Product Breakdown: The Promises and Pitfalls
The Roomba J6+ has been well-received by many customers for its convenience and performance. Several users have expressed satisfaction with the device’s ease of setup and operation. As one user put it, “Easy to set up and works great!” and another confirmed that the self-emptying feature is a significant plus, saying, “I didn’t realize how well the self-emptying feature would work!” The quiet operation, especially compared to older models, is another point of praise. A user mentioned, “Love how much more quiet it is than the 980.” This makes it easier to run the Roomba without disturbing daily activities, like watching TV.
Users are impressed with the technological advancements, noting that the Roomba remembered the layout of their home even after an upgrade, which showcases the smart mapping capabilities of the device. The ability to handle pet fur has been a game-changer for some, with one user exclaiming, “This purchase was a life changer for my family,” as it kept up with their lab’s daily shedding. Another user described it as “Fantastic,” highlighting the device’s ability to navigate and clean different rooms according to a set schedule.
Moreover, the vacuum’s capability to avoid obstacles and notify the user of temporary obstructions has been appreciated. Users enjoy receiving notifications and pictures of their pets blocking the path, as it adds a level of interaction and ensures that the Roomba can navigate effectively around the house.
Despite the positive feedback, some users have reported drawbacks with the Roomba J6+. One of the most common complaints is about the noise level, as one user described, “feels like the suction is not strong enough and this thing is loud. very very loud.” Additionally, issues with customer service have been highlighted by users, including difficulty connecting to Wi-Fi and inadequate assistance from support, with one customer saying, “They never got back to me despite my reaching out repeatedly.”
The device’s performance consistency has also been questioned by some. One user found the vacuum to be “Inconsistent” in its cleaning and emptying patterns. The rollers seem to be sensitive to pet hair, which could pose a problem for households with pets, as it may require frequent cleaning or roller replacement. For some, the Roomba J6+ doesn’t clean corners effectively or pick up larger particles like cereal, which was noted as a limitation by a user.
Navigation issues have been another point of contention. A few users have experienced problems with the Roomba’s mapping capabilities, where it either missed rooms or struggled to navigate out of an empty room, leading to a comment that it “Can’t even navigate its way out of an empty room.” Additionally, the product seems to struggle with long pet hair, as one user found that it would leave “little rolls of dog hair” behind, indicating that it may not be suitable for all types of pet fur.
In conclusion, while the Roomba J6+ appears to be a technological marvel for many, with smart mapping, quiet operation, and self-emptying features that users love, there are notable concerns about its noise level, customer service, consistency in performance, and navigation. These issues might need to be weighed against the convenience and ease of use that the Roomba J6+ otherwise offers.

People find the following negative one quite helpful. Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2023 by Linda M. Mcintosh, titled “Inconsistent”
The first day the vacuum was loud and had lots of suction. The next day it was noticeably quieter. I watched several videos on how to clean and troubleshoot. iRobot suggested I call Amazon to return or replace it. She said it would save me the trouble of sending it back for warranty work. ??? It does work but I can go behind it and swipe the floor and there is still a little dirt. It spends a lot of time under the bed and couches and not a lot in the open areas. It is inconsistent in emptying the bid. Yesterday it sent pictures of objects it wanted to know it it was a temporary obstacle or not. I’ve had it 10 days and that is the first time it’s done that. Funny to see pictures of your animals blocking its path.

I would rather have this than not have it
I deliberated buying this for a while. I live in a rural area and I have two Irish Setters. That means lots of dust and dirt gets tracked into the house. Prior to purchasing the iRobot, I had to vacuum every day, which I didn’t love. The first several weeks this worked amazing. I LOVED my Roomba. It was life transforming. Maybe a month into owning it, it has just become a very high-maintenance machine. My husband and I have started referring to it as our “toddler.” It constantly needs maintenance. The brushes need cleaned, the dust bin needs to be cleaned out (even though it is supposed to self-dumping), the sensors need to be cleaned, it is stuck … the list goes on and on. I literally have to take this thing apart at least once a week and clean it. I do not HATE it but absolutely do not LOVE it. The best review I can give is that I would rather have it than not have it. But it honestly drives me bonkers.

POS
I bought the roomba and it probably worked a month and then quit. During holidays it sat silent as I didn’t have time to address. Once I did, even roomba customer service couldn’t help and escalated to tech support. Received a letter they’d be in touch in X days. Been weeks and I’ve heard NOTHING!!! Worse $400 ever spent. Absolutely NO customer service. Return date was 30 days. Just about how long it worked!!!

Too loud
We are very disappointed in the iRobot. The machine at first was acceptable noise wise however after 3 months use it has become annoyingly loud. We have it set to clean the whole house however it keeps returning to areas it already cleaned. Would not purchase again for the price.

Object Detection Feature is the only thing that works.
So the object detection is about the only positive this vacuum has. The vacuum doesn’t pick up hardly anything and doesn’t get any pet hair. We have had it for a couple months and the base isn’t even 1/3 full. Mainly because we still have to use a normal vacuum at least twice a week if we want to keep on top of it. Our prior unit was a Shark and the only reason for the change was the base station. Because we have pets, we run it pretty much daily to keep up with dog hair. The shark’s canister had to be emptied each day. We got this unit thinking even if the base fills up once a week that is easier than trying to remember each day. We should have gone with another shark. This unit also requires much more expensive upkeep. The prescreen in the onboard canister is useless as most dust/dirt makes it through to clog the filter, which then requires cleaning almost daily(getting back to the daily thing), emptying at the base station doesn’t clean the filter or the screen. I have already had to replace the filter and the side bristles which seems a bit extreme to me. Overall, the object detection works, but I think that’s mainly because the rest just doesn’t work well so they have to have a gimmick to keep getting customers. Also note this vacuum will tear up your baseboards and furniture, it runs into stationary type things at full speed, but random objects in the room it misses…

Why didn’t I buy this sooner!
Life saver. Works great and very easy to setup and program.

Requires More Attention than Manual Vacuuming
Should be a 0 star ratting. Does a decent job cleaning. Will not empty bin in base station. Avoid!!!!’ Tired of Roomba unfulfilled promises! Buy a Dyson vacuum and do it yourself. Roomba is all hype!

Decent vacuum, but there is far better out there.
Decent vacuum, but only worth it if you get it on sale . The battery could be way better. Currently calling customer service to see if they can upgrade my battery. If they can, I will update and give more stars. Frustrating it takes 4 hours for a 2,000 square foot area.

Love!
The self emptying feature is a game changer! I love this Roomba! I’ve been using it since October & am very pleased. Just had to change the bag for the first time with 3-4 times per week use of my upstairs – about 1000 square feet. It is somewhat noisy but other than that (much quieter than a regular vacuum lol), no complaints.

I never knew I needed one of these guys…
I thought this was an extravagant luxury and I thought it was too bougie for me to have one. My friend suggested I get one so I tried it. We have a huge tile floor section of our house, it’s about 85% tile. My wife and I run the dust mop and a wet mop about a few times a month. It takes us a good half day to get it knocked out. Since using the robot, we have cut that in half. I was never aware of how much dust and hair be both shed in this house. I thought we had a Labrador living with us. I found this out after the first robot sweep. I dusted off the machine flipped it over and saw all of the cars stuck to the axels. I cleaned it all off and dusted the machine. I examined the contents of the vacuum bag, and was shocked by the amount of dust and hair it found. Each subsequent sweep by the robot turned up less and less, so the maintenance provided by the robot is noticeable. Our house is about 2,000 sq feet, so the robot does about half of the house and then returns to base to recharge, and then when it is charged, it will finish. I wish it could last the entire time on 1 charge, but it’s not that big of a deal. Removing the cords and shoes from laying around in the path of the robot, makes foe a cleaner house, but sometimes annoys me. I keep the robot well cared for. After each session, I flip to over and check the undercarriage to make sure there is nothing clogging the axels and I dust it off. The app is pretty cool, this model takes photos of stuff in its way so you can move it, or change the path of the robot. The app is pretty easy to interface with, you don’t need to be a NASA engineer to use it. I did buy a spare parts kit for rollers and brushes and on board filters (I guess that’s hoe they get you to buy more stuff of it) but I assume at some point I will be taking this robot apart to replace the rollers and brushes at some point. Overall, I am happy I bought it, I never realized how much dust was under the couches and the beds. The hair, my god, my wife sheds!!! So this machine was well worth it. It did cost a few bucks, But I waited for a prime sale, and I made sure to do my research and read the reviews and watched the YouTube reviews as well. Good luck with your purchase..

Excellent device to keep our floors clean.
Perfect device to keep our single level 1600 sqft house clean. We let it clean while we are at work. Was easy to setup and program. Highly recommend. We have hardwood flooring with area rugs. Keeps the dust down in the house. One less chore for us to do.

Gift for Mom
This robot was a gift for my mom who doesn’t need to spend her time vacuuming. She named her Rosie! Four out of five stars because we’ve had some issues once we initially got her set up. Her empty bin bag throws an error code about once a week that we need to change the bag. The bag is not full and does not need to be changed. I have also gone through all of the steps to ensure that it’s not clogged anywhere. Calling to get support is rough, expect to be on hold at least 60 to 240 minutes. I finally gave up, the robot apart, and checked all of the hardware pieces, blew everything out with an heavy duty air compressor and put it back together. Still experiencing an error code randomly, but for the most part, everything’s working well.

Absolute garbage. Spend the money for a better brand
Too many things wrong with this piece of junk to mention here. But quickly: Has NEVER done a full job in the way I ask it to. Again, too many random error messages to note here, just know it’s several different problems. No option to keep it from auto emptying. Which means I’m unable to vacuum overnight, because it is so loud when it empties it wakes up everyone in the house. Would be solved with a simple option to not auto empty. Randomly ends all jobs early, with made up, in accurate reasons. Spend the money for a Eufy or Roborock.

3 husky house!
I am loving this roomba! We had an old version that just mostly moved hair around on carpet but this thing picks it up so so well! We have 3 huskies and i am honestly so impressed. I have it scheduled to run everyday and I don’t even need to vacuum. Our house is mostly carpet too, except for the kitchen and bathroom. I’m so happy with this purchase!

Great quality
I got this on sale for my mother as a Christmas gift. I was surprised at how high quality it felt taking it and the base out of the box. Setup is very straightforward and easy. The app seems to have everything in it as well. You can connect it to smart home devices like Alexa and it even has a store section in the app to order parts, filters, etc.

No suction power
Leaves behind the simplest things like lent or fuzz from blankets does not clean well at all.
Mark Waldron –
Dumb pos engineers need fired.
It is absolutely ridiculous that I spent $700 for a p.o.s. that can’t find its way back home for recharging. Whoever decided that the app shouldn’t have the ability to guide the roomba like a remote control needs to be fired.

Quality issues
I bout this vacuum in October. I haven’t been able to use it much due to being busier than usual this time of year. I’ve probably only used it 6-8 times so far. I went to use it today in my bedroom and noticed the whole sweeper arm is missing. I’d say that’s an issue for a machine I’ve used less than 10 times so far. Really disappointed in this purchase and would not recommend this vacuum to anyone.
Rachel –
Life changer
As a pet owner, this product has changed my life. Saves me so much time and the only thing keeping my home from being overrun with fur. Leaves a lot to be desired on area rugs as it sort of pulls up fur and leaves it in clumps, but perfect on bare floors. The side spinning edger brush tends to wind up fur and hair under the casing and stops spinning without warning until you remove and clear out, but otherwise this model is a huge improvement and doesn’t need nearly as much regular maintenance as past models whose brushes had to be removed and cleared every time it ran.

Love this vacuum
We are so in love with this vacuum cleaner. It is amazing. We call this one Hank and Hank is a worker and a 1/2. He’s smart, he avoids cables, he avoids cat puke. He is the most amazing self-cleaning robot I’ve ever owned and i’ve owned a few and I love this one. Also bought for my mom. Recommend!!!!

Roomba’s are great – this seller is not
I am not sure why I am even taking the time to write this, because Amazon will not post it. I bought an open box item from Slick Returns and the item did not operate correctly. When I received it, the original box was torn apart. The battery did not last long and it would not map right. I have a Roomba that was older, but wanted to upgrade. I bought both my children new roombas for Christmas so I thought getting an open box deal would be ok for me. It was not. Now I will have to wait 30 days for a return. I am in the process of disputing this on my CC. Amazon customer service is sadly lacking.

Ours arrived broken and we are still waiting for a replacement 2 months later
We have owned other models of the Roomba and wanted an upgrade. It arrived broken and we have been mailing various parts back ever since. It still has not worked and we are still waiting for parts. They strung us along so long that we missed the replacement window. I can not recommend the j6. Save yourself time and money and order something else.

Horrible product…do not order.
After a month, the iRobot wouldn’t connect to my WiFi. Went through 48 hours of troubleshooting with the iRobot customer service department and they were supposed to send another robot and they didn’t. I had to call after 5 days of not receiving the new unit and the new robot arrived. After setting up the new robot, it never connected to the old docking station!!! Why in the hell didn’t they just send me a completely different docking station as well!! INFURIATING! It’s getting sent back ASAP. Get a Shark product. Don’t waste your time on this junk.

3 Dogs (German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, and Border Collie) and IT IS AWESOME!
I’ve had other robot vacuums but the long hair from my golden always caused issues where I had to tend to the vacuum almost every day. Not anymore! It vacuums 1x a day minimum. The self empty option is fantastic and it really gets it all out of there. The bag does not fill up fast, either. It did not need a new bag for about a month and a half. It learns quickly. It has created its own cute little pattern for how it cleans around certain items and it is great. No issues with it recognizing objects; it takes a picture of the object and I can review it later. But, with all the dog toys, no issues and we can leave it out. I like how the app tells me what the vacuum needs (I.e. new bag, new filter, etc.). I can finally say that a robot vacuum brings value to our lives as we don’t need to vacuum little tufts of hair each day.

Love, love, love my renegade robot!
I love my Roomba! I will never be without one again. I love to get home from work to find all the vacuuming done and in such an orderly manner.

Major upgrade
Replace my iRobot that did not self empty which I bought pre Chocolate Lab. This is a major upgrade, had to empty the old one after every use (3 times a week) and sometimes twice so it could finish. Now, I just let him do his thing, much quieter too!

Did not pick up debris
I wanted to replace my 2017 debot (which still works great) because I couldn’t program to my phone the app is old & doesn’t pair. This seemed like it would be great, but it nearly pushed dog hair around and didn’t pick up well. I spent 2 weeks trouble shooting, couldn’t get it to pick up very much. AMAZON did refund after a little bit of push back. I had video showing the 2 vacuuming side by side to prove it didn’t pick anything up.

Cannot be run in low light
We often schedule our vacuums to be run at night after everyone is asleep. This one cannot run at night effectively and produces errors that say it doesn’t have enough light to operate since it only uses the camera to navigate and not Lidar. – pluses: good at obstacle avoidance, nice looking, smaller dock size – cons: cannot operate in low light, extremely loud at dock empty, no ability to see where the robot is on map during cleaning and map doesn’t actively show cleaning cycle, pick up on hard floors was below average Overall this is not a good option in comparison to the roborocks I have owned.

top 5 least favorite purchase of all time
if this worked, it could be great; however its constant issues make it an expensive piece of garbage. it completes a vacuuming job about 1 out of every 5 times. those other 4 times, it needs to be cleaned or it simply “couldn’t start the job.” this is a notification i have become very familiar with. it constantly gets stuck with dog hair. it gets stuck in random places throughout the house where there are no real obstacles. i cannot count on this device to do what it is supposed to do, so it is effectively useless.

Great addition
Very glad we ordered this. We have two jerk cats who kick out half the box, a litter robot (pretty litter), and hardwood floors. I felt like I was doing nothing but sweeping. Adding this and setting the routines up, has immensely helped. Well worth the money for me, especially with a lot of my disabilities.

Expensive paperweight
Worked fantastic out of the box. Unfortunately it lasted a very short time. I was gone for a week, came home and updated my router. Added all of my electronics back onto my wifi with no problems except for this Roomba. I have tried EVERYTHING suggested out there. I have talked with IRobot support (whole other ordeal which took 2 days to talk to someone) who had no idea how to fix it. Now I’ve been waiting for 3 days (after talking to support) for their wifi specialists to get in touch and haven’t heard a thing. I will not change my rating until it’s fixed or replaced. Extremely disappointed in their customer support.

Don’t buy from amazon
Don’t buy this product from Amazon. I had it for 2 months and it broke. The spinning brush stopped spinning. I did everything I could to troubleshoot and it’s still wouldn’t spin. It’s 1 month to the date past my return window and Amazon wouldn’t help me. They wanted me to pay an $80 return fee. If I had bought this at Costco they would have taken it back with no problem. I am not buying expensive products from Amazon anymore due to this issue.

Side brush problems
Worked almost 2 months then the rotating side brush started to stop sometimes. Searched the internet and found that seems to be a Roomba problem. So I took brush off and cleaned underneath the brush which appeared to help for about 10 minutes then the brush quit totally. We do not have any pets and only a small area rug so I don’t think we stressed the brush too much.

Replacement for another model that ate the poop…
Our beloved RoboRock met an untimely demise after failing to detect and avoid a rather unfortunate “gift” left behind by our senior dog. Let’s just say, the aftermath was nothing short of spectacular, and the RoboRock, despite my initial fondness for it, was promptly retired from duty. Enter our new savior, the Roomba, equipped with the latest poop-detecting technology, promising to navigate around these unexpected landmines. While the jury is still out (thankfully, no accidents have occurred thus far), I find solace in Roomba’s generous POOP warranty. If, within the first year, the Roomba fails to avert a poop-related disaster and decides to smear it all over the place instead, the company will graciously replace it for free. I’ll keep you posted on whether this warranty ever comes into play. Stay tuned for more updates! In the meantime, I’m cautiously optimistic that our Roomba will live up to its promises and keep our living room sparkly clean. It’s a great replacement!

Does an ok job
After a few days of crazy mapping, it finally completed a good map of the house. I have sent it off to do specific rooms and it does them, but it seems inefficient at times….going back over areas already done. Spends too much time bumping into the same obstacles.

Really Nice But Not Perfect
We’ve had this vacuum for about 6 weeks now. We still have a 980 model, which still works great and which we have moved to another level in the house. The j6+ is a really nice machine for our main level. Love how much more quiet it is than the 980 (no trouble watching tv), the self emptying feature, the bags that can be disposed of without inhaling lots of dust & dirt, and fact that I don’t need to take out the filter each time to clean it. Things I’m not so happy about: the rollers have become super sensitive about any dog hair at all (and I bought this because it claims to avoid poop or vomit so I would’ve thought it would be more robust against hair), I’m having a hard time programming a Clean Zone just how I want it and for that reason, the dirtiest part of my carpet where the dogs go in and out isn’t getting very clean. I’ve had to drag out my regular vac a few times to take care of it. I just don’t understand why the rollers are so sensitive. I just ordered a pack of 20 so maybe if I keep more around I can just replace them when they clog. .

Game changer!!!!
I have waited to review this to confirm this vacuum could keep up with my dogs fur. It has surpassed my expectations! This purchase was a life changer for my family. Rather than coming home to sweep up the miniature dog amount of fur my lab releases on a daily basis I get to come home and sit for a moment. The amount is steep, we personally bought it for half the price due to prime day deals but knowing what I know now I still would have purchased at full price. Be warned: The suction during the emptying on the vacuum is very loud. I set it to clean an hour before I arrive so I don’t have to hear the noise and come home to a tidy floors.

Will not connect to wifi, terrible customer service.
Could not connect the j6+ Roomba to my wifi, called customer service and sat on the phone with them for 40 minutes, he said we had to escalate my issue and they would contact me via email. They never got back to me despite my reaching out repeatedly. It’s being sent back, 400 dollars for a robot vacuum that can’t even connect to the app is a waste. With the customer service being this bad, I’ll be looking into a different company.

Loveeee my roomba. I got it on Amazon day for a great price. It cleans well. It’s only loud when it’s emptying but other than that, it’s great.
