How Does the Wireless android auto car adapter Measure Up? Assessing Its Gains and Losses
Effortless and Reliable Connection: Many users, including Bill Ledbetter and TB, praise the Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter for its “Easy to install and use” capability, offering a seamless and wireless connection to the car’s display. Bill found the small size advantageous as it allowed him to “hide it in the storage compartment in the dash”, while TB was relieved to “no longer have to manually unlock my phone to use Android Auto”, finding it connected “flawlessly” every time after an initial setup.
High Compatibility and Convenience: Users like Khaled Elajam and Dave experienced consistent connectivity, with Khaled stating it “connects every single time with no drops or lag”, and Dave confirming that it “works perfectly” with multiple vehicles. This suggests the device’s compatibility with a range of car models and its reliability for maintaining a stable connection, significantly improving the driving experience by offering a cable-free solution.
Enhanced User Experience: Customers such as Danny and S. Roe found the device to significantly enhance their in-car tech interaction. Danny noted it was “well worth it for how well it works. Bulletproof!”, and S. Roe expressed delight at the convenience, stating, “It was so easy getting in the car later and voila…connected.” These experiences underline the adapter’s value in delivering a hassle-free user experience.
Connection and Durability Issues: Some users report connection stability problems and a limited lifespan. Jorge Andres Arenas describes his adapter as having turned into “just a brick” after 8 months of use, while Booger Goo experienced it “stops working after a year”. These reviews raise concerns about the device’s reliability over time and its susceptibility to connectivity issues.
Inconvenience and Compatibility Challenges: Despite the positive aspects, there are reports of the adapter not functioning as expected for all users. JR finds it “useless for drives under 15 min” due to the slow startup time, while K9dopecop points out a significant limitation, stating the device “requires VPN to be disabled”, which might be a deal-breaker for privacy-conscious users or those who rely on VPNs for work.
The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
After issues with the initial setup I was going to return it. Gave it another try glad I did. Work really well the setup take a little bite of time to get going but once it does your good. I do have an occasional and sort time issue when it losses Bluetooth connection with phone will reconnect quickly and your back a running. I would recommend that if you are going to get watch a few videos online to help with setup and be patient.
Works great when it finally connects, unfortunately i live in a small town and am at my destination 95% of the time before it finally connects…….useless for drives under 15 min.
Understanding More: Questions Answered and Explained
What is the Motorola MA1, and how does it work? The Motorola MA1 is a wireless car adapter that allows you to connect your smartphone to your car’s display without the need for cables. It’s a direct plug-in USB adapter that uses Wi-Fi to communicate with your phone, enabling you to access Android Auto wirelessly. Once plugged into your car’s USB port, the adapter pairs with your phone, and Android Auto starts automatically when you start your car, giving you access to navigation, music, and more.
Is the adapter compatible with all cars and smartphones? The adapter is designed to work with any car that has Android Auto support and a USB port. However, it is important to note that the car must have Android Auto capabilities. As for smartphones, it works with most Android phones that support Android Auto. It is recommended to check the compatibility with your specific car model and smartphone before purchasing.
How do I set up the adapter in my car?Setting up the adapter is straightforward. You plug it into your car’s USB port designated for Android Auto, pair it with your smartphone via Wi-Fi, and follow any on-screen instructions. The device typically pairs automatically once the initial setup is done, so you don’t need to reconnect manually every time.
Does the Motorola MA1 adapter require a power source? The adapter is powered through the USB port in your car. There’s no need for an external power source or battery. As long as your car is running or the accessory mode is on, the adapter will be powered and functional.
Can I still use my car’s USB port for charging while using the adapter? While the adapter occupies the USB port it’s plugged into, it typically does not prevent you from charging your phone. Many cars have multiple USB ports, so you can use another port for charging. If there is only one port, some users opt for a USB splitter or hub to retain charging capabilities alongside the adapter’s functionality.
What happens if I receive a call while using the adapter? When you receive a call, Android Auto will handle it just like it would with a wired connection. The call interface will appear on your car’s screen, and you can answer using the car’s controls. Your music or navigation will pause or lower in volume, and resume once the call is finished.
Is there any latency or delay when using the adapter for navigation or music? The adapter is designed to offer a seamless and responsive experience. There should be minimal latency or delay when using apps for navigation or music streaming. However, the performance can be influenced by factors like the smartphone’s processing power, the car’s head unit capabilities, and the quality of the Wi-Fi connection between the adapter and the phone.

Easy to use but high failure rate?
I purchased one of these about 14 months ago. They’re super easy to use because they require very little setup and don’t need an extra app on your phone. Just plug it in, connect to it with bluetooth, and you’re good to go. The downside is mine stopped working after 14 months which is 2 months outside of the 1 year warranty. It got stuck in a bootloop and no amount of factory resetting would fix it. After looking online for help this seems to be an issue others are experiencing as well and Motorola’s tech supports best recommendation is to just buy another one. I decided to buy another, hopefully whatever issue was plaguing last years models has been resolved and this one will last.

Works Perfectly After 5+ Months!!
I recently upgraded my phone to the new Pixel 7 Pro and as these new phones use USB-C to a USB-C cables, I was struggling to use my original cable to connect my phone into my 2018 Honda CR-V that does not have USB-C plugs. I was skeptical if this product would even work or even stay connected. I’ve been using this for over 5 months now and it is still working perfectly. I love the ease of my phone connecting to Android Auto with no cables when I get into my car. The price is a bit steep, but for the convenience, it’s definitely worth it!

Works as intended and easy set up
It takes away the cords but still allows me the ability to use Android Auto. I actually think it’s better. Delivered quickly
Jmdragon –
No more wires
Experienced some ‘skipping’ when playing music.

Amazing Dongle
My only regret is not finding this thing sooner. I’ve had wired connection issues since I installed this Boss stereo in my Ford F-150. First I thought the cord was the issue, then I thought it was my phone, but then I upgraded phones and still had Android Auto disconnecting all the time and crashing the gpu in my stereo. It has been a nightmare since I use my navigation for work on a daily basis. This thing is a lifesaver! I haven’t had AA crash a single time since I started using it.

1 fault
this adapter is great if your car does not already have wireless android auto. the complaint i have is if you have your bluetooth active on your phone when you start your car the adapter will connect to your phone within seconds. good right? yes and no. if you try to take your phone out of bluetooth, the adapter will force it to the ON position again. you have to either unplug the adapter or turn your car off, turn off bluetooth on your phone and restart the car. a little annoying at times.
Joshua Gray –
It just works
After much research I went with this wireless option for Android auto and am thoroughly pleased with it. It has cut off on me a couple of times over the course of a few months, but honestly I think it is just the fact that my usb in the car is a little loose.

It works
Excellent and works as described.

Fixed my problem
I’ve had my car three years and unable to connect to display and this did the job…Just what I needed
Brad H –
Why did I wait?
It’s so nice to not have to plug in the phone. Takes about 25-30 seconds for Android Auto to start. Leave your phone in your pocket or your purse.
Torsten –
Slow, screen freezed, disconnects once overheats
Works great initially. After a little while, the car’s screen will freeze. After a few hours, it gets hot and starts disconnecting, which was the original problem I was trying to resolve with this cable. I ultimately found an Android Auto cable that works perfectly, so I no longer use this wireless device.
Don –
It works
Bought this because I was getting tired of constantly having to plug in my phone for Android auto to work. It took about 5 minutes to get set up and working and I have not had any issues since. Been using this for about 6 months now.
Amazon Customer –
Very easy to use
Very very easy to setup and use, amazingly so. Takes about 30 seconds to start after car is turned on, not a negative in any way. Motorola got this adapter right. Lack of a removable USB cable is a negative and makes it hard to position, I can overlook this for my purposes.

Perfect!
Perfect product. Worked flawlessly as soon as got it paired and turned the wifi on one my phone. I’m using this in my 2021 Silverado Trailboss because the charging port on my galaxy S20 Ultra is going bad after 3 years.
Kindle Customer –
Not Impressed
Worked great for the first couple weeks then started cutting out. Could see maps struggling to load and audio would drop every few seconds. This was occasional at first, but it got to the point of making the device unusable. I tried re-pairing my phone and nothing changed. Used in a 2020 Subaru WRX.
David Flower –
Stopped working
Someone else just reviewed and said they bought in January and it just stopped working. I bought two in January, one stopped working. I confirmed it’s not the phone or a setup issue, the same troubleshooting and resetting tips works on one, but not the other.
Andrew –
Works well most of the time
Most of the time this works no problem. But every once in a while it won’t connect and you have to re connect it to your phone manually again. Once it gets connected it stays connected most of the time. Sometimes it will lose connection and I have to unplug and plug it back in.
SpaceManSpiff –
Works perfectly.
Always connects, never drops, and works well. I do have to turn my volume up a bit, but otherwise zero issues at all.
Henry Leirvoll –
I am giving it full star-pot even though it isn’t perfect.
It is perfect for what I expect it to do, and that is connect my phone through wifi to a car that doesn’t have wifi from before. It does have its quirks and glitches, but you figure them out quickly and know when to expect them and how to deal with that. For that absolute most part, it works flawlessly so I am very happy. Sure, using a cable is technically better, but then other problems occur. Now I keep my phone in my pocket, and everything connects automatically, and I just drive and smile with Waze on my car and other things.
Daniel O –
Just okay.
Well it died. It lived in my center compartment for all it’s life and just stopped working. There was always quite a bit of lag between audio and video. Every 3 minutes or so audio would cut out for a split second. Seemed like a handshake issue. Don’t like that it was never really configurable. Will be getting AAWireless to replace.

Stopped Working After 6 Months
I bought this Motorola MA1 Android Auto adapter back in January 2023 and as of early July 2023 the adapter is no longer working. I have tried all of the troubleshooting steps but the adapter is no longer connecting my phone to my 2018 F150. It is frustrating that something that was $90 would stop working so quickly so I would not recommend this adapter for anyone else. Support is very poor as well as I am within the warranty period and there is just no response. The convenience of the wireless adapter is nice but the build quality is clearly poor as you’ll see multiple complaints of a similar nature that the adapter fails after a few months.

Nice solution for people don’t like their mobile always stucked with the cable for android auto
Stable connection Easy simple setup Adequate size for adapter Highly recommended
JSG –
Lasted less than 18 months
Bought when it first came out, $99. Had connection issues routinely. Finally quit working, less than 18 months old. Went back to cable. No connection issues now…
Amazon Customer –
Only works with Android 12 or later
Works fine now that I upgraded to a newer model Motorola phone!
Travis Sorey –
Almost worth it
I really like it when it works. However it constantly freezes when driving. So if need it for gps I wouldn’t get it. But so far no issues with music
Michael Haire –
Connects effortlessly
Work really well with my Boss head unit in my truck. Fast and easy to use.
JJMC –
Worked great for 16 months then died
This product worked great for the last 16 months. I have a feeling this summers heat has killed the unit. During power up it just runs solid White light, green light flash, solid white light, green light flash – forever repeating. No amount of resetting helps it. This issue is occurring with other people I see here who bought it when it first came out. I gave it 3 stars just because it worked properly for 16 months, but now its out of warranty (1yr). I think it should have lasted longer for the price.
BDS –
Short lifespan = Ripoff
Solved my connectivity problems flawlessly… only to suddenly stop working, permanently, after just two months. Essentially it was a temporary, $10/week solution. Won’t buy another unless they add a 1-year warranty. Believe the mounting number of reviews that explain this exact issue.
Eric –
Works great!
I was getting so frustrated with breaking and just dealing with the cords in general. This took less than 5 minutes to install and I haven’t had any issues with it since.
Jim Lee –
Better instructions
I like it because it connects fast and is tiny compaired to others. The only thing I wish they had was better instructions when it comes to switching from one device to another. Sometimes you have to restart your vehicle to get it to connect to your other phone which is a pain if your passenger needs to connect their phone.
Erwin Carmona Brenes –
Not what you expect as far as “wireless”
It hooks up automatically and fast, and its very cool to have you android auto wireless, BUT the major but is that it drains so fast your battery than when you realize you have to plug your phone to the car charger usb port, so then it misses the point of “wireless” because oyour phone ends up wired to your car. So overall high price vs advantages is over the top, it doesnt make up.
Zounds –
A must-have for Android Auto wired connection
Ok it’s a little slow to start up but it’s still better than fumbling to connect a usb cable each time. In fact it’s become one of those things that if I were to lose it I’d buy another. If you have a wired Android Auto set up, particularly a Honda offering, you’ll be pleased with this thing. I know I am.

Works Flawlessly
I have a ’18 Acura MDX and this works great with the whole family’s phones. Recently had a new model service loaner, and the thing I liked the most was wireless android auto. This was thousands less than trading in my car. It’s a simple quality of life thing. I appreciate how seamlessly my stuff shows up on my car screen, even with my phone still in my pocket. And when I need to charge I can do it fast with my PD car charger instead of the trickle charge you get from the USB data cord. Treat yourself.

Love it
Easiest plug-and-play adapter.

Not worth it long term.
I’ve had this for about more than 6 months now. It was great for a while and now it constantly overheats after about 15 minutes or so driving.
ClydeEMIII –
Worked great until it didn’twork at all.
It worked flawlessly for EXACTLY 6 mths. I received it on 01/23/2023. IT TOTALLY CRAPPED OUT 6/23/2023. I kept it plugged in. However, it was always kept out of the sun so it would’t bake in direct sunlight. I verified my connection to my car wired & it works just fine. Unpaired it from my phone & it would not re-pair. I plugged it into my computer to get it to pair & I was able to pair it that way but when I put back in my car_ NO CONNECTION…… PISSED to say the least…..

Junk and terrible customer service
After 6 months the MA1 stopped working. Motorola’s customer service must be the worst I’ve ever dealt with. First tried live chat and no one ever answered. I called and was hung up on. I then came again and was given another number to call, in which, you listen to a message directing you to go to live chat because you first must get a case number to proceed. Amazon could do anything for because I was passed the window for return or replacement. I’ll never anything from Motorola again.

Once I got it to connect it was great.
It took a while for it to connect to my phone. I kept struggling with it’s Bluetooth. Once I finally got it connected its been great. Takes about 20-30 seconds after turning on my truck and it connects and its all hands free. It also seems to let my steering wheel controls function better with my aftermarket stereo too. Not sure why it does that but it’s a bonus. Be patient with the Bluetooth process it should work eventually.
Amazon Customer –
Worked for less than a year.
This worked well for 7 months. On one hot summers day, it bite the dust. The thing gets hot and when it failed it was like a molten brick. If stored in a glove box or sealed area it will overheat and fail on you.
Artem –
Good product. I like it.
No many words to say about it. It just helps to forget about using of a USB-cable. Great device for a little of money. No any problem with my Samsung S22.
Lonnie Uptegrow –
Worked as described!!
This thing is a game changer for me. No more having to connect the wire just to use Android Auto. All I have to do is get in the car and go. So far this thing has worked like a charm. I have only had to unplug it and plug it back in twice in the several months I have owned it. Not sure it is the devices fault or my car trying to establish a connection to my phone at the same time this is. Either way I would buy it again in a heart beat and better yet, if my future vehicle doesn’t come with wireless android auto then you better believe I’m bringing this with me.

A Game Changer
After using a USB cable of dubious quality and intermittent connections, this is definitely the way to go. I have a 2014 GMC which did not come equipped for Android auto or Car Play. I purchased an aftermarket unit which plugs into the radio module under the dash and have been using a short USB cable plugged into that unit and running though and out of the glove box for 2 or 3 years. I was on the verge of getting an aftermarket head unit with the AA and CarPlay capabilities, but didn’t want to spend over $1K for one. I didn’t need a customizable screen layout or a phone app., so this adapter fit my needs and budget. After reading the reviews, i took a chance on this adapter, not knowing if it would work with the module I have. It took longer to remove and replace the glove box than it took to go through the setup procedure and get it working. As of day 1, the adapter performs perfectly and works perfectly. It takes very little time to boot and connect. I only used the module with the USB cable occasionally as I had to run the cable out of the glove box to plug it in. The connection was intermittent at best and I constantly had to wiggle the cable to reconnect. Now that this Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter is installed, it will be part of my every drives. Huge bang for the buck.

Wow & Easy to setup!
This wireless Android auto device by Moto just arrived and it was super easy to setup. My phone is a Google Pixel 6 Pro and my new car is a 2024 Kia Seltos SX.
Brian D –
Good with issues
Use it for my 2020 ram. It’s good for short drives. But once I do a trip, 1hr+ it starts to shut on and off.
Alexander Campbell –
It stopped working the very first day
I received the adapter this morning, set it up, everything was working fine. By the afternoon it no longer has power when plugged in, just completely dead with no light. My wired connections still work out of the same USB socket so it is definitely an issue with the adapter itself. I got about 4 hours of use out of it which is such a comically small amount of time I couldn’t even make that up if I tried. Disappointed is an understatement so I’m going to ask for a replacement and we’ll see if the new one works. Hopefully for longer than 4 hours, too.
Calin Inescu –
Problem solved.
I had problems at first, but after uninstalling Android Auto and reinstalling it, everything works perfectly. I will return with information depending on how it will work in the next period.
