A Closer Look: Advantages and Disadvantages of the Product
The Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter has received mixed reviews from customers, with some praising its functionality and convenience, while others have encountered issues and limitations.
One of the major advantages of this adapter is its ability to provide a wireless connection for Android Auto, eliminating the need for a physical USB cable. Users appreciate the seamless integration with their car’s infotainment system, allowing them to easily access their phone’s features and apps on the car screen. The wireless connection also enables fast charging with a PD car charger, eliminating the slow trickle charge experienced with a USB data cord.
Many users have found the setup process to be quick and straightforward, with the adapter connecting automatically and reliably to their phones. It is particularly praised by those with wired Android Auto setups, such as Honda owners, who appreciate the convenience and ease of use provided by the wireless functionality.
The compact size of the adapter is also appreciated, as it does not take up much space and can be easily installed in the car.
Positive reviews highlight the improved quality of life and the elimination of cord-related frustrations. Users enjoy the convenience of having their phone’s content readily available on their car screen without the hassle of connecting and disconnecting a USB cable.
However, there are some drawbacks and limitations to consider. Some users have experienced issues with the adapter draining their phone’s battery quickly, which defeats the purpose of a wireless connection as they end up needing to charge their phone via the car’s USB port.
There are also reports of the adapter having a short lifespan, with some users experiencing failures and malfunctions after only a few months of use. This raises concerns about the durability and reliability of the product.
Connectivity issues have been reported by some users, including difficulties in pairing and occasional disconnections during longer drives. This can be frustrating and disrupt the seamless wireless experience that the adapter is intended to provide.
Some users have also expressed dissatisfaction with the customer service provided by Motorola, citing difficulties in getting assistance or a replacement for a faulty adapter.
Overall, while the Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter offers the convenience of wireless Android Auto connectivity, it comes with potential drawbacks such as battery drainage, limited lifespan, and occasional connectivity issues. Users should weigh the advantages and disadvantages before making a purchase decision.
What do the stars speak of?
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
It works great when it is working. I travel 33 miles to work and without fail I lose connection at the same spot on my drive every day going both ways. It takes a minute to reconnect then is good for the remainder of my drive.
doesnt turn off by default, killed my battery.

Disappointed
This is a wireless dongle that requires you to connect physically each phone to the AA set first. This was a no go for my phone since my phone port is dead. Billed a completely wireless yet it is not. Iam returning it.

Great device…. When it works
Using this in my 2023 Hyundai Elantra and a Google Pixel 7 Pro. The device connects quickly when I get in my vehicle, but the connection is completely unreliable. In a 30-minute drive, it generally disconnects at least 2-3 times. I have given it a shot several times for several days at a time, but the only thing I can rely on is for it to be unreliable. I have officially given up on it.

This thing really work! Gives you Wireless Android Auto
This thing really works as advertised. Plug it in the USB port and forget it. Every time you get in the car your Android Auto will quickly come online. Easy set up. (I have a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid, I can’t vouch for every car)

Improves Android Auto experience
I wanted to upgrade from “wired” Andoid Auto to “wireless” with this Motorola unit. After researching ways to accomplish this task, I found this unit and ordered it to see if it would be worth it. I was frustrated with plugging my phone into my new head unit for my truck. It would disconnect with every bump in the road. Since upgrading to the Motorola adaptor, my phone connects every time and I get no dropouts. The Android Auto works like it should. I am no longer frustrated. I would recommend the Motorola if you have a head unit that is wired only. It will improve your experience for certain.

Still works great 6 months later
Only issue I have had is that Android Auto takes a couple of seconds to load. So, no real issues. Great product

exactly after a year and a half it didn’t work anymore
It works very well, only at times it disconnects but I considered it normal until exactly a year and a half later it disconnected and it didn’t work anymore 👎🏽. Looking for other brand

This item work great with my 2019 Acura RDX. No issues. You may have to unplug get to get it to start with another phone once in a blue.

It works flawlessly
Was having the usual Android Auto failure to connect and frequent disconnecting problems on a Google phone with a wired connection on a 2023 vehicle. After trying at least 7 different cables including newly purchased Google and Amazon cables, I decided to try the wireless option from Motorola which was on sale. I was able to get it up and running on the first try and have had a stable connection ever since. I highly recommend this adapter if you have wireless charging in your car or are just having regular old Google phone and Android Auto connection issues. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Works with Ford Sync 3 (Shelby GT350), but hardly flawless
Most of the time the device works fine, but there’s, at a minimum, one day a week where the device disconnects from the phone, causes music streaming to cut out or halt to load, and causes calls to degrade badly. Still, it works far more often than it doesn’t. I’m content with it.

Works perfectly in the 2 cars I’ve tried it in
Highly recommend – Tested in 2022 Maverick and 23 Sentra. Works as good as you’d hope. No issues with connecting. Start the car up and 15 seconds later Android auto is up and working. No lag or issues with either one.

Laggy and impossible to reset
The latency on this device was pretty bad. After 8 months it refuse to connect with my phone and I can’t seem to reset it.

Works great on 2021 & 2022 Harley Street glide specials
Easy set up and connections. No more Harley crappy navigation, uses Google maps, listen to tunes on YouTube music or any other source. I have the NHL app on my phone so I’m able to listen to hockey games as well. Access your apps that are on your phone thru your in dash screen. Very stable as long as there is phone signal. Stays connected on my dash and bounces around so good quality product. Recommend to all newer Harley riders. Much cheaper than replacing entire audio head unit.

This thing is great!
Perfect! It connected quickly and the sound quality is perfect! No more cords for me!

Works great
I’m impressed, setup was seamless. Only con is, unless you unplug the device your Bluetooth is always connected. Even if you shutoff Bluetooth it automatically reconnects. Other than that, it’s great and doesn’t disconnect with every little bump in the road like my wired connection does.

Works Great, But
I have been using Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter for about a week and it has been working great. When I get into my car, Android Auto connects within 30 seconds. I have a Mazda CX-5 and my USB ports are in the center console between the seats, and that’s where I placed the MA1 device out of site. My only problem I had was making the connection the first time I installed it. I followed the instructions and no matter what I did I could not make a connection. I finally got it to work by adjusting a bunch of settings in my car, Android Auto app, and my phone. Completely disconnected my phone from the car, and reconnecting the phone and the MA1 at the same time and it finally connected. Plan on spending sometime installing it.

Works pretty well with Ford SYNC 3 in a 2017 Explorer, sometimes drops connection
My 2017 Ford Explorer is equipped with SYNC 3 and supports Android Auto, but only through a wired connection. I use a phone mount that features wireless charging so I wanted to free myself of the charging cable–my other newer car has wireless Android Auto so using a wired connection makes me feel like I’m in the stone age. Set up was pretty easy, just make sure you attempt to pair with the correct bluetooth device when you perform setup. Once setup is complete, it works just like wired Android Auto. I have noticed that the connection drops on occasion when I’m sitting in heavy (i.e. bumper to bumper) traffic. But it will automatically reconnect on its own after a minute or so. I suppose this happens because so many other vehicles around me are running bluetooth connections, but I can’t confirm that. It just never seems to happen when traffic is light and there aren’t many other cars around me. Overall worth the purchase.

Most reliable Android Auto wireless adapter
Be forewarned as I see this question a lot, your car MUST ALREADY HAVE ANDROID AUTO built in. When you plug your phone into your car USB, if AA comes up, you’re good. This will not add AA to a car that doesn’t have it. That said, I have used 3 of these. My car first and then helped two other people who liked how it worked. It’s simple, no need to add anything or download any unnecessary apps on your phone, Motorola makes the wireless receivers built into most OEM car decks. Just plug your phone into your USB in your car first, then disconnect the cable and connect the wireless adapter. Look for it on your phone via Bluetooth then let it create the wireless bridge from your phone to the adapter. It will then transfer the connection over to an Android Auto wireless connection and voila. After that just get in your car and it will connect every time.

Gone for good ?
Loved it when I first (Ford 2017) got it. Could use all the features that came with it, but now after a few up greads, I am back using a wire (pluge in) to get A auto. Ready to drop the wire

Unit lasted 6 months before it stopped working
It was a toss up between the Motorola MA1 and the AA Wireless and I went with the more popular brand name. It worked flawlessly for 6 months then just stopping instantly 1 day. I tried everything under the sun to try and rectify and get it working again. I’m a techie so I’m familiar with electronics. I searched the forums, reddit, watched YouTube videos etc. and I was not able to successfully reboot the unit. Since it was 6 months I could not return it to Amazon so they suggested I reach out to the company themselves and I have to say they responded back instantly and asked for a pic of the amazon purchase and the back of the unit showing the serial number and less then 2 weeks I received a brand new unit and a pre paid shipping label to return the bad unit back to them. Customer service was quick and fast to get me up and going again.

Wireless Android Auto for those without Wireless Android Auto in their Vehicle
What more can I say that wasn’t said in the headline? The connection was effortless and the wireless Android works excellent. Although I was hoping it would fix the issue of my Galaxy S23 Ultra becoming unresponsive on the vehicle display, it works without any problems.

Flawless in Mercedes Benz Metris Cargo van (2021)
Fantastic gadget. Used in Mercedes Benz Metrics cargo van (2021) that only supports wired Android Auto. Connects as described in instructions, no issue. Adding a second user is easy though if both are in the car, the car can’t make up its mind on who to connect. I haven’t attempted to find a fix for this since I’m the one using the car 99% of the time, and my husband doesn’t really care. Warning: wireless Android Auto drains battery and heats up the phone REGARDLESS of this gadget. I experienced it in vehicles that come with wireless Android Auto by default. It’s just how it is, you have to accept that. Wired connection is still preferred if going on a long trip or needing to save battery. Connection is immediate (or as soon as the entertainment display boots up). Zero delays with controls (skip song, volume up/down, call/hang up, voice Assistant). This is easily one of the best upgrades for my vehicle. Strongly recommend this vs other aftermarket versions originating from China.

Works for some time
It’s great while it works. First one stopped working after 6 months, tried contacting both Amazon customer care as well as manufacturer, no use. Got the second one (coz I m addicted to wireless aa) it stopped working after 3 weeks.

Crash crash crash
Used it for a week on a 2018 Volvo XC90 to connect a Google Pixel 7 Pro and ohh boy it was a crash festival since day #1. It would crash and reboot about once every 5-10 minutes. Otherwise I LOVED everything about it. Easy to connect, good resolution, fast, BUT, completely unusable with the crashing issue. I tried it early in the morning just to confirm that it wasn’t an overheating issue, but it still did it. Not fun when you are using Google Maps to an unknown place and suddenly everything is black. I returned the item.

Green & white lights solution & kudos to this Amazon seller!
Purchased my MA1 on Amazon through Motorola Sound in November 2022 and it suddenly stopped working last week. Tried all of the recommended updates/uninstalls & reinstalls/reset button holds for up to a minute/etc. … nothing fixed my problem. My unit worked great until it suddenly wouldn’t connect and phone never “saw” the dongle. Trying all of the above, the only light sequence I got was a long white light followed by a short green light flash. This would continue with nothing happening. Pressing and holding the side button for any length just switched from white/green to a solid red which would not go away unless I unplugged dongle and started over. (Same sequence would happen with each process.) Dreaded having to call Motorola Sound as a lot of Amazon retailers are a PITA when it comes to warranties and troubleshooting … could NOT have been more pleased! In less than a 15-second explanation, Rep said my dongle was “stuck in a boot loop mode and nothing can be done to fix it.” Next sentence was, “we’ll be replacing that for you, no charge!” So, just sent some photos of my unit and order info in and should have a new dongle in “less than 10 days?” If you have this problem, hopefully your unit is still under warranty from wherever you purchased it and you can get it replaced? If not, I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I will update on new dongle once I receive it!

Unreliable operation
Purchased and installed in my Toyota. I have used it for several months now. It does make it easy to connect my phone on start up without having to connect to the cords. The problem I have found there are very specific places on my daily commute that the WiFi cuts out entirely where the road crossed over newly electrified train tracks and other specific places in the road for reasons I cannot explain. It will just drop out and has to reboot every time at these locations. Usually it takes about 3-5 minutes to reboot. Not sure if anything can be done about it. Overall I have been not impressed with this WiFi adapter. My phone seems to work much more reliably when connected to the cord through the vehicle directly. Overall I am disappointed with this device due to the spotty connectivity.
Tom Y –
Works fine
Does what it’s supposed to. Takes the cord out of the situation, which is what I wanted. Sometimes it takes about 25 seconds to connect, but mostly is a little less than that. The only reason it doesn’t get a 5 star is that the two-sided gel doesn’t hold up too well. A small piece of Velcro takes care of that.

Phone Bluetooth instability
Product have bad Bluetooth stability on my phone. I have a Pixel 7 Pro and this device is not stable on my phone although it has a good connection to my car just not to my phone. No help from Google or the makers of this device. If you have the same type of phone don’t waste your money.
R.L. –
Not for every car
2021 Telluride, there’s no way to mount it, device literally just hangs into the storage area unable to attach it to anything and the cord is to stiff to bend it anywhere. Device also does not disconnect for awhile after car is powered off. On top of this you need to be aware Android Auto wireless uses so much battery that you need to charge you phone while using it and wireless charging will not do it, YOU STILL NEED TO BE PLUGGED IN TO CHARGE FAST ENOUGH NOT TO DRAIN YOUR BATTERY.
Barton A. Mitchell –
Skips, pauses and disconnects often
I’ve been trying to use this for 3 weeks now. I have updated all the apps, my vehicle and Im constantly getting skips while listening to audio files. Quite frequently when the skipping gets more frequent, the device will just disconnect, pause for a minute, then reconnect.

Over rated, documented problems
I bought this device based on the name brand and a 4+ star rating. Sound was cutting out every once in a while but not too problematic. Unfortunately, after 3 months almost to the day, it stopped working. Tried factory reset, but nothing would help. Checking Reddit, I found this to be a common complaint for this device. Thankfully Amazon issued a refund.

Always disconnecting
It worked the first 2 days then it stopped working and it is easier to plug in phone with USB connection… the wireless feature is wonky, uses wifi direct which turns off the ability to search for anything…

Good for a while
Lasted for about 11 months, now overheats and disconnects.
jlcook1989 –
It works but…
It uses your wifi connection instead of Bluetooth once it’s set up, but needs both. Meaning if you have wifi in your vehicle that phone will be unable to use it and you have to use your mobile data.

Fantastic!!
This Motorola MA1 turned my wired Android Auto into “wireless” Android Auto in less than 5 minutes in my 2022 Toyota RAV4. It is a fantastic product. All my steering wheel buttons work perfectly. Definitely work the money if you don’t like wires!!
Kyung David Kim –
Overheats
Purchased this back in January of this year and it has been working fine up until a week ago. The connection is pretty quick and it will connect to the car within approx 15 second of the car starting up. No noticeable lag or disconnects until a week ago. Starting a week ago, the unit would work fine for about 45 minutes and then it will overheat and disconnect. Once it overheats, it tries to reconnect but will continue to fail to do so and will keep losing it’s connection. I tried cooling it with the AC which helps temporarily but then will quickly overheat again. Tried leaving it disconnected from the USB port (which is constantly live in my 2018 charger) but still the same issue. Customer service solution was basically to relocate the device to a more open area but that doesn’t make sense because the unit has been working fine for 8 months on many long drives that were over 5 hours long which makes me believe that this device is failing after less than a year. Will probably have to go back to using a wired connection if I can’t find another solution.

Worked Great! But returned!
While I had this it worked pretty good! However I didn’t like the price! So I started looking at other options again and saw another adapter that was cheaper and that had support for Android Auto and Apple Carplay! This one only supports Android! So to get one that supports both and was way cheaper I decided to give that one a try and ended up liking it and returned this one. The other performs good but is bigger in total foot print. It’s called “Wireless Android Auto Adapter & Carplay Wireless Adapter” by SHAPPON but the reviews after going look at it aren’t that great 2 months after buying it but they had so many versions im not sure what the bad reviews are for. Like which specific one. Mines still works great even in the TX summer heat. But now wondering if mine will fail or if it was one of the five other units they had listed that was getting the bad reviews… 🤔

Works pretty decent. Just not durable.
Works good and does what it says it does. Please Follow installation carefully. I had this device plugged into my car for about 5months, hidden away, didn’t fiddle with it or anything. Just kept it there and used it. Unfortunately it stopped working out of the blue and I only got 5 months of use. Very disappointed with the durability of this product as it worked fine and I did not remove it or tamper with it. Would love to have some type of help because I did not spend my money for just 5 months of usage. If this device lasted longer I would have given it 5 stars.

worked for a year, broken now…
The MA1 worked for one year, then stopped working. It showed a solid blue LED. This company has no documentation on what all possible LEDs mean… I replaced it with AAwireless which provides an app that shows you the current state and the next steps to configure your device. The AAwireless works perfectly and can be updated unlike MA1.

Works fine as long as they don’t ship you a faulty open box device
This is the second AA wireless adapter I tried. The first would not automatically connect after initial setup, and therefore I had to unplug and plug in the adapter to get it working. I therefore sent it back. I then ordered the MA1. When I received it, I was concerned since it was clearly an open box and it was missing the included gel pad. I tried it anyway, and sure enough the device was faulty as it wouldn’t enter bluetooth pairing mode. I sent it back and asked for an exchange. The new one arrived and works great. I wish it was a little faster to connect, but at least it works as intended. The only downside is that after shutting down my car, the USB port remains powered on for about 15 minutes. Therefore, if the phone is within range, it continues to try and connect to the MA1 and there is no easy way to defeat this attribute. I have read that other adapters have worked out ways to fix this issue, it would be nice if Motorola did the same.

Using 2 phones was a deal killer
We have 2 GM vehicles with wireless Android Auto which work great; multiple phones, no issues except for an occasional cutting out so I thought I’d try this for our RAM truck. Works great, albeit slow, but for 1 phone. When you introduce another, it isn’t so easy and ultimately, just plugging in the USB cable not only provided a quicker connection, but also charges which is also important. The RAM’s inductive charger is not very convenient so ultimately, it went back as the extra $80 wasn’t worth the aggravation.

Excellent Performance – minor quirks
I installed this in a 2023 Subaru Forester Limited because the wired Android Auto kept dropping off. This works very well! It takes a few seconds to pair with your phone, and then you are good to go. Full Android Auto functionality. It seldom skips or has interference, and it is 100% better than the Subaru wired experience. Just a couple of observations: -The screen response does lag but it is almost not noticeable, you get used to the very slight delay. You only notice it when typing an address into navigation (I usually use voice but sometimes if stopped I type). -We paired 2 phones, and you have to make sure that Bluetooth and WiFi are off on the phone you don’t want paired. Otherwise there can be a conflict and it seems like neither phone works, or it pairs with the wrong one (and your significant other looks at you like you don’t know what you’re doing). -It occasionally did not pair, so we held down the pair/reset button, reset the device, and it was fine. -When you charge, remember to NOT plug it in to the USB receptacles that transfer data, or you’ll create a conflict with the car’s system.

Was nice while it lasted
This product was great until it wasn’t. I had the same issue that a lot of people seem to be having. Right outside the warranty, it starts getting super hot and begins disconnecting every two to three minutes. I’ve been through the endless loop of trying to reset it, restart it, reconnect to it, and the best I can get is 3 minutes and it’s almost hot enough to burn you. I won’t be buying another one because at $100, I expect to get more then 14 months of use.

Going wireless was easy and convenient
After forgetting my phone in the truck too many times because it was plugged in to use Android Auto I decided to go wireless with an MA1. The set-up was quick and easy, only a couple of minutes and I was good to go. Re-connecting each time I start my truck is relatively fast, only a few seconds longer than when connected via USB. There are a few minor drawbacks to going wireless. I occasionally lose connection when passing weather stations which mess up the signal for 5-10 seconds because they send out a signal of their own, boot time is just slightly slower than wired, and Android Auto uses quite a bit of power so longer trips will still require you to plug your phone in somewhere to keep from using too much battery. My estimate is that I use 10-15% of my charge per hour when not plugged in. When I compare the gains in the convenience of not having to take my phone out and plug it in each time I get into and out of my truck, as compared to the minor drawbacks the MA1 is a clear winner for me.
Bernie –
Super convenient
This connects automatically after doing the intial Bluetooth hook-up. Very convenient to have Android Auto wireless for those quick trips where you don’t want to take your phone out of pocket and mess with wires. Does seem to drain the battery just a little more than usual. I’m using this device with a Galaxy Z Fold4 on a 2023 Honda Ridgeline. Would definitely buy again.

Still Learning
Still learning the interface. There are some annoyances, like playing audio I didn’t have queued to play. Works with Waze, but haven’t figured how to use with Goodle maps yet. Also, in Waze, have not yet figured how to send notifications to friends/associates like I can on my phone.

Works great!
I use this in my Rav4 to connect my Android to my car (Android Auto app) as soon as I’m in the car, so now I don’t have to physically connect my phone to a cord in my car. Works exactly as intended! The only thing I lose is that my phone no longer charges while in the car since I don’t actually plug it in.

It worked great til it didn’t.
Very easy to load and pair with your vehicle. After 6mths, i got a message that USB is not supported. Its the device cause now im plugging phone in and it works fine. Im disappointed cause it WAS a great device, til it stopped working.

You get what you pay for. This quality product is worth the price because it works.
I bought this adapter based on a relative’s recommendation. It’s very easy to use and it works exactly as advertised. This is a quality product made by a reputable company.

Really happy I purchased this
I purchased a used 2020 Acura RDX with Android Auto Play, but I had to use a cable to connect my phone to the car. I did this for about 2 months, and finally decided to spend the money and purchase this adapter. Money well spent! Now when I get into the car my Pixel 6Pro connects within seconds and Auto Play is up and running without the cable etc. Now keep in mind this does not charge your phone, it only connects your phone to the car. I’ve been nothing but pleased with this purchase, works really well.
