Does not connect to newer GM trucks for example my 2021 GMC Sierra v8. Will not do Elec. Parking brake deactivation for rear pad service. Nor does it check things as simple as engine codes on the truck. For the extra 50 bucks get a La**** even if they have no US support (I tried both tools).

2 year review does not reset service light
I purchased this tool 2 years ago. Mostly it has sat on the shelf. I use it once a year to reset oil change service light or notification on my vehicles. It no longer does so on a 2015 Porsche Macan. It says reset successful but nothing happens. I do have my previous tool iCarsoft POR-II that after 6 years is still running awesome. I paid three times as much for xTool and it sucks. I would not buy this product again. Very disappointed.

So far it’s been great. I’ve used the ford powerbalance function to diagnose and repair faulty injectors on my truck as well as my neighbors. It’s not quite the ford IDS as far as functionality but it is one of the best aftermarket diagnostic tools I’ve ever used. One of my favorite things about it is that it charges via the OBDII port. It’s so nice to only have one cord attached to the tool.

Bought it can’t reset oil life on my BMW 335xi car has 63000 miles on it reset the oil life and it tells me I’m 90000 miles past on my oil change. First it was saying that it was 60000 miles past reset the whole scanner like the product support people told me to and then it said it was 90000 miles past now that it’s past the 30 days so I can’t return it and get my money back now it won’t turn on. Better luck for anyone who buys it

Has been great for assisting with car repairs. Already paid for itself by helping me to add additional keys and key fobs to multiple vehicles. 2018 Subaru Outback CVT Fluid Replacement and Relearn
Worked great. I needed to read live data on the CVT fluid temperature, and to perform a CVT relearn. After being plugged into the car, the D7 was able to auto identify my car through the VIN and immediately start reading live data. For the price, this bidirectional scanner is great.

Bought to up gun my scanning capability: can’t say enough about this. Helped me identify I had the incorrect PCM on my 04 F-150; the one installed was for a 5.4L when I have a 4.6…was throwing codes for things I didn’t have on that motor. PCM swap and boom, codes gone. The key programming function was also a life saver; PCM didn’t have any keys, but was able to reprogram my existing key to new PCM with this reader. Thought I was going to need a locksmith but I knocked it out with this D7.

Used three times then put it up for a couple months..Went to use it today and the battery was completely dead.. Tried to charge it but nothing happened.. No OBD-1 support
Overall this seems a great scanner. My newer Hondas are very well supported. It doesn’t seem to handle OBD1/ALDL at all, so that’s a disappointment (though to be fair, it never claimed to). It also didn’t seem to be able to trigger brake maintenance mode on a Ford Fusion, so I had to do that with a magic button sequence inside the car. Generally happy with it, though.

Given how much tech is installed in vehicles today, a must have to read and clear codes when repairing anything electrical/sensor related. Definitely update when you get it and read the instructions. Some steps are not intuitive. The only ‘ding’ I’d give the tool is that I cannot figure out how to delete read and programming commands for vehicles I’d never see (this has a database for vehicles a available around the world)… for example Skoda’s… etc. But a great buy.

Doesn’t Cover What it Should
The scanner hardware is nice (an Android tablet), and it’s rugged. As for the software, it covers oodles of car brands – some I’d never even heard of – and the company provides frequent updates. That’s good. HOWEVER … in some cases, it falls short of even basic expectations. Today’s problem is that it won’t perform an ABS bleed on a 1997 Chevrolet K2500 4×4. That’s a very widely used system that’s been around for 30 years or so. I thought maybe I followed the wrong menu or had a bad connection, but a disappointing email response from the manufacturer confirmed they don’t support that function for those vehicles. That capability should be a no-brainer for a bidirectional scanner that’s otherwise so capable. So, I’ll continue to use it for what I can. I’m just not sure I’ll be paying for their annual access subscription when my initial trial period is done.

Really important to have one of these if you work on cars often. The D7 is a great choice.
My friends and neighbors always hit on me diagnose their cars after they visit their mechanic. Usually complain that they didn’t get a good diagnosis and just had parts thrown at them. I am amazed at that level of data that the D7 can deliver when scanning. Works on every car make. Its a real professional level tool. It takes a bit to learn and understand all the features. Its packed with features. Once you understand how to read and analyze the data you can find and fix things before they trip the check engine light. Some things will go bad and not trip the light. Fixed one problem where the shop said it was a bad transmission. Turned out the steering angle sensor needed to be reset. The D7 has an SAS reset function. The D7 has a great display and once you learn the menus it easy to find things. If anything is bad its there’s too much info. It helpful if you understand how ECUs / ABS / SRS systems work and can narrow down which systems to look at. You can then just select those items you want to monitor and record. I got the Xtool D7 because it was on sale. Was watching for a sale and got a great price.

Bought this to reset the ethanol fuel trims on my 2016 Tundra and it did that just fine. What I’m confused about is why it can’t remove the annoying seat belt chime? For that you have to buy the $1000+ model and I won’t do that just to get rid of the chime. So yeah heads up.

Would not work to reset an airbag light on a BMW
I had high hopes for the the XTool D7, but it wasn’t able to perform a basic reset function on a 2000 BMW airbag light. I contacted XTool tech support using email. Although they were nice and replied quickly, they weren’t able to solve my problem after 4 weeks of corresponding via many emails.
