Breaking Down the Blue driver obd scanner: Where Do Its Promises and Pitfalls Lie?
User-Friendly and Comprehensive: The BlueDriver Bluetooth Pro OBDII Scan Tool is celebrated for its user-friendly interface and extensive features. As Michael points out, it is “so user-friendly” that it suits both novices and experienced mechanics. Additionally, he appreciates the inclusion of videos, notes, and an “excellent support department” that further enhance the user experience.
Accurate Diagnostics: Many users, like James Weathers, praise the BlueDriver for its accurate diagnostic capabilities. James mentions that it “has been able to scan without issues” on various car models, including a Mazda, BMW, and Ford. This precision in detecting and reporting diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) makes it a reliable tool for car owners.
Cost-Effective and Time-Saving: Adam C. highlights the cost-effectiveness and convenience of the BlueDriver. He shares that it “paid for itself in less than a week” by enabling him to diagnose and repair his vehicle without a costly trip to the mechanic. This aspect is particularly beneficial for users looking to save money and avoid the hassle of visiting repair shops.
Limited Compatibility with Certain Car Models: Some users have reported issues with the BlueDriver’s compatibility with specific car brands. For instance, Diego found the device “useless for Porsche or BMW” as it failed to detect basic error codes on his 2015 Macan and 2017 X6, which were detected by other tools. This suggests that potential buyers should verify compatibility with their car models before purchasing.
Incomplete Data and Missing Features: Ken A. notes that the BlueDriver provides “minimal sensor info” compared to cheaper alternatives. He experienced this limitation with his 2018 Volvo, where it did not display critical information such as transmission temperature and oil temperature. Users looking for comprehensive sensor data might find the BlueDriver lacking in this aspect.
The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
I bought 2 ODB scanners from 2 different manufactures at the same time. ANCEL obd2 scanner was returned for refund because it couldn’t detect and report the 4 DTCs which the BlueDriver could. I’ll keep the BlueDriver. My car are 2013 Toyota Sienna & 2003 Acura TL 3.2.
The hubs has had this for quite awhile not used many times yet from what he has said he isn’t disappointed, said he’d buy again!

Device doesn’t connect with its app
The device works just fine if you set it up as though it was the first time, every time. The problem apparently is that it does not hook up with the app if your cell phone is challenging it for Bluetooth connectivity. So if I want to check for codes, I have to unplug it, plug it back in and go through the original setup procedure. Then you do or don’t get codes. My cars are not throwing off codes, but should I believe there is a problem, I would go through that procedure to see what codes I’m receiving. If I leave it plugged in, the red light just flashes. So there’s no use having it in the car unless I believe I need to search for codes.
Doug Cat –
Great device for the backyard mechanic.
Easy to hook up to your vehicle and the app is very user friendly. It tells you codes your vehicle is putting out and also provides a link to buy a replacement part and what the most common fix is for the problem.
Erik Howard –
Good scanner
So far I like it pretty helpful in diagnosing my car app is great. Able to fix a cooling/thermostat issue. Great price

I feel like it does more for the money because I am not paying for the digital screen.
Worked perfectly. I feel like it does more for the money because I am not paying for the digital screen.

So difficult to connect to. Here’s a reliable way to sync device to your car first try
I was about to return this device because of how frustrating it was to connect—it often took over five minutes or wouldn’t connect at all. After a lot of trial and error, I finally found a method that works on the first try, plug device into port, put key into ignition and turn to ON, open the app WITHOUT BLUETOOTH ON, now turn on bluetooth once you’ve opened the app, then return to the app and you should be connected. do in this exact sequence and u should be good

Very easy to use.?
I was convinced I wouldn’t like it after learning from reviews that is slower than the (MX+). This thing is amazing. Read more codes than my old Aurel, explained each code and possible fixes. For the parts it takes you to Amazon to get an idea of what the repair costs if you do the repair yourself. Saves a lot of time doing research on the codes and fixes. Very easy to pair and very intuitive navigation on your iPhone. No complaints so far but I only had it for couple of days.
James Kropelin –
Connection SUCKS
Works great when you finally connect to your phone.
CJ Salvi –
Cennection sometimes takes multiple tries. Reading and deleting codes is way too slow. Total PITA.
Took multiple tries to get it to connect to my phone. Light would go on when plugged in, start flashing when I tried to connect, then just turns off and does nothing. Unplug, replug, try again. Even when it does connect, it takes almost 5 minutes for it to read or even just delete codes. Several times I had the app keep going unresponsive on my phone while it was trying to read codes. Not sure if it’s the app or the device or both. Phone is a Galaxy S21, not a cheap phone by any means. I’m returning this for a refund. I’ll stick to my 15 year old old wired reader. It might not do live data, but at least it reads and deletes codes without a fuss. Once I have the codes, I can do my own homework on what they mean. I don’t need their “enhanced diagnostics”.
Stacey Waggoner –
Continues to disconnect from phone
Connectivity is horrible, just as my truck started throwing codes, it disconnected…not just once, but it’s happened 4 times in 1 day. I did the update for it and again, disconnected when truck started acting up, NO REPORTS were saved after it disconnected but. App seems very detailed and would probably provide great information if I could get it. Probably seems durable but that doesn’t help when it doesn’t work. Considering the amount of time and effort researching these, and it was ranked highest on 4 non-biased sites, I expected more.
deadz007 –
Pretty good OBD2 diagnostics tool, not perfect but it’s pretty good
I got this to help diagnose an issue that I’m having with my truck. With the app you have the ability to see every single code that’s popping up on your vehicle. I have a really pesky check engine that pops up on my truck that prevents it from starting. I wasn’t able to get the code cleared but I was able to clear it on my Jeep. Pretty good build quality, the features are nice in the app, you can get suggestions for fixes based on code and what item you need in order to fix the issue. Bluetooth connectivity to the phone is great, I was almost a hundred feet away from the vehicle in live mode and it didn’t seem to be an issue. Functions great, just make sure to keep the vehicle in accessory or started to keep connection with the device, vehicle and app.

Yes.
Yes, this works.. It quailed. my fears that my check engine light got it to the deed. 2 mechanic.

BlueDriver saves the day and money.
Wonderful device. Convenient and accurate to boot. Saved me hours taking my car to the dealer only to hear them spin a tail about the depth of the severity. Both codes were not Permanent codes and could be reset without causing more mechanical problems to the vehicle.

It’s essential for anyone who owns an older car that is off warranty
I purchased my Bluedriver in 2019 and it has been a great asset. It was essential back when I owned my 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP for 14 years, because it helped me figure out the issues I couldn’t figure out via visual inspection. It told me that my oil pressure sensor was bad. It told me which of my 4 hubs/bearings was bad. It helped me document and diagnose why my coolant (or was it oil?) temperature was climbing and just how hot it was getting (one of my radiator fans was not working due to a bad electrical connection (corrosion)–though the BlueDriver couldn’t tell me that part). On my 2023 car, I don’t need it as often since I am not having to do any repairs to it, but it’s such a fantastic tool that I continue to recommend a BlueDriver to anybody and everybody that owns a OBDII car, especially from the 2000s and newer. The BlueDriver being able to read ABS codes (unlike the really cheap tools similar to this) is a game changer and great selling point. If the BlueDriver was able to disable Active Fuel Management on GM cars (when they go from 8 cylinder mode to 4 cylinder mode), it would be an even better tool, but it isn’t capable of that (at least at the time I am writing this).

Very basic scan tool.
Fairly easy to use, but it doesn’t have an explanations for trouble codes or warnings found.

Stop working
It tried to update but it wouldn’t couldn’t get any help so I went to Auto Zone and got one from them

Does not do VW battery adaptation
The scanner has been helpful, but today I found out it doesn’t do battery adaptation for VW cars. I now have to buy or borrow a different tool to do that, so the blue driver is now a waste of money. 2 stars.
Jane Doh –
A 62 yr old woman can use it
This was so easy to setup and use! I know nothing about cars, but it gave me a code to help diagnose the reason my check engine light was on. Now I have an idea of what repairs might cost when I take it to the shop. Plus, I know that I can drive my car without doing any damage until I can get it into the shop.

Killed my battery
Had high hopes this would clear the flat tire light on my Infiniti Q50, but it ended up killing my battery instead. Absolute waste of time! The device kept getting stuck at the same percentage while reading codes—should’ve taken the hint. Returning it ASAP and wouldn’t recommend this to anyone!

Nice to have
Nice to have easy to us and gives a lot of options from the app you install. Told me what I needed to know to get going again.

Everyone should have this tool
If you own a vehicle you should have this tool. It is beyond simple, yet incredibly powerful. It will find issues, if there are any, and then link you to excellent information about the issue. It’s not so overly complex steps to follow that one cannot, but rather straightforward language that even a simpleton like me can understand. It can even direct you to the parts you may need on Amazon. As well as a host of other great resources. I’ve never felt so confident about doing auto repair as I do now that I have this tool. Just to be clear, I’m no good at mechanics and vehicles are my arch nemesis. I both fear and despise working on cars, however one must do what one must, but now I have kryptonite in my side in the form of this BlueDriver.

Happy with this OBDII Bluetooth Scanner – 2019 F250 SD
I bought this scanner to troubleshoot a “Check Engine” light on my 2019 F250 with 6.2ltr gasser. Received the module quickly, plugged it into my OBD port and easily paired with my iPhone 10 (yes, I have an older phone) after downloading and installing the app. As usual I did not read any instructions but the app was very intuitive and in a few minutes I was given the list of codes and what they meant. I could also drill down and the app would recommend what to do, parts to repair, and line to Amazon to the page with the parts. If you are a seasoned and comfortable with all things automotive, you may not need the recommendations or links but none the less it provides a wealth of information. I have not used it a lot but from what I have done with it, I find it a very useful tool and easy to use. It is a scanner only and does not provide any tools to tune or tweak….just to read the codes and clear them.

Didnt work
Didnt work on my car. I even tried 2 other cars to see if maybe it was an error but still didnt work. I ended up returning this.

Works very well
Bought this years ago. I toss it in the car whenever I go on road trips, just in case I need to figure out a problem. It works very well. Simple and easy to use. Yesterday, my car had a CEL on. Used this scanner tool and read the code. The app on my phone suggested a fix and even gave me an Amazon link to buy the required part. Its really nicely done.

Does not support all Toyota ABS codes
Went to BlueDriver’s Website and found out after the fact that it doesn’t in fact support all Toyota ABS codes. Specifically in my case, it does not support a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser ABS codes. The advertising on this page would make you believe otherwise.

Blue driver scan tool
It’s average at best. I thought there would be more features on it. My Innova is way better!
S. Jeffery –
Irritating red blinking light
Whenever BlueDriver looses connection with my phone via Bluetooth, an irritating red light commences to blink, and blink, and blink. The blinking red light means it is connected and communicating with your vehicle, but has lost the connection with your phone. Every time I start my vehicle the light starts blinking red and will not stop until I physically open the app and reconnect… again. I have to do that every time. And to make it even worse, that connection will only last for a few miles before it starts blinking red again, at which point I reach down and unplug it. And there’s no way in settings to shut this blinking red light off permanently… and no way to automatically reconnect with my phone when I’m near the vehicle. And speaking of settings, there is almost nothing in there to set. I will be returning.

Love it!
This OBDII scan tool is incredibly small compared to the scanning devices seen at AutoZone. I had no idea it would be this compact! I love how simple the design is. It works with iPhone and Android, so it is versatile. It is perfectly easy to store in a glove compartment for easy access when needed. I have not tested mine on my car just yet, but I am excited to let the testing begin this weekend.

Ehh..
Its alright I guess.. Would’ve been better if it had the feature to monitor the transmission temperatures.

Very Limited for Chrysler Products
I have had a BlueDriver tool for several years now. It will get codes and basic OBD info from a variety of vehicles. If you just need to know the code, this will do it. However, my experience has been that it won’t interface well with Chrysler/Dodge products. I have tried it on quite a few vehicles ranging from a 2000 Dodge 1500 pickup to a 2013 Dodge Dart and several others. The BlueDriver will get OBD driveability codes but will not interface with most of the ancillary modules, does not show manufacturer codes, will not show most of even the basic data, and does not show any freeze-frame data. You could buy a basic code reader from Auto Zone that works better. I did try contacting the company once – they told me to try updating my app, which I did with no change. Basically, if you deal with Chrysler/Dodge/Ram products then this may not be the tool for you.

Easy and Fast Use
Car had a check engine light on and couldn’t get it into the dealership right away so I was leery of driving it. Bought this and after a minute of setup I was reading the error code. With the error code I knew it was still safe to drive the car and that it was covered under warranty. Has a lot of useful feature like saving reports and looking up sensor information. Also can look up potential recalls and maintenance schedule. Definitely would recommend this to family and friends.

Doesn’t read dsg gearbox ecu on 2007 vw golf
Is just another basic hyped up code reader, I had my car checked with a friend’s reader which looked the same but it could check evey module in the car, also playing with the bluedriver on a Mercedes e550 2007 it will not clear a code even though it says it has.

Junk product for $129!
The device triggered my battery management systems. The app is full of useless information about recalls and bulletins that you can get them for free online. The app is bloated with useless information. My $10 BAFX scanner and OBD Fusion app can do the same thing with more efficient and better user interface. DO NOT BUY.
