Breaking Down the Blue driver obd scanner: Where Do Its Promises and Pitfalls Lie?
User-Friendly and Comprehensive: The BlueDriver Bluetooth Pro OBDII Scan Tool is celebrated for its user-friendly interface and extensive features. As Michael points out, it is “so user-friendly” that it suits both novices and experienced mechanics. Additionally, he appreciates the inclusion of videos, notes, and an “excellent support department” that further enhance the user experience.
Accurate Diagnostics: Many users, like James Weathers, praise the BlueDriver for its accurate diagnostic capabilities. James mentions that it “has been able to scan without issues” on various car models, including a Mazda, BMW, and Ford. This precision in detecting and reporting diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) makes it a reliable tool for car owners.
Cost-Effective and Time-Saving: Adam C. highlights the cost-effectiveness and convenience of the BlueDriver. He shares that it “paid for itself in less than a week” by enabling him to diagnose and repair his vehicle without a costly trip to the mechanic. This aspect is particularly beneficial for users looking to save money and avoid the hassle of visiting repair shops.
Limited Compatibility with Certain Car Models: Some users have reported issues with the BlueDriver’s compatibility with specific car brands. For instance, Diego found the device “useless for Porsche or BMW” as it failed to detect basic error codes on his 2015 Macan and 2017 X6, which were detected by other tools. This suggests that potential buyers should verify compatibility with their car models before purchasing.
Incomplete Data and Missing Features: Ken A. notes that the BlueDriver provides “minimal sensor info” compared to cheaper alternatives. He experienced this limitation with his 2018 Volvo, where it did not display critical information such as transmission temperature and oil temperature. Users looking for comprehensive sensor data might find the BlueDriver lacking in this aspect.
The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
I bought 2 ODB scanners from 2 different manufactures at the same time. ANCEL obd2 scanner was returned for refund because it couldn’t detect and report the 4 DTCs which the BlueDriver could. I’ll keep the BlueDriver. My car are 2013 Toyota Sienna & 2003 Acura TL 3.2.
The hubs has had this for quite awhile not used many times yet from what he has said he isn’t disappointed, said he’d buy again!

Problems connecting or staying connected to the app.
When it works it’s pretty good, but this thing will attempt to run a comprehensive scan and lose connection when it’s almost done everytime. It will also just simply fail to connect over and over, if I turn off the vehicle and restart it, it will then attempt to connect again. If it would connect to the app (1ft away) everytime it would be great. Tested from multiple phones, same issue.

Worth every cent!! P0606 CODE
First, the BlueDriver Pro Scan Tool is a life saver!! It saved me $1500!! I own a 2014 Toyota Prius that had had a check engine light on. I have an older ODB 2 scan tool, so I ran a scan with it. It came up with a P0606 Code. Which indicated a problem with the Power Control Module. Evidently the kiss of death! I was told that I might be better off selling the car. I took it to a mechanic and he scaned it coming up with the same code. He told me that I’d have to replace the PCM. The PCM costs about on average $600 brand new. I thought I’d be able to replace it. Read up on it and watched videos on replacing it. Turns out you have to take the complete dash out, just to remove it. Even if I had done so, it has to be reprogrammed by the dealership or certified mechanic. That went beyond my skill set. So, I went to a couple mechanics that quoted me from $1300 – $1500!! 🤯 Back to the internet!! After reading just about everything I could find about Code P0606, it looked like I was going to have to bite the bullet and take it to a shop qualified to replace and reprogram the PCM. Then I came across a site that talked about the differences between a cheap ODB 2 reader and the ones that professional auto repair shops use. I had no idea that there are so many codes the cheap ODB 2 readers don’t scan! And how valuable the Freeze Frame Data is. Way to much to explain here, but it’s worth searching for it. Anyway, I searched for an ODB 2 scanner that would display the Freeze Frame Data. It showes values the all the different sensors read at the moment the error occurs. And I found the BlueDriver Pro Dcan Tool. It was the 3rd best reader on two review lists. I chose the BlueDriver because you don’t have to pay for the app and additional features. Which the two rated better you’d have too. I connected it to my Prius as soon as I got it, and it came up with a P0607 Code, which is pretty much the same as the P0606 Code. But, it also threw a P0517 Code. Indicates a problem with the battery temperature circuit (BTS). I tried to clear the codes, without any success. The BlueDriver also links you to the associated part for the code, which took me to Amazon just tapping on the code. My battery had been changed about 6 months earlier, so I pulled back the covers to take a look at the part. SOB!! There was this little plug that was not connected!! Plugged it in, Cleared the codes, and the check engine light turned OFF!!! Drove it for about 50 miles, and it never turned back on! I ran the live scan while driving it around, just incase the light turned back on, which is really cool!! I passed smog!! Oh!! You can also check if your car will pass smog with the BlueDriver Pro Scan Tool before you take it to be smogged!! It works!!! $99 that saved me $1500!!! Needless to say, worth every cent I paid for it!! I’d recommend the BlueDriver Pro Scan Tool to anyone that has a check engine light on! Especially if its throwing a P0606 or P0607 Code!!

Excellent investment
Dealers want to charge a couple of hundred dollars to do what this device can do. Paid for itself on first use.

Tells you the codes
Useful for diagnosing problems with a vehicle. Provides a list of solutions that solved other instances of the same code. Easy to connect. Can show live readouts of a vehicle. Cool box for storing when not in use. Light indicator lets me know it is plugged in.

Slow, behind the times
This scanner is slow and will not do transmission fluid temp for Subaru, Toyota, and many others. Without transmission fluid temp, this tool is somewhat useless for DIYer that would like to change transmission fluid on a sealed transmission. The tool is good for standard diagnostic, but you can achieve the same results with a generic OBDII unit and freeware.

Only works for vehicles sold in the USA but its very good.

Product Bricked After Use
TLDR: product bricked after I used it a handful of times. I found this product through Chris fix on YouTube and I purchased it believing that it would last me forever and I wouldn’t have to get a different one. I used it for a while and it worked perfectly fine. Read all of my codes and helped me and my buddies find things wrong and clear codes. The interface works amazing shows live data great and works perfect while it worked but after a while of use, it said it needed to update and when I went to update it, it seemed to have bricked itself and won’t get past 0% update no matter how long I keep it plugged in the running vehicle. i’ve tried reaching out to BlueDriver via email and Instagram DM, but have gotten nothing back in the terms of a response or solution to my problem. i’m trying different ways of resetting the device, but it just doesn’t seem to work or fix the problem of it not getting past 0 percent. i’m very disappointed in the product because I got it because of watching this YouTuber and trusting it and trusting the company with backing their product, but I have heard nothing back from them.

Good but not great
HONEST REVIEW: this is a great OBD device but you need your car to be on and running. My car ecu completely died and I couldn’t diagnose what happen because app kept saying “make sure your car is running” Use the older OBD device that are wired and not Bluetooth. Device lets you see alot of info about your car but the videos provided by the app on “how to repair” don’t help or didn’t even show up.

Works great, better than expected
I love that this works directly with their app. Simple to plug into the OBD of my 2001 Tundra. Helped me quickly diagnose the check engine code. You can send a report to your e-mail or whatever. I left it plugged in and then it helped me live-scan to confirm the new oxygen sensor was working at the correct voltage.

Useful for most check engine lights
I’ve had code readers for about 15 years now and my latest is about 7 years old. They will read codes, most of them anyway, no matter how out of date because a code is a code. I purchased this one for a MB GLK350 with a CEL. It was a P0128, which was what my old code reader had displayed. The old code reader would NOT clear the code but the BD Pro did clear the code. The only reason for 4 stars is that the GLK has a SRS code that it does not see and would not let me clear or try to clear.

Great ODB reader
It worked really well. Very easy to setup on iPhone. Love that it sends results directly to my phone and tells you what is most likely wrong and will even give you links to buy the parts and videos to show you how to fix. You can even go back after repair and clear the codes. So glad I spent a few extra dollars and got this one

Could not clear honda enhanced abs codes. Connection issue sometimes.
Connection is not the smoothest. Works great when it does but sometimes have to unplug, switch off the car and try again. It could read trouble codes from honda enhanced abs module but could not clear them. It would hang or just wouldn’t clear. Got an advanced unit from another major manufacturer of obd scanners and it cleared them right away.

Not woth the money
Shows has that it has codes in initial scan but says no codes stored when checkin. Definitely overpriced for product performance.
Erik –
POS
This thing is worthless. One screen tells me that my check engine light is on, which is true, but then I have it scan for codes and it says there are no codes. I tried scanning just the check engine light as well as all the other scanning modes and then it drops my bluetooth connection. I do not recommend this tool as it is a POS! I had to give it 1 star because that is the only option, I wish I could give it less than 0.
Rylee –
Bought this twice due to functionality
Reason i out 3 stars is this scanner is extremely slow at pulling codes and wiping codes. Live data is fast though which is odd. I have a cheap $6 temu scanner and it pulls codes in less then 2 seconds(once clicking the button) where as the bludrive takes about 12 minutes to finish pulling codes. And deleting codes takes just as long if not longer
