What Are the Advantages and Disadvantages of the Diagnostic Tool?
In summary, the ANCEL VD700 is a valuable tool for Audi and VW owners looking to perform basic maintenance and diagnostics themselves. It offers an intuitive user experience, comprehensive functions for a reasonable price, and significant savings on service costs. However, its lack of compatibility with Mac OS for updates and limited advanced diagnostic capabilities may be a downside for some users. Overall, it’s a solid choice for routine maintenance but may not suffice for more complex tasks.
The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
This tool has saved me tons of money so far! I absolutely HATE how Audi makes it difficult for anyone to work on their own vehicles. This little scanner solves many of those problems. So far I have diagnosed and fixed several issues, reset service reminders, and replaced the brakes on the Q7. Not one of those would have been possible without this tool. It has saved me THOUSANDS of dollars in just a few months!
I purchased the VD700 a few months back to do the brakes on my 2018 S4 without any problems, I also have RT Vcd’s but find it a bit complicated to use last week I had a low coolant shut down the engine warning, on my 2018 S4, I refilled the coolant, but the code stayed. The VD700 couldn’t find any faults, the car has 80k miles, I almost gave up and went to the dealer. Vcd’s immediately detected the fault, deleted the code, no problems since. I thought the VD700 could detect and erase all faults “full systems diagnostics” but that is not the case, granted I am not very knowledgeable but pretty disappointed with it

Able to read VW DTC codes
This unit was able to troubleshoot the cause of a trouble code on my daughter’s 2006 VW beetle. I was able to replace the crankshaft position sensor for an investment of $20 and some time rather than having to bring it in for service.

Used for battery registration of Q7 2019 4cyl
Worked well to register a new Audi genuine battery (Varta). Wanted to see some instruction for all functions. Still don’t know what else I can do with it.

Works on resetting Audi Inspection Needed notice
For those of your looking for a “relatively” less expensive way to reset the Inspection Needed notice, this VD700 did the trick quickly and easily on my ’18 Audi S5. The customer service team were very helpful to confirm this before I bought it, but I had problems getting other tool versions to work. I checked out the other functions briefly and the VD700 responded quickly. I’m hoping it works as well when it comes time for brakes and battery.

Buggy, but ultimatly got the job done
I was using this tool to disengage the electronic emergency brake on a 2021 VW Tiguan to change the rear brakes, it was a very buggy tool but ultimately the e-brake disengaged for the job and re-engaged after, though I would not trust this tool to do this consistently every time.

Slick plug in it works
Excellent, but need a little booklet to explain it all, very complex but it took care of my service interval message

Worked perfectly to reset Inspection Due on Audi Q3

2015 Jetta – Helps diagnosis of issues
Worked great on 2015 Volkswagen Jetta. Immediately notified which ABS sensors were bad (if you have a Christmas tree on you dashboard suddenly.)

Great tool!
This tool saved me from buying a new car. I have a 2007 Audi A3 with 240K miles on it. Yes, 240K miles! I was ready to pull the trigger when I thought I’d try this first and see what faults I can find. This tiny and mighty scanner was able to find faults I never knew my car had that my old scanner would not detect. Faults that does not throw a CEL are stored on my car and was able to diagnose, fixed and clear it all. What really saved me is the throttle relearn feature. I thought my transmission went bad, but all i really needed was a throttle relearn. My car now drives great and gears are shifting so smoothly. I don’t remember my car ever drove this good. Now I am kicking myself in the butt for not getting this tool sooner. User interface on the app is good but could be improved specially when customizing the dashboard. The app will give you a lot of useful information when diagnosing your car. Very powerful tool!

Doesn’t do BMS battery reset. Useless DON’T!!!!
Description looked good…..until…..you try to use it to reset the BMS. It cannot reset the BMS if you install a new battery. You won’t discover this because the instructions are lacking. The advertising is misleading. This makes this ODB ordinary and not worth the expensive cost. I wish I researched better, but unfortunately the product description was deceiving.

Worked as Designed I would buy again
I Purchased this band after having issues with iCarsoft VAWS V2.0 ( Avoid that brand) that I purchased and did not received all of the items that were needed to connect the other brand to my Vehicle. My main purpose was to be able to retrack the parking brake on a 2016 Audi A6 Quattro, so I could change the rear brakes. This product was able to do that without issue right out of the box, no updates needed. It has a lot more functions that I did not use but will need for future work I plan to do.

Must have for doing a brake job on Audi
This product is easy to use, easy to install and required for certain jobs on Audi and other European vehicles. Supposedly it can unlock many other functions like auto roll down of windows with the key fob, etc, but I used it to release the rear parking brake motor so I could change out the brake pads. Worked great!

VW – Can’t reprogram for battery change.
This is way more limited then it appears. Highly disappointed. Coud not finish project because it will not allow you to reprogram the battery. Cheap build and big/bulky.

Works great!!
Bought it to run the fuel pumps on Jetta tdi. Simple and easy to use
TitsMcGee12345 –
Awesome – have been driving w/ “Inspection Due” on in-dash for 2 years, resolved immediately.
This works as expected for VW/Audi, etc. I have been driving my A6 for 3 years now, and for 2 of them, it’s had the “inspection due” message appearing. I self-serviced all of the filters and lubrications, etc. that are required for the 30,000km inspection, but you cannot clear the message without access to the OBD system. Normal OBDII readers won’t work for Audi/VW, but this one is specifically designed for it. At first, I thought it was not working, but it took about 5 minutes of running the vehicle with the device paired to my phone before all of the diagnostics and options loaded. I bought it specifically to clear that message as I don’t have any friends w/ auto repair shops who could help with it. I’m excited to also be able to disable the electronic brakes so I can swap my own brakes in the future.

No free updates if you have a Mac like most computer owners today.
I ordered this expecting free lifetime updates only to learn Mac OS isn’t available. Why buy this if it isn’t updatable?

Great for Audi
First code reader that can actually read my Audi and reset warnings! Was able to register new battery and save a bundle doing it myself – worth every penny
Seth_Miller –
Perfect for my 2015 Audi Q5
Within five minutes I was able to clear the airbag light and the “Service Due” message on my 2015 Audi Q5, which is exactly what I wanted to do. The tool is intuitive and easy to use.
Micheal P. –
Perfect, told me what I needed on my VW
Needed the VW programming to tell me which sensor was out. Front left ABS… worked great and saved me a bunch of money.
E. Olang –
Does the job for VW but…
the cons are, it does not retain the report after you run, meaning it has to be plugged in to get a report that is not stored. also not handling brake jobs like retracting the brake piston or bleading
Julian Acuna –
Affordable tool!
Product saved me several hundreds off dollars on the first use. Was able to reset an airbag light that unplugged and prime my fuel filter. Great tool for the price. Recommended for all vehicles out of warranty.

A necessary tool for modern maintenance
The fact of life is that as automobiles have become more and more complex, with electronic control of systems that used to be fully mechanical, the tools needed to perform routine maintenance tasks have also increased in complexity. This tool, the Ancel VD700, is a maintenance tool tailored to VAG vehicles that can read and reset the common interval timers and fault codes, as well as push the virtual buttons necessary to perform some routine maintenance tasks, like retracting the rear caliper pistons on models with electronic parking brakes. What it is not is a diagnostic tool that also performs other, more in-depth functions, like control unit coding, reveal granular details, or perform data logging, like the Ross-Tech VCDS system that is often cited by VW enthusiast owners. Nor is it a $200 tool cable that also requires connection to a Windows computer to function, as VCDS does. While VCDS is undoubtedly more capable, and its basic license supports the servicing of three vehicles, the scope of that system may extend beyond the needs, or desires, of many owners who simply wish to perform routine maintenance, and not deep diagnostics or customization of their vehicles. For those with more modest needs, the VD700 can do the job, and as a piece of autonomous hardware, also carries one significant advantage over the phone app-based, cloud-connected diagnostic tool options. While those types of tools are also very capable, and popular, their reliance on cloud connections, and subscription-based revenue models can present their own challenges and foibles. One faulty link in their chains can turn a routine task into a tech support ordeal, not aided by the fact their developers can be based overseas in different time zones, not conducive to getting timely, or easy support. When a job needs to be done, on time, with the vehicle off road, having the tool fail you is among the most frustrating circumstances one may experience. Ultimately, the “right tool for the right job” is the mantra that rules, so plan and act accordingly. Each has its use cases, and the owner will have to decide which suits their needs best. But even a simpler tool like the VD700 can easily justify its cost with one job, like the halving the cost of a routine brake job, compared to having it done by a shop.

Simple, effective, and saves you a ton of money.
The media could not be loaded. Quite honestly, we purchased this scan tool for the sole purpose of changing the rear brake pads on a 2018 Audi A4 allroad with an EPB (electronic parking brake). Once connected into the car’s OBD port, the Bluetooth connection to an iPhone was immediate and intuitive, and the menu layout of the tool was super easy to navigate. The EPB reset worked like a charm, and more importantly, it put the caliper piston back into the proper position after the pads (and rotor) were changed. NO warning light or fault codes once the job was done. And the money saved from this DIY work compared to the Audi dealer’s estimate for the job paid for the scan tool many times over. WIN-WIN. I very highly recommend this product, and that’s coming from your typical DIY home mechanic.

High Quality
I made the mistake of first buying the inferior cousin, the VD500 diagnostic tool. This VD700 is superior in every way. It is larger, has much more capabilities, and gives a way more accurate display of what’s going on. I have a 2013 VW TDI with ABS issues and this was able to diagnose and give me error codes which gave me some solid direction on where to go with repairs. A high quality piece of technology that any Auid/VW owner should keep on standby. Great product and great quality.

I thought the VD700 could detect and erase all faults “full systems diagnostics” but that is not the case, granted I am not very knowledgeable but pretty disappointed with it

Excelente producto para un Volkswagen
Funciona full según lo descrito más que todo para el dueño de un vw y no tener que llevarlo a un taller mecánico antes de saber que puede tener el vehículo

Doesn’t really do what it’s advertised to do. It’s just a fancy more expensive code reader.

Parking Brake VW Atlas Disengage
Used this to disengage parking brake for 2018 VW Atlas. Easy interface, worked perfectly and saved me time and money. Great product!

Not a substitute for VCDS
I was hoping that I could use this to adjust IQ and Injection timing. No such luck. Just spend the $200 and get the Ross-Tech VCDS. It is a cool tool though. You can look at much of the data in your ECU. Units are wonky. For $56 it does much more than a common OBD II reader.

Reset Inspection Due on 2018 Audi Q5
The only thing that I wanted from this device is to reset the inspection due and it works very easy. Very easy to connect. It probably took me within 10 minutes from Start the engine to complete the reset. Very satisfied.
J. Wilson –
Works great!
It works great. I bought it for a few specific reasons, but the first reason was to get the Inspection Due reminder off of my Audi dash. It’s a bit ridiculous that you can’t adjust it in the vehicle’s maintenance settings, but this scan tool will do it easily. It is also more intuitive to use than other scan tools I’ve used.

Works on my Audi
Still figuring it out. It seems to work ok delivery was basically overnight

Don’t Have to Go to Dealer
Needed to reset battery code on my Audi, pretty easy to do if you read online forums. Just keep the product # the same and change the last digit of the serial #. Also great for changing rear brake pads if you have electronic parking brake (should have never been designed that way, just gives dealer extra $$$$ as most people can’t change rear pads themselves now)

Best device ever – Audi q5 2012
Great Unit, great build, great app and easy functionality , best of all the report feature store your scans for easy review and vehicle monitoring / maintenance
DW –
Easy to use
It did not come with instructions but it was easy to figure out. The function I used is the EPB for changing rear brakes on VW and also reading & erasing some fault codes. Maybe in the future they will add a QR code to access the full set of instructions.

Battery Registration
First off I’d like to say the package was partially open when I received it, fortunately, the scanner was there and I needed it so I didn’t return it as I probably should have. I was able to download the manual that was missing and the USB data cable they are supposed to be sending me one, that was also missing. It worked and saved me money when I had to replace my car battery on a 2020 VW tiguan sel premium r-line. The scanner and a couple of how to videos made it real easy with no engine lights afterwards.
Bryan A Okubo –
Works well, but can be a little slow
I bought this to work on my 06 S4, and 18 A5. Actually, more for the A5, as I don’t want to use my VCDS cable for that and burn up one out of three VIN. I did use it on my S4 to reset the oil change light and it worked great. I did a full system scan and that took quite awhile. Then you go back to each menu to see what the error code is, go back to the menu and clear the code. Then you are supposed to turn off the ignition and restart. I just kept backing out of the menu to get to the next trouble code and continue clearing them. Compared to other code readers, this one was a bit slower.
Peter R. –
Great product
A must for the professional VW/Audi tech. Quick scanning, easy service resets if you ODIS is acting up, or there is potentially a quick fix.
Joseph Baran –
It works on VW 2022…
It works on VW 2022, but the instructions are very basic and not specific. The Ancel tool will retract brake motors ONLY when the car battery is charged above 90% and a Battery Charger is connected to the battery. After the tool is done with the brake motors, you will still need to push the caliper pistons back with a suitable tool like the Lisle 24400 Disc Brake Pad Spreader. Do not disconnect the Ancel while changing pads or rotors. When you’re done follow the Ancel instructions on the display.
Jaynes –
Great Product
Great product does as advertised wish it came with more information on coding and how to change VW/Audi coding but over all did exactly what i needed it to do and it has worked flawlessly on other things as code issues I had as well.

Pinpointed problems
I have a 2015 Jetta. It intermittently showed a bulb out warning but all bulbs were working. Car had a led conversion by previous owner. I suspected led bulbs were causing a problem but didn’t know which one(s). This tool directed me to the left fog light. I replaced the light and warning went away and hasn’t come back. Also had intermittent tire pressure, ABS, steering wheel and others that I knew were a wheel speed sensor issue. This tool told me the left front was the issue. Changed it and all is good now. Summed up, the tool did what it advertised and pinpointed the issues.
