pairing was unexpectedly backwards, you have to make your phone discoverable and then the app can connect, versus showing up under Bluetooth settings like headphones. It’s app could use a little user interface design help, structured more around “jobs to be done” rather than just a bunch of separate functional areas (although perhaps this is what mechanics expect to see if other scanners are all organized this way).

¡Best!
This OBD II scanner worth every single penny paid. Five years and still working like a champ. Used on Prius 2006 and 2008, Honda Odyssey 1998, Honda Fit 2014, Toyota Corolla 2010 and Acura MDX 2017. My LAUNCH CRP129E Elite 2021 OBD2 is very good scanner but I prefer the Blue Driver as a first step and the Launch is my second option in case the BD fails…it is still waiting. Don’t think twice, buy it

Worthless Product
Bought this scanner to reset the TPMS system on my Promaster Van. It does not support the TPMS system. Dont buy this product if your plan is to reset the TPMS system on your Promaster van after tire rotation.

Easy plug and play. Reports are easy to read and understand. I have the app on my IPhone and do not have any issues using it.

Good
You can delete the check engine light but if you drive 3 blocks is gonna turn On again. About the information it reads is very clear.

Great scanner!

Displayed wrong Cylinder# on App for the fault code
Used in 2009 Honda Odyssey for reading fault code – P0354. It displayed wrong cylinder# for the fault code. It displayed Cylinder 2 have faulty ignition coil. I replaced the coil and spark plug for cylinder 2, but the fault still stay on. The engine keep knocking. Honda dealer identified Cylinder 4 have the fault, not cylinder 2. After replacing the coil in cylinder 4, the issue got resolved. Reached out to Bluedriver support. They acknowledged the app shown wrong cylinder#. Never going to trust this reader again. The dealer charged $350 to replace the coil which I could have done it under $100. Bluedriver should fix this issue. Never trust the cylinder# shown in the app.

Absolute Gem!
The media could not be loaded. Wish i bought this years ago. Absolute gem. You can literally warch the vitals of your car LIvE as you drive. The connection might drop after few days and you have restart the app but it’s not nit bad.

Works on all of my vehicles
Once you download the app it’s basically plug and play. You can switch between all of your vehicles easily and it logs everything. Great options and tons of information I did not know about the cars. If you own a couple older vehicles or looking to buy one then get one of these. The data it provides and logs is instant. Well worth it!!!

Failed within 3 months
I can’t recommend this tool. It worked great for a couple of months, but no longer communicates to the car now. LED lights on the unit still light (blue red flash) as they did before, and bluetooth to the phone is working, but it gives an error like it is not plugged in to the car (although it is). My other 10 yr old wired scanner still works for this vehicle (using same port), so nothing is wrong with the port. For $100 tool, I expect it to work for more than 3 months!
Bappento –
doesn’t connect to bluetooth and customer care was nonexistent
Couldn’t get it to pair with my phone. Tried 6 times and didn’t work. Call their customer care line 4 times and it just kept ringing. The product and their support teams sucks.

Blue driver diagnostic module
The blue driver diagnostic module that you insert under the dashboard allow you to get up to the minute diagnostic reading via your cell phone this thing’s incredible
flame66 –
Pretty awesome
This is an excellent bit of kit, really amazing and detailed. Super easy to set up and use and gives great results. Only criticism is the Bluetooth connectivity is fussy with my iPhone, it should connect automatically but you have to spend a few minutes trying to connect it which drops a star unfortunately. Once connected though it’s excellent

BEST investment for your vehicle!
I’ve had mine since 2021. I love the live readings; these really help me pinpoint issues when the codes have multiple solutions to fix. You can do live readings, CEL code readings, and other system module readings for OBDii vehicles. This device is so much cheaper and more reliable than any of the $$$ readers on the market, and even cheaper than diagnostic at a dealership. Makes it easy to do your own work, or for those learning/wanting to learn mechanics.
