What’s Good, Bad, and Ugly About the Robot Vacuum? An In-Depth Review
The Shark robot vacuum has garnered positive remarks from users who value its time-saving capabilities and its proficiency in cleaning both carpets and hard floors. As one user joyfully stated, “Saves us 112hrs a year! That’s roughly 20 min a day. The orange is worth the squeeze.” This sentiment is echoed by others who highlight the vacuum’s impressive mapping technology, which allows users to instruct the device to clean specific rooms via their phone. The convenience offered by the vacuum’s self-emptying feature is frequently praised, as it can handle pet hair effectively, with one user affirming, “This vacuum is awesome. We have two Spaniels and the wife has extremely curly red hair. This vacuum does its job and then some.”
In terms of reliability, there are reports of the Shark vacuum performing exceptionally for several months without any significant issues. Its scheduling functionality, when operating correctly, enables users to automate their cleaning routines, providing a seamless and hands-off experience. The machine’s performance is considered comparable to higher-priced alternatives, as one user acknowledges, “does the hard floors right and as good as the ones that cost twice as much.”
Despite its advantages, the Shark robot vacuum also faces considerable criticism. A recurring theme in the negative reviews is the vacuum’s longevity, with multiple users experiencing breakdowns within a year. One user expressed frustration, stating, “Only Lasted 8 Months,” while another added, “Broke in a Couple of Months.” Technical issues such as error messages regarding the IR disc and wheel malfunctions have been reported, leading to dissatisfaction with the device’s durability and quality assurance.
The accompanying app has been a source of discontent, with users citing a lack of basic functionality like matrix cleaning and random activation at odd hours despite scheduled times and “do not disturb” settings. Customer service responses have been found wanting, with suggestions like factory resets failing to resolve the issues permanently.
The product’s handling of pet hair has also been critiqued. One user found the model not suitable for pet hair, experiencing frequent clogging, and feeling that the money spent was wasted. Additionally, the machine’s inability to clean without supervision has led to increased user intervention, negating the purpose of an autonomous vacuum. The sentiment is summed up by a user’s comment, “Refuses to clean the room I send it to,” indicating problems with the vacuum’s smart features.
Connectivity and mapping issues plague some units, with the vacuum either cleaning the same area repeatedly or struggling to navigate around the home effectively. This has been compounded by the apparent lack of firmware updates or responsive technical support to address such glitches. As one user lamented, “It’s a brick because the app can’t connect,” highlighting the frustration felt when the device fails to meet expectations.
The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
This robot is working great for our family home so far. It has mapped the main floor perfectly. Each day it runs it gets better and better at getting every inch of the room area. We have used it for 1 week daily and each day I am surprised on how much pet hair and dust it picks up. I would recommend this product for this price range. Worth the money.
Disappointed. Got this to replace my iRobot Roomba. My Roomba picked up all the dog hair feom my carpet. This Shark just goes over the top of it and leaves the hair. This may be fire for houses with no carpet, but it sure isn’t as good as the iRobot. Looks like this will be going back.

Problematic Software
This little sweeper can work without it, but there are major problems with the software and app connectivity to use all the features you’re paying for. It’s been a month and not even tech support could get it to connect to my app.

Price
It is a good product. Hopefully it will be good by performance. Purchased this brand for the first time. I can’t rate it now.
txmimi –
It does a good job.
The vacuum is super slow. It is also louder while operating than my previous one. I have 1800 sq ft and it has to redock and charge for 3 hrs before completing the house. This is in eco mode which is supposed to save battery. It does a good job of getting the floor clean and it navigates over my plush area rug well. When it empties the vac receptacle into the dock it is quite loud. I will keep it since it does a good overall cleaning; better than old one.
Christianna –
Do not purchase
Only lasted 8 months. Error message about side arm . Although I went through all the steps to clear error problem persist no resolution to problem no way to clear error. Disappointed was not inexpensive purchase

Works great. Great for pet owners
My wife and I love this thing. She rolled her eyes when I first started it up but now after a month the floors are spotless. We have labs who shed like crazy and now the house is hair free. A great pick we even nicknamed it and ask what it’s up to when it is vacuuming. One caution make sure Lise items like socks aren’t on the floor or it will get pulled into the roller
Amazon Customer –
Not a gift, however!
Good reason to keep things picked up. We’ve only had it a couple of weeks, but it will be great.
GERALDINE FERNANDO –
Okay
At first i really loved it. We have it at setting everyday at the same time and it’ll start cleaning and i love that. However after 3 months it wont clean the whole house anymore. It will clean one spot then go back to dock after 5 mins. I cleaned the filter, changed it and remap it but it still wont clean the whole house anymore. It still work but it’s just not cleaning how it was cleaning before.

Lifesaver for a home with kids and dogs!
I love that once the map was done I could send Tony to any area or room that needed work. I have it run in the hallway and my bedroom constantly because I can’t stand seeing my dogs light colored fur on our dark wood floors. The only thing I don’t like and would love them to upgrade on the app is to hold more than one map. We have two stories and it would be great to be able to bring Tony downstairs and have him do his thing on a second map. I just brought him downstairs for the first time and have him running but there’s no way to send him to say just the kitchen since this floor isn’t mapped. Absolutely a great vacuum and I highly recommend.

AI shark ultra vacuum vs Roomba J7+
Let’s start out that I have two Golden Retrievers need I say more!!! I initially bought the Roomba J7+ but was not impressed with the vacuuming it did from hardwood floors to carpet. It would leave behind pet hair that it accumulated from the hardwood floors onto the carpet. After running them both, I have determined that the AI shark ultra is a better unit!! 1. The shark is quieter while cleaning than the Roomba. 2. The shark is quieter while self emptying than the Roomba. 3. The shark senses furniture versus the Roomba will bump into furniture. 4. The shark did not leave any dog hair during the transition from hardwood floors to carpet and the shark did an overall better job sweeping of the hardwood floors. 5. The shark did a better job vacuuming into harder to reach areas such as under barstools, in and around tables. 6. The shark has two swivel brushes on each side of it versus the Roomba only has one swivel brush. 7. Both have very easy initial set up app use 8. The Roomba seemed to not be able to run during the night in the dark. It needs to have lights on. The shark does not require lights. 9. The AI shark ultra is less expensive. 10. I felt the shark did a better job mapping because it gets into more harder to reach areas. 11. Remember to select “resume” when battery runs low on your app otherwise it won’t finish It’s complete job. Overall, I liked the shark AI ultra much better!!!!!! I named my vacuum lifesaver because that’s exactly what the AI shark ultra is!!

Works ok but…
The vacuum works fine, but… The only way to access it is through the app and the app does not work. It keeps logging you out and does not remember your login and sometimes does not work at all. I called customer service and got a scripted and incorrect answer saying that there was a problem and they are fixing it within 24 hours when when you go online, there’s been a problem for a long time and it’s the same problem. I then got disconnected after being put on hold for quite a long time… I guess I’m gonna have to return my product which is a shame because I actually like it but if I can’t access it what’s the point .

Amazing
I LOVE!! I am a cleaning freak and this robot keeps up with my Labs shredding. He goes out everyday as scheduled and recharges if needed. Easy mapping. I turned on every possible light in my house, let it map, and it did it perfectly the first time. This robot is smart and does a great job. I highly recommend!

Great Product!
I’ve had my shark robot for 7 weeks and I think it’s the best! The matrix clean option does an excellent job on floors and is especially good for the carpeted areas, nearly as good as doing it myself. Needless to say, I’m never going back to vacuuming or mopping. The robot frees up my time to keep my home cleaner and healthier now that I don’t spend so much time and energy on the grunt work doing floors. The SharkClean App was a bit of a challenge at first, but I’ve learned how to use it properly and have no issues with it anymore. I found that the answers to the glitches I experienced using the App are all out there on the internet, but took a bit of time finding what I needed. I really can’t say enough good things about this product – it’s certainly a lot cheaper than hiring cleaning help. I wish it had been available 10 years ago!
Oksana K. –
Great helper
This is my first cleaning robot and I love how easy it is to set it up and all the app mapping features. I love that it can get to places the cleaning company couldn’t, like under the bed. I wish it could travel up and down the stairs. But since it doesn’t I am ordering another unit with the mopping feature for another floor. My house looks so much cleaner. Thanks!

Love this AI RoboVac
We’ve used a couple of RoboVacs in the past. They’ve been ok-ish. However when out last one died we opted to try another one. This Shark model being the one. 1st off the charging station and debris emptying function is awesome. So much better then doing it from the Vac itself which you can still do. 2nd this thing is actually smart, well smarter then out previous ones from other manufacturers. This one scans the area and goes in a grid like pattern. When battery is low which is after about 3/4’s our main floor it then promptly goes back home on its own. Charges for a period of time (about an hour)that will give it enough to finish the floor then goes back home to fully charged for the next day. My only 2 complaints (1 is just a nit pick preference really) is that, A) it only comes or came in white and doesn’t/didn’t have a black option, B) There is an option for off limits areas, however I’ve never seen it work. If the function doesn’t work don’t put the option there. Idk if this is just pur machine or the product line in general of this model. Other than that we thoroughly love this thing.

Kinda Pet Friendly
I guess it doesn’t matter how much you spend and what promises are made, no manufacturer has perfected a robot vacuum cleaner that is truly pet hair capable. I have a lab mix and he sheds like crazy. I have this scheduled to run daily. It still gets clogged up and is unable to evacuate pet hair into the dock which definitely defeats the purpose of self emptying! Very frustrating! I use my Shark Navigator Pro weekly as well to cut down on the amount of pet hair.

Came used
The vacuum arrived already used with dirt in the filter. The stickers were removed and stuck to the instructions. Making the instructions impossible to read.

Broken
I was so excited. Then I got the vacuum and it wouldn’t charge. Called Shark and they said it would take 3-4 weeks for a battery replacement and suggested I call Amazon. I called Amazon and they wouldn’t replace it. Just offered a return with a refund. I don’t want a refund. I want a vacuum. The vacuum seems to be well built.
Katie –
Great daily tool
We have had this for a few weeks and so far it has been great! Love the features for the self emptying and being able to map the areas to ensure that the vacuum does not get stuck in certain places. We got it on sale which made it a no brainer for us but is it worth the money. We mainly got it for our dog’s shedding and we run it daily for picking up her hair which has been super helpful!
J. Snider –
Excellent vacuum
This robo vacuum is fantastic! It is very powerful, learns your home layout, returns to the base and even empties itself out! I would highly recommend this vacuum, it is a great time saver!

Was great for the first year and a half! Then it broke and shark couldn’t help me because the warranty was out and said I had to buy a new one! Would leave the dock and stop tech suppose said it was the roller took the roller out same thing happened and then said they couldn’t help me
Tamara Ziegenbein –
Vacuum is good, App is horrible!
The app is horrible, it crashes almost everytime I open it. It’s not very user friendly and doesn’t have many options. Every time I went to scan the code to register the device it would say error saving. The vacuum itself is great although it does miss some spots or whole rooms but I’m hoping it’s due to mapping or user error because of app not being clear when making inital setup idk. Definitely needs more settings configurations. I can’t figure out how to matrix clean the whole house so I have to do it by room. Matrix clean does seem to get everything but is a pain to do each room separately. Also wish there was a second mapping for additional floor. As it seems now I may have to get another vacuum (although not sure it will be same model) but after coming home to a freshly vacuumed carpet, well 4 of the 5 rooms, is quickly becoming addictive and love the self emptying feature, 2 cleanings so far and its not even a quarter filled! I may never use another manual vacuum again. If they fixed the app I’d say 5 stars.

WORST ROBOT
After a few cleans he would complain about a cliff preventing him from cleaning when there wasn’t even a cliff ! Waste of money , I’m going for another company don’t waste ur money on this one !

Usually does a good job
We’ve had the Shark for about a month now, probably run it 10+ times, and when we tell it to clean it usually (probably 75% of the time) does a fine job. We are happy we got it and it does save us time. Pros 1. sweeps the house with little to no oversight. 2. Very quiet. Even when you are in the same room you can still easily have a conversation. I wouldn’t run it when I was trying to sleep, but much quieter than our manual vacuum. 3. Setup was easy. Found the wifie with no problems 4. No connectivity issues. This is great and a pleasant surprise based on other wifi appliances we have owned. 5. Mapping was adequate, if a little awkward. You only have to do it once so I count it a win! 6. Handles the carpets well. No problem getting onto and off of them. It struggles with the ledge into our kitchen which is probably a full inch but it always triumphs! Also no problem with going over electrical cords. 7. Nice low profile so it can get under pretty much all our furniture. This is a big win. 8. Dust bin is quite adequate for our house. Occasionally it will empty in the base in the middle of a clean but it takes right back up. We empty the base after each cleaning Cons 1. Battery life is adequate but barely. Our upstairs is a little less than 1200 ft and it can do it on one battery charge if nothing goes wrong, but if there is a hickup then you’re out of luck. 2. When it encounters an error it cannot restart from the point the error occurred. You have to restart from the beginning. 3. It sees our intake vent for our furnace as a cliff occasionally and will ask for assistance. This is the one error, however, which it recovers from gracefully and continues so it is really just a minor annoyance. 4. It seems to fail more often than I’d like. Either the rollers get clogged, or the dustbin on the unit gets clogged or something. One time it unplugged the base station during cleaning! As noted above if one of these errors occurs you have the fix the problem and start over, it won’t take up where it left off. 5. Mapping is awkward. I would like to make our furnace intake vent a no-go zone, but am not ready to try that with the mapping. It is cool to see it trundling around doing it’s job so earnestly. Table legs, kitchen ledges — it perseveres until it gets the job done!

Works Great
This vacuum collects the dirt and logically moves about the room well. It is very quiet. It does not bang into furniture, just slow and turns.
Lynn Milam –
Cleans great!
Really good mapping but it is a bit loud. Not enough for me to care. We have 2 dogs and I run it twice a day(set it to do it automatically) and it helps me so much.

Works Great and Quiet
Replaced an older type with the Shark. It is quiet, clean, and easy to maintain. These are perfect.

Disappointing Performance: Not Suitable for Family Homes
This product is not suitable for a family home or for anyone needing reliable assistance with cleaning. Why? • The app logs you out frequently—sometimes every other week or even less. • You often need to run it multiple times for it to pick up anything substantial. • It gets stuck easily and tends to ‘eat’ cables or other small objects, clogging the spinning brush and other parts. • It struggles with edges and completely misses corners. While it might work in an empty art museum with no obstructions on the floor, in a real home, it accomplishes very little. We ran it daily, sometimes more than once, but we still had to use a hand vacuum for any meaningful cleaning—especially before expecting guests. In the end, we gave up, disconnected it, and stored it in the garage. Conclusion: This is not a practical product for a busy or cluttered family home.

Great vacuum but be aware
So I ordered this vacuum in July of 2023 and have been very pleased with it, as I have two dogs that shed. It did get stuck a few times, but I ran it 3x a week and enjoyed coming home to a clean floor. Unfortunately while away on vacation recently, the robovac ran as scheduled and one of the dogs had diarrhea. It ran it all through the house and when I tried to “clean” it out of the machine, it was not going to happen. It was actually in the wheel area and mechanisms. I had tried to be diligent, but now I know better. I have seen other machines that can supposedly detect objects, including poo? I did not buy insurance, not that it would have been covered. I ended up having to throw it out. So just a lesson learned the hard way. If you have dogs be mindful that this machine is great, but not poop proof. Currently looking into a mop/vac type that has object avoidance?

Still going strong
Haven’t had any major issues or had to repair anything. Just routine cleaning as directed and cleaning out dust port or brushes on heavier vacuum days. Easy to use. Had it for over a year now and still love it.

does great on my hardwood and tile floors
it does better than i do with my upright vacuum. however, my one large area rug is only about 60% clean. i have two labs that shed all the time. i still clean the carpet every other day. that being said, im pleased with how it gets all the hard surfaces. it was pretty simple to set up the app and get it working.

Good vacuum, but has errors
I’ve had this product for about a year now, and it mostly works really well! It maps the room great, and is efficient, but lately it’s been producing errors. I keep getting error 2, stating that the side brush is stuck. I’ve cleaned all the brushes, but this error keeps popping up. It stops the product from running.

Best Addition For House With Pets
I love this vacuum. The mapping function works flawlessly, it avoids objects well and I love love the fact that it dumps itself. Mine runs daily and never have an issue. I love the way it patterns the floor. One thing I wish you could do is use the app on the phone to drive it.

What’s not to like?
I can always depend on Amazon reviews to point me in the right direction. I bought this unit to replace 2 older robot vacs from another brand that had served me well, but were just not cutting it anymore. Neither had the capability to empty their waste bin and keeping them running was getting to be a chore and an additional cost I was getting tired of funding. So, my first impressions of this Shark are pretty much in line with what most of the reviews said. I downloaded the app and after charging the battery and following the instructions had the vac map my house. I have a single story 2350 square foot home and the mapping took all of 15 minutes or so. I bypassed setting up separate rooms and turned the Shark loose to vacuum my entire house. The app advised me it would take 155 minutes and the actual time was 165 minutes. The vac returned to the dock twice to dump its load and once to recharge the battery. A pretty thorough inspection of the house told me I bought the right vacuum. I couldn’t find a single crumb or any dirt anywhere that the vac had missed which I could never claim with my 2 other units. Also, this unit is very quiet by comparison to what I’m used to. Contrary to what some people have said, the app worked flawlessly. I really cannot find anything to gripe about. It’s $299 very well spent.

Love it
I run it every day then it pick stuff up. I have a cat I used to have to vacuum every day now this thing when I’m sleeping, we can set a schedule for it. It runs on the song knows what it wants to do know where it goes and you could view what it does. It’s great.

Love, love, love
My mother got this for me for Christmas 2024 and I love it!! Every day I have it programmed to start cleaning at a specific time and I come home to see creases in my rugs from where my Shark had been!! We have (3) labs and (2) cats and you can imagine the dog ass /cat hair. With the Shark AI Ultra Voice Control Robot Vacuum note, I come home to a very clean house!!! Thank you!!

After a year
It worked perfectly for about 8 months. Now, either software glitches, vacuum won’t work unless frequently cleaned or AI believes it cleaned all rooms and stops after 5 minutes. I purchased a Dyson stick vacuum and i spend less time vacuuming floors than having vto service the shark.

Works
It gets off pattern and wanders sometimes

May as well do it yourself
AI Shark? Laughable. This thing makes the most bizarre routes and bumps into soo many things after it has ‘learned’ the home. Watching it ‘work’ is cringeworthy. Save you money

Works very well
This is a huge time saver for pet owners. It is great at picking up all the hair/dirt my big dogs bring into the house.

Stopped working, shark replaced it immediately
Don’t usually write reviews. I usually read reviews but on this one but my wife this vacuum cuz she really enjoyed my parents’s she wanted one. Got it. Did the setup it mapped the house, and then started cleaning and then one of the brush motors went out. Called customer service. I was on the phone for maybe 5 minutes and they are sending me a brand new One. Reason I gave it five stars is the customer service is the best I’ve experienced in some years. Easy to communicate with. Knew exactly what was up, said We’re going to send one right out to you. Great experience. I’ll be buying more shark ninja products in the future.

Self Empty and Mapping is a must!
Ive had other robot vacuum’s before and spending the extra money for home mapping and self empty is 100% worth it!! I was able to get this one almost half off for black Friday. Worth the wait!

Try a different brand
My first robot vacuum was a roborock. It did a good job, but 3 years in, I decided I wanted to try to upgrade to a shark. Or…I thought it was an upgrade. Honestly, it didn’t do as good a job and 2 years and10 months in and now it has an issue with the side brushes and cpu. It is saying that the side brushes aren’t working. I tried trouble shooting it on my own then spent 20 minutes on the phone waiting for customer service to pick up and another 20 minutes with Customer service from shark. And they said that the best they could do would be to sell me a new one for 50% off their price, which was still $100 more than what It is on Amazon right now. I used to be a loyal shark buyer, but that is no longer the case. I’m going back to roborock.

Clean floors
It was pretty simple to map the house. It makes cleaning easy and does a good job of cleaning our floors.
