Can’t easily remove the roller to get the hair off

I purchased this unit to replace a Shark model that is no longer available. I purchased it because of a highly rated review and am most disappointed. Part of the disappointment is on me as I didn’t really pay close attention to the write up. 1) It does not have a light. I hadn’t realized that I liked that feature as much as I do. 2) The electric cord is much shorter than my old one and I can’t reach as fair in the house without moving to another outlet. 3) Cleaning the roller (and this product touts that cleaning the roller is easy) is tedious. You cannot remove it to easily clean it like I could on the old one. 4) Cleaning the dust collection bin is a fiddle-faddle. You need patience and several wet paper towels to clean the interior. I am returning this unit and am ordering the NV752. More money, but it at least has the features I am looking for.

Not well balanced, tips over easily. GREAT suction!

This is a lightweight vacuum with a great amount of suction. When you push it’s easy, and when you pull back…woah. I can see why it’s called a shark as it wants to keep your arm! lol. Folks should know however that this vacuum does not sit upright very well. It is prone to tipping at the slightest touch. Twice now it has taken out my side table and my coffee has gone flying. Maybe the manufactures were anticipating that the canister would get heavy enough with dirt to counterbalance it? I don’t know. I bought it because it was so lightweight and have been recovering from an illness that weakened me quite a bit. If you want lightweight, this is a great vacuum. Just watch yourself around it or it will tip. And secure your coffee!

    For me it sucks…

This is the only Wirecutter item that I have intensely disliked. On the upside, it does have strong sucking power. On the downside, it’s awkward to use. You have to hold onto the cord so you don’t wind up getting tangled up in it. The head sometimes gets stuck upwards and you have to keep pushing it down. It’s awkward to use the tools to vacuum under things. It’s heavy if you need to lift it to vacuum anything high. The carpet setting pulled the loops of my rug apart. Unless you really love this style of vacuum I’d stay away from this one. I can’t wait to get rid of it.

    Good price & product.

Somebody asked me about this product, and Amazon assures me that I bought almost ten years ago! I don’t use it heavily, or even necessarily as often as weekly. But it’s the only vacuum cleaner I’ve owned for these ten years, and has never given me any problem at all. I’ve really appreciated the flexibility of being able to separate the canister from the upright mechanism for jobs like stairs, and dispensing with the collection bags was nice. Once I got used to the process I’ve found cleaning & drying the built-in filters quite easy. It came with a couple tools (brushes and hose extender), and I did pick up a cheap generic wand extension set that has worked out fine. And the kind of amazing thing is that it right now I’m seeing a price of $169.99, which is only eleven bucks more than the $159.00 I paid in August, 2014!

    Before & After Photos Attached

As far as I can tell, this vacuum is WAY better than our last one. We had a Tineco cordless vacuum (A dyson dupe) and it did the job for a lot of spot cleaning but had a really hard time getting our whole apartment. The cord is annoying but the vacuums with cords are just better. I would recommend this vacuum to people. I have two very sheddy cats!

    Hose is way too short!

I like Shark products in general but this vacuum is kinda ridiculous. The hose literally reaches about a foot from the base and there is only about an 8” attachment included. So whenever I am trying to use the hose, the entire vacuum falls on my head. Would never buy this model again.

    Easy to Use

This vacuum has great suction. I did my whole house right after it arrived and picked up two cannisters full of hair and dirt. Easy to use on the stairway, I’m a little clumsy using it but with practice will get better. The only drawback is the onboard tool holder. The tools keep getting in the way and fall off quite a bit. Not a deal breaker but will find a place to keep tools so I can find them when needed. Overall a great buy.

Too heavy to carry or move

I was very disappointed that the Shark NV352 Navigator turned out to be so heavy for me that it was hard to carry it or even move it. It may be ok for someone who can carry the 12 something lbs., that give the impression of being more than that when the vacuum is operating.

Good vacuum but handle broke after light use

Hi, Purchased the vacuum on Nov 25, 2023 I was eager to try out this Shark vacuum given its convenient detachable design for cleaning stairs and furniture. At first, I was impressed with its strong suction power on both carpets and hard floors. Unfortunately, after only light use, a design flaw emerged – the locking mechanism that clicks the handle into place when reattaching it stopped working properly. Now when I push and pull the vacuum, the handle keeps disconnecting, making it extremely difficult and frustrating to use. I contacted Shark’s customer support and they were responsive and friendly but informed me the handle replacement would cost $29 plus $13 shipping, totaling $42 since it was not covered under warranty. As this is my first Shark vacuum, I’m disappointed to already be facing a relatively expensive repair on what should be a durable component. I still like this vacuum overall and understand sometimes issues occur unexpectedly. That is why I did not rate it lower than 4 stars. However, if something else breaks after an unreasonably short period of time or usage, I will update my review.

a step down from my previous Shark

I purchased this to replace a 9 year old Shark Rotator & it was definitely a step down. While the suction power is very good, I don’t like much else about it. It’s smaller & seems less sturdy than my previous Shark. I don’t see it lasting 9 years or even half that. And the cord is not as long as the previous vacuum either. About 12-15 feet shorter & I’ve had to attach an extension cord. The hair wrapping around the brush roll is terrible! I have dogs so I expect to have to remove hair from the brush roll from time to time. I vacuum 1-2 times a week & this was something I had to do monthly before but with this new vacuum it’s at least weekly. There is a part that holds the extra tools for the vacuum but it either gets in the way or the tools fall off so it’s useless. The 2 buttons to disengage the hose from the main unit to use the tools are very “fiddley” & I have to struggle with them to get them to work. The lift away button is only slightly easier. The canister has to emptied twice as often as my old vacuum because it’s tiny. If you have pets you’ll likely be emptying after each room. And you have to stick your hand in the canister to dislodge all the hair. This is a disappointment after my first Shark. My next vacuum will definitely be a different brand if this is what Sharks quality has become.

    Not worth it

This vacuum is such a disappointment. The suction is weak, I find myself going over the same spot multiple times and it’s still unable to fully vacuum all of the hair on the floor. I try different settings and no luck. The dust bin is small, frequently needs to be emptied. I have two dogs and vacuum twice a week and have to stop multiple times while cleaning to empty the bin. Also the electrical cord is rather short meaning you need to stop and plug it into new outlets every time you go to a new room. It’s lightweight, that’s the only upside I’ve noticed so far.

    Good Vacuum, but…

This is a good vacuum cleaner, but it’s about $25 overpriced. Some people complain about the cord. I can live with the cord…at least it’s long enough no extension cord is needed. But that length can be a problem in that it’s hard to manage and you can trip over it if you aren’t paying attention. It can be a PITA. The other thing is the power switch. It should be located nearer the top of the handle. As it is, you have to bend down to turn on the unit. Plus it’s a 3-position rocker switch and you have to learn what position does what. But it’s the switch’s location that needs improvement. Overall, though, it’s a good piece of housecleaning equipment. Easy to move around, easy to empty the dust container, but you’ll still spill some if you aren’t careful. Would I buy it again? Yeah, sure. You get your money’s worth. Why spend hundreds on a fancier one when you can get this one? You could buy four or five of these for what you’d spend on one of those fancy-dancy vacuums.

Okay for what I paid but not great

I paid 105 for this. If I had paid full price, I would return it. Unit is okay but not great. Suction on bare floors is not great. The head is a lot smaller than what we are used to, so that means more passess back and forth. Attachment tools tend to fall off when using the vac and does not include a brush attachment. Note that due to the design, this will not slip under chairs and furniture as the front of the unit is too high and gets in the way. It does show that it is picking up dirt, so for 100 bucks it will due for basement carpeted area

Good, a few changes would make it better

I live in a multi level house and was tired of lugging my existing (heavy) Dyson up and down the stairs all the time. I saw this model on sale for $99 and thought it would be a nice second vacuum to buy and keep a vacuum on each floor. Pros: slender and lightweight, easy to empty the canister & access filters, nice suction action on carpet and bare wood settings, comes with 2 accessories for cleaning furniture and hard to access areas. You can vacuum stairs without having to carry the entire vacuum with you. Cons: being a slender and lighter vacuum it tips over constantly while using the accessories on furniture etc. A slightly longer hose, or one that is less rigid would probably help. As it is I have to use one hand to keep the vacuum upright while using the other to vacuum cushions or whatever. Definitely awkward. The accessories don’t lock into place while using or being stored and occasionally fall off during use. The power cord is too short. I can’t vacuum an average sized room without changing outlets. My Dyson cord is about 10’ longer by comparison and I can vacuum an entire room from one outlet. For the price I paid it’s a decent vacuum for my needs and I’ll keep it. I do feel a few small design changes would have taken this vacuum from ‘Good’ to ‘Great’ though.

    Flawed Design

After light use for several months, the vacuum lost suction, despite relatively clean filters. The tube closest to the head of the vacuum (photo) was clogged. There were no large objects, simply dust, etc (photo). This model has a serious issue with successfully suctioning all debris out of the tubes, leading to gradual clogging over time.
