Lydia J. Walk found the Roomba to be a necessity with “2 big dogs, 2 kids and a cat”, emphasizing its effectiveness in maintaining cleanliness despite having pets and children.

Another user, MSF, expresses mixed feelings, stating that the Roomba is “Okay… when it works”. They detail issues with persistent network disconnections, trouble charging, and the vacuum speaking only in German, making its operational reliability questionable.

A time saver. Does a great job.
I read the reviews and decided to still get the product. Just like the other reviews said this product was noisy which i didn’t mind. It also was a problem connecting to the wifi. I called tech support and got it done. But the 1 problem i had that wasn’t expecting was with the charging. I set it to vacuum every other day but it died after 1 hour of cleaning although it was docked for almost 48 hours. I will pay attention to the charging and return it if that happens again.

Will go long distances to avoid getting a spot clean
The actual vacuum is great but man it drives me nuts. It’s low enough to go under couches and chairs and get stuck. It gets itself trapped in corners then finally figures out which way to go on the wall and then goes right back to the corner. I think I’m doing more work moving obstacles than I do actually just vacuuming myself

Just get the smart mapping its Worth it
I recently purchased this product with high expectations, but unfortunately, it has not met my needs due to the lack of smart mapping. Without this feature, the device spends an excessive amount of time in one room (up to two hours) while only dedicating a few minutes to others. Additionally, it misses many areas, repeatedly cleaning the same few spots while neglecting significant portions of the room. While the product does clean, its inefficiency and inability to cover the entire space thoroughly are disappointing. I strongly recommend opting for a model with smart mapping functionality for a more effective and balanced cleaning experience.

Exactly What I Needed
The capacity is a little small but does the job in between vacuum days. Does a decent job and seems to be sturdy enough. Easy to clean too. I really do like it and recommend.
J. Coley –
Not a good choice unless you live in a studio apartment
Difficulty getting out of bedrooms, gets stuck behind furniture, gets lost and cannot return to base. Cleans good when it is running.
BoB L. –
Simple but working very smooth
Its a simple model without water tank or mopping function. But it works very well considering the price. I really recommend this model. It also seems quite reliable .

Bad customer service
We had connectivity issues. The robot would not connect to our Wi-Fi. Therefore it would not talk to my app and I guess with this vacuum if you’re not connected to Wi-Fi, it will not suck all the dirt out of the robot into the holding tank, which is kind of crazy so we had to keep emptying the dirt out and I called iRobot about five times. Talked to a bunch of different people they kept saying a specialist would call me in troubleshoot with me. It never happened so I returned it and bought a shark.

2025 vacuum with 2001 technology
I was upgrading about a 7 year old roomba with a newer version that mapped and self emptied. Apparently it “maps” but you can’t label rooms and it doesn’t remember your layout, so everyone it vacuums, it gets stuck, misses areas, and when it doesn’t run out of battery before finishing, it can’t find its home base. The 7 year old version had no problems with these basics. Seems like Roomba worked hard to dumb down a vacuum to charge more for one that works. Think I need to convert to a Shark?
Christine Annette Faber –
It seem …..not right

Don’t do it…
Dumbest Roomba on the planet. Can’t figure out how to negotiate furniture. Literally cleans the same line of my living room over and over till the battery needs to be charged. I’ve moved it to different locations hoping for the best. Huge waste of money and time spent trying to get it to work as advertised. Don’t make the same mistake I did thinking it’ll be a good investment. I have the $900 version from 5 years ago, still runs strong and does very well negotiating the house. You get what you pay for, and this one isn’t worth $100 to me.
Eric Davidson –
The lowest of them all
This iRobot must be the cheapest build of them all. It was fully charged but only ran for 60minutes. Cannot take itself home whether on demand or finished cleaning. Maybe it’s made for an apartment? I’ve had one with select but got tired of paying the $30 a month for it to work. I paid it for almost four years and found out it was the only way it works is through the membership. If you need an extremely basic irobot to clean the restroom only this is it.
T. muller-thym –
just moves dirt arouund
We had another iRobot that worked well, so we thought we would try this cheaper version. Unfortunately, this vacuum didn’t live up to expectations. Instead of picking up dirt, it just moved it around on our floors, making the cleaning process more frustrating. Additionally, it struggled to find its base and empty itself, only doing so about half of the time. Given the performance issues, I would not recommend this cheaper version. I would gladly pay the extra for the more reliable iRobot that actually gets the job done.

Very disappointed
We had a roomba years ago and it ran/vacuumed/mapped room great but quality has taken a huge hit apparently. This roomba does not clean the entire room, skips half of the room. It tends to leave swirls of dust from the brush, doesn’t clean edges well, and often leaves debris behind.
matt –
Not impressed
I’ve owned a previous version of an iRobot vacuum, and this version is not an upgrade nor does it seem to be “more” automated. It constantly needs supervision (error no 2 – cannot make a full lap around the living room without the brushes needing to be cleaned), does not do a very good job of picking up small debris, or maneuvering around a large space without getting stuck on something. Forgot using the app while not at home; it will error out or get stuck within 5 minutes. At this point I would rather vacuum up myself lol. It’s weaponized incompetence at this point. Do not recommend.
Monia Lisa –
Will never buy a roomba product again
The generic brand vacuum I have that I bought prior to this one, cheapest one in Amazon I could find was significantly better in actually doing its job. This one ends a job before even completing it the cleaning ability is weak, it only has one spinner brush and the generic brand has two and what I believe to be more power.
DeLongWayHome –
Makes a Beep and Doesn’t Move
Purchased two of the Roomba Essentials. One works perfectly, the other one doesn’t work at all. It lights up and makes a noise as if it wants to clean, but won’t come on. Unfortunately I bought it as a gift and didn’t realize it was defective until the return date had expired. Disappointed in this experience with the Roomba as it’s the 5th one I’ve bought for myself and extended family. Normally, I do recommend the iRobot products.

Problemas con el Robot
Tengo un grave problema con el Robot… Cuando la conecto y la monto en la base,, hace 2 sonidos y se baja de la base 5 cms, y no empieza a funcionar. Que debo hacer al respecto?

A good vac for floors
Bought this vacuum after the first one we bought didn’t work This one works well on our hardwood floors and tile floors but doesn’t do much when it moves onto the one area rug we have.
Monica –
Not a quality product!
I have this product for a year now. It was doing an okay job cleaning the wooden floors in my house. I used to clean it regularly to maintain it. But sadly both the wheels failed last week and it is non-functional now. The wheels are costly to replace. So, I think it is not worth for the price I paid for it.
Dot L –
Never finds its way home to dock!
I have a Chihuahua, which sheds a lot of hair. I bought this in addition to regular vacuuming. To pick up dog care you have to run it on max volume always it never makes it back to home. I have closed off all bedrooms, so it only has to do the main part of the house. You can send it home using the Phone app, but it still will never reach home. It’s not that the batteries running out. It just doesn’t know how to figure it out. I’ve moved my docking station a few times. It’s in the most clear space but yet it does not recognize its home. I would never use this if I’m not home as no matter what it always finds something to get caught up on. It does do a decent job helping to maintain a clean house, but it’s not without work itself.
Beverly C. –
Horrible
Didn’t work. Returned it.
cameron –
Just moves dirt around
We’ve had this for a month and it still hasn’t come close to filling a bag. All it does is move dirt and dog hair around. I’m returning mine.
Chris F. –
Gets stuck every time
The suction was good…that’s the only positive. Right out of the box it had a empty bag message even though it was installed correctly. That’s a minor inconvenience that you can Jerry rig… The main issue was it ran into every little thing it could and got stuck constantly. We tried multiple days to take these out of the way and it would still get stuck. I don’t believe this model has any object avoidance features or mapping with no-go zones that could mitigate this. Look for other brands with those options.
Karie –
Doesn’t Self-Empty or Charge
Defective right out of the box. Doesn’t self empty, struggles to make its way back to the charging dock. Battery dies quickly and charging takes a very long time. Uses disposable bags as a filter that are costly and will add up (if it emptied), especially if you have pets.
Tyler –
Broom is better
Just goes around the edge of the room never vacuums the center and any type of hair gets tangled into the rollers and never goes back to the charging dock just stops and says it’s stuck just garbage
Paul Adelfio –
All over the place
It’s a nice vacuum, but can get stuck sometimes. Definitely nice to have for daily cleaning. You have to empty the bin every day though. Easy app for programming
Yan Z. –
Extremely user unfriendly
First of, if you have a lot of obstacles (ie furniture) in the room and don’t want to work your ass off to move them to open space for the vacuum, don’t buy it. With all the obstacles in the room, the vacuum efficiency is highly doubtful. 10 minutes after it started, it covers only about 10 square feet the most. Secondly, the APP is like the dumbest APP ever. Any human interference using the APP once the vacuum starts to work is impossible. One will need to first pause the vacuum with the APP l, then press the power button on the vacuumto reset. OMG, How hard it is to simply add a cancel button!?
L C Flibbjab –
Overpriced Nonsense
For what this does, it’s way overpriced. If you have a house devoid of furniture, it’s perfect. It gets stuck all the time, the brush comes off nearly every day (which makes a fun game when you get home of trying to find it) the little brush will actually fling dirt away from it and then leaves it behind, you can’t make certain parts of the house off limits. I would say every 5 cleans, it will get stuck and I need to help it back to the charging dock. I could go on with the small idiosyncratic stuff. The app is also very limiting. The map feature hardly works. I’m sure the Lidar version is incredible if you have that kind of money to burn.
Cherie Hammond –
was not a name brand – terrible!
Did not do the self empty. one day it just stopped running altogether and now won’t even recharge. JUNK!
Stas Zlatkin –
Great but ruined my carpet
Workers Great for open areas but keeps getting stuck under my couch and ruining the carpet when it can’t get out.
B Kirkpatrick –
Disappointed
I got this to replace a smaller, non-emptying version. I have several pets and needed something to help keep up. I am so disappointed! 1. It is fairly loud. 2. The app is a joke, basically you can schedule a time and vacuum everything (which I use “everything” loosely). There is no mapping feature that lets you select specific rooms, there is no rhyme or reason to the vacuum process/pattern. My other model would do around perimeter and then a patterned sweep in designated area then move to next room. This version just goes everywhere, repeatedly go over same spots/miss gaps entirely, and sometimes won’t even vacuum an area (bathroom). 3. The “emptying” feature is laughable, I still had to manually empty the bin, which didn’t even fill completely before docking (still hadn’t gone to all open rooms). I don’t know if it needs to empty more often so that feature works or what; but basically useless. 4. Battery life is a joke. I don’t know if it’s because it’s not efficiently following a set pattern or what; but it does before doing less than 1000 sq ft. I had such high hopes and was so excited. Now I’m just out money, and am not only still having to empty it; but I’m actually having to haul it to and closing g it in if I want it to vacuum certain rooms.

Regret Buying
I had a Shark before and it was just worn out, so I replaced it with this. Let’s just say I should have stuck with a Shark. I’ll bet out of all the times I’ve run this thing, it completes a job about 10% of the time. It hardly ever finishes due to some error or just simply the battery running out before it gets home. I never write reviews, but I had to on this product. I’ve had it for 10 months.

Where’s the Juice?
I bought this product in October shortly before my accident. With help I unboxed the Roomba & we plugged it in. Everything seemed alright and working. (Keep in mind) we used it once and that was it. Since I had broken my wrist and had extensive surgery on it. Today was the first day I tried to use it. The Roomba was dead as a doornail! None of the outlets worked. I know it’s too late to send back. Will try to take it to a repair center. Disappointed!
Rodney Cherry –
I give it a 5 out of 10
Dose not work well with uneven floors and if your home is crowded with items it very hard for the item to operate.

Trash
This thing is trash. It only goes back and forth in one area of my house. Won’t venture anywhere else even though I have an open floor plan. It doesn’t learn over time. And it doesn’t pick up everything. Very upset I can’t return it.
Vaneered –
unresponsive out of the box. terrible customer service. I want to make it a ZERO STAR rating
the machine was completly dead and never worked. Customer service from irobot told me they would send a new unit. They ended up sending a battery. I replaced the battery and it was the same problem. Dead. The issue is not resolved and they have not responded to my request for a new functioning machine. Zero stars so far. Hope they make this right.

I have COPD so it’s making things harder to do such as cleaning but with the ROOMBA my house is still getting clean, not 100% but able for me to clean where it can not reach.Give it a 100% grade

Cheep limited functionality
The Robot Roomba Vacuum 2 Essential Robot does not work with the with the IRobot virtual Wall modules, so the vacuum gets stuck on everything. Nothing in the literature about that issue. I had to research that. The rotating brush which only snaps on in this model, not screwed on on all the others fell off after 2 weeks. It cannot sense obstacles and always get caught up on electric cords. It is quieter than our old Roomba that’s why I gave it 2 stars. It has a 60 day trial, we returned it to Amazon before that deadline, and as usual 3 weeks later we are still waiting for our refund. This is junk do not waste your money.

Gets Stuck in Everything, Misses Areas Constantly
I got this product because I have all concrete floors and thought the Roomba could easily clean up for me instead of sweeping. Unfortunately, this product constantly misses areas 1) because it can’t be programmed for certain areas and 2) it only goes in one direction. If I want it to hit different areas I have to pick it up and move it and restart it. Isn’t the point that it will clean a room by itself? In addition, if there is any sort of wire or something to get snagged on, it will. I guess it’s not smart enough to be able to move away from common objects. Similarly, it will “get stuck” on short lips where it will constantly turn in circles until someone comes and moves it. Lastly, there are so many small spots and corners that this product will miss even if it does clean that area. I’ve decided that it’s more of a pain to monitor this device and move it around the house, then afterward have to sweep anyway because it misses so many spots. I understand that this device is advertised as not programmable, but it’s so horrible at cleaning a room without human intervention anyways.
Didn’t send the correct filter. Acadia not Acura –
Worst Roomba ever!!
The machine only has one flipper to grab debris with and it slings it too far for the vacuum to suck it up! It also said for pet hair. It rolls the pet hair and it sticks to the brush not allowing anything to go into bin! Horrible, horrible, horrible!!
Dennis J. Cole –
Disappointing
Being an iRobot Roomba, I guess I expected much more that what we got. It does a decent job of vacuuming, but misses a lot of places. Without any kind of mapping, it just wanders around and ends up going over the same place over and over. I have to physically pick it up and move it often. We are very disappointed. My suggestion is to do a lot of research before buying a robot vacuum because I would not buy this one had I known about it ahead of time.

Not iRobot quality – Not worth the money
I own 4 different Rombas and this one by far is the worst one ever. I love my 694, it’s a nice little workhorse which gets the job done and is a good overall product. Then I have a J9+ which is AWESOME, it sucks up a lot of dirt from carpets and gets pet hair out really well. I also own an I3 which, until I bought this Essentials vac, I thought was the laziest machine ever. It doesn’t transition well between carpet and bare floor and does a subpar job of lifting pet hair. It’s hit or miss with that one too, sometimes it picks up a lot and then sometimes it picks up very little. When I bought this Essentials Vac I was hoping to replace this I3 with something better for my unfinished basement. I ended up returning it and going for a J7+ instead. This Essentials vac is dumb as a doornail, it missed a very obvious pile of cat litter while running over another pile and not sucking it up. The battery ran out in a matter of 50 minutes and took 3 hours to charge back up. I then tried it in another area where it proceeded to take about 45 minutes to vacuum an 8×8 space and lifted no pet hair at all; only a couple of twigs and some cat litter. After a week of fighting with this piece of black plastic garbage I gave up and returned it. Then used my I3 again and was stunned at how much hair and garbage it picked it up. Obviously, this machine wasn’t doing its job if my ‘bad’ Roomba did a better one!
AMANDA KLONTZ –
Barely cleans, always lost
As much as I was wanting to love this, it’s always lost, wandering around the room, and barely vacuums. The first one I ordered came clearly used (dirt on and in it, scratched up, with a couple dents). The second one was new…. But it seems to always get stuck even in a very basic square shaped room with no tight spaces. It will randomly also just start going in different directions.
Amazon Customer –
Easy to use
Bought this for my mom to use in her house as they age. She has all wood floors and dogs so I was worried about this picking up enough. She loves it and says it saves her so much time cleaning. It gets all the dirt and dog hair up and roams her house pretty freely. The dogs haven’t been able to damage it either. Definitely worth the cost in time saved alone.

Worked for 6 months and stopped charging
Great product for 6 months now it won’t charge. Followed all instructions for care but still won’t charge. We previously had one for 4 years that worked great and charged. Looks like they aren’t made as well anymore.
Nancy –
Battery Life is Awful
This vacuum does a “decent” job….if you have a small, square room it might get the job done. The battery life sucks, it only vacuums for maybe 20 minutes, then takes FOREVER to charge. So if you have a larger area (by the way it never gets to ALL the areas), it will do a fraction of it, then go charge for numerous hours, like 5-6 hours….then start up again but still only get a fraction of the area it’s supposed to get. It might work for a small apartment or studio, but it’s a waste of money to use this one for a house.
Danny –
Ehh
Pretty useless honestly. it just goes over the same spots doesn’t clean everywhere it needs to. sweeping the whole house myself is so much easier and quicker. Not really worth the buy.
John F. –
Fascinating to watch. Frustrating to clean up after.
Somewhat disappointed in that it doesn’t pickup everything. We still had to go around with a broom. Some of the lighter weight items got blown out of the way before being vacuumed up.
Amazon Customer –
Underwhelming Performance
Did a poor job of picking things up, would randomly leave the base and start working when it was not scheduled to do so. Had a hard time returning home when it was told to do so. Got stuck easily. Would return home before the job was completed and completely missed certain areas.
Maxine Schvaneveldt –
Didn’t do the things that said it was supposed to do
I don’t know if it was just this particular one, but it did not do the things that said it was supposed to do. And the customer service was not good.
