Breaking Down the Blue driver obd scanner: Where Do Its Promises and Pitfalls Lie?
User-Friendly and Comprehensive: The BlueDriver Bluetooth Pro OBDII Scan Tool is celebrated for its user-friendly interface and extensive features. As Michael points out, it is “so user-friendly” that it suits both novices and experienced mechanics. Additionally, he appreciates the inclusion of videos, notes, and an “excellent support department” that further enhance the user experience.
Accurate Diagnostics: Many users, like James Weathers, praise the BlueDriver for its accurate diagnostic capabilities. James mentions that it “has been able to scan without issues” on various car models, including a Mazda, BMW, and Ford. This precision in detecting and reporting diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) makes it a reliable tool for car owners.
Cost-Effective and Time-Saving: Adam C. highlights the cost-effectiveness and convenience of the BlueDriver. He shares that it “paid for itself in less than a week” by enabling him to diagnose and repair his vehicle without a costly trip to the mechanic. This aspect is particularly beneficial for users looking to save money and avoid the hassle of visiting repair shops.
Limited Compatibility with Certain Car Models: Some users have reported issues with the BlueDriver’s compatibility with specific car brands. For instance, Diego found the device “useless for Porsche or BMW” as it failed to detect basic error codes on his 2015 Macan and 2017 X6, which were detected by other tools. This suggests that potential buyers should verify compatibility with their car models before purchasing.
Incomplete Data and Missing Features: Ken A. notes that the BlueDriver provides “minimal sensor info” compared to cheaper alternatives. He experienced this limitation with his 2018 Volvo, where it did not display critical information such as transmission temperature and oil temperature. Users looking for comprehensive sensor data might find the BlueDriver lacking in this aspect.
The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
I bought 2 ODB scanners from 2 different manufactures at the same time. ANCEL obd2 scanner was returned for refund because it couldn’t detect and report the 4 DTCs which the BlueDriver could. I’ll keep the BlueDriver. My car are 2013 Toyota Sienna & 2003 Acura TL 3.2.
The hubs has had this for quite awhile not used many times yet from what he has said he isn’t disappointed, said he’d buy again!

Loving the bluedriver
I’m loving this tool so far. I’ve used it to diagnose issues on a 2004 Chevy avalanche and a 2008 Honda fit. It’s worked great! I got tired of having to rely on the Auto part stores to tell me what the check engine light was on for, and often they were telling me the wrong thing. Plus, easier to shop for parts online, this has about paid for itself already. I love the interface with the app (I am using iPhone). It’s been great and easy to use. Comes with lots of videos to explain everything right on the app. It also suggests a fix, tells you how common the issue is, and links you to amazon to easily shop the part.

Pays for itself the first time you use it
Dealer wanted over $200 to run a diagnostic for a check engine light, wasn’t going to play that game. Plugged it in, downloaded the app, and a few minutes later I ordered the parts I needed to fix the problem. After I installed the new parts I cleared the codes and no check engine light since then. I’ve been using this for the past month to monitor real time data from the motor (there’s a ton of things you can monitor). Would buy again if mine disappeared.

Trouble light scanner
Great scanner for what it does but cheaper options out there for sure.

Provide a great array of information!
Provides a lot of details and I like that you’re able to clear some of your codes and that you can message your reports to yourself or to a friend if you’re wanting a second opinion on what you’re seeing in the readouts. My only complaint is that where it gives you the option to find the items for repair that links through Amazon, the information is not always accurate. There’s some discrepancies with what it shows you sometimes as the associated recommended parts. The one thing that does create a little bit of a limitation too is that you need to be on Wi-Fi some people might not like that and they prefer the other readers that he can just plug in and get the details but most of them unless you’re spending a whole lot more don’t provide as much detail or the code clearance that this does so it’s a trade-off depending upon what your needs are but personally I like it. I use it mostly for myself and I’m not normally taking it out to somebody else’s house to try to use it where there might not be a signal as I don’t do mobile mechanic work, but if that’s what you do and you’re not linking it to a hotspot it might not be what you want. But I use it with my iPad and it does what I need no problem and for a whole lot less than some of those 5K or 10K readers.

Doesn’t scan SRS
I bought this because they claims that it can scan SRS codes which it cannot so it’s going back. It’s no better than the $20 ELM scanner that I’ve had for five years. Save your money.
Rudy –
Worth the money!
I bought this device to try and troubleshoot 02 sensor issues. It was able to read all 02 sensor voltages. The quality and accuracy is really good too. Worth the investment if you even mildly work on cars.
Steve Hogan –
Works great right out of the box. Best choice in a crowded field
Download their app and plug the unit in and it works just like it should. No issues with their app, unlike their competitor, which I bought first and sent back because it didn’t support 2024 models. This one works for 2024 models just fine. Looks solid and the app seems stable.

Great tool
This saves a lot of trips to the garage or auto parts store. Simply download the app, plug it in and away you go.

Excellent
Nice packaging, intuitive instructions, quick delivery

Worked flawlessly
I have a Ram 3500 and it was able to read ABS codes which is not possible with most consumer OBD scanners.

awesome
I have a few of these BT ODB readers and they are all about the same. Unfortunately the cheaper ones (like I have) you have to buy the extended codes for vehicles which range from $20 to $100. A friend was having trouble with their Jeep Cherokee and I didn’t have the extended codes to help read the check engine light. I had him buy this as it has all the codes downloadable for free – almost the same cost as buying the ones you would need. Told him the error and which wheel speed sensor to replace. I went ahead and bought one as well. If you are going to use this on different car manufacturers or might in the future it is well worth the cost. Even if you dont, the helpful ‘this error means replace that’ could pay for itself. The speed sensor for my friend was $30 or so and a shop wanted $200 just to look at it.

False Advertising – Does Not Pai with EV
Based upon the description (works with Hyundai cars newer than 2011), I thought this would work. Now I find that it does not pair with electric vehicles.

Review
I’m sure this product works well for some models But the info on Amazon including the video is misleading as it does not read airbag codes on a 2008 corolla. You’ll have to double check to see if it will work for your vechicle you can’t just go by the generic info on Amazon.
Sheenika Ervin –
I expected better performance for the price.
It often struggled to connect to my phone, and the app was glitchy. While it read some codes, it missed others, which made it unreliable for diagnosing issues.

Perfect Code Reader
Works perfectly, just hate the constant blinking when not connected

Worth the money, Great tool to have
You are not paying for the physical tool, you pay for its software/app. Its software is great and free from ads. User interface is very easy to use while being very featureful. Avoid the cheap ones and get this instead

Not useful for Japanese cars
This thing works best newer American or European cars doesn’t work on my Subaru and Honda. Really wasted money
Jason –
Worked out of the box
Worked as anticipated for all 3 of my vehicles (2014 Ford Fusion, 2019 Ford F-150, 2019 Honda Odyssey). I haven’t run into any instances of it missing codes that were later found by more thorough devices. I do wish the app could track more than 5 live data points at a time, though.

Easy “plug n play” for a newbie like myself
This device is amazing; you access everything through the app and the Bluetooth connectivity works really well. It’s a great diagnostic tool for people who are just getting into cars and it makes everything to read. On the app itself, it tells you what the probably is and suggests what you can do to fix it; which is derived from other users as well.

More expensive, but worth it
This is the first one to be able to read and reset a 2006 Audi. Worked on a 2011 Silverado and 2014 Caddy.

Great product, even greater support
I had some issues pairing the device to my iPhone. I called support and immediately talked to a person. She tried everything she could to resolve the issue but had to send it to another tech person. They resolved the issue with a couple of emails. On a side note, my 2021 Honda Pilot had issues cranking, and BlueDriver showed a code that could be the issue. I’m sending it to my contact at the dealership and asking why they didn’t find this. Thanks, BlueDriver.

Fantastic Diagnostic Tool

Works Ok for the price, not a replacement for higher end auto mechanic shop OBD diagnostic
Bought this to replace an old Actron scanner that basically checked P codes and gave some other basic information. The only complaint I have is that I could not clear two Honda (2012 CR-V) specific low level codes (85-01 and 11-02) that I knew were “bogus artifacts” (no dashboard lights were on). Tried a couple of times to clear but they kept re-appearing. Otherwise it seems to work as advertised. Had codes cleared at non-Honda specific Auto Shop a couple weeks ago (had car in for another issue). I checked yesterday with the bluedriver and no codes have re-appeared.

Would not connect to Samsung Galaxy A53
Device would not connect to BlueDriver app running on Samsung Galaxy A53. The phone sees the Bluetooth device, but only allows pairing via the app. After several iterations with tech support, tech support advised exchanging the device. I opted to return it and seek a different solution.

Everyone should have one as part of the basic toolkit you carry in your car.
Amazing amount of info on your car. When you get a check engine light, grab this first and it will tell you what’s going on, if it needs immediate attention or is just an oil change reminder. Tells you what part you need with a link to order it on Amazon, or what the repair cost should be at an auto repair mechanic. Perfect gift for your kids, both your mechanical and non-mechanical friends. Everyone should have one as part of the basic toolkit you carry in your car.

Doesn’t work
Don’t get swindled like I did. Don’t buy this piece of crap. Too out of date to pair with more modern phones.

Wouldn’t connect and support is none existent
I couldn’t get the scanner to power on and connect. I tried two cars and 3 phones. All with the same results. I tried the online chat but waited an hour and finally gave up. I sent it back to Amazon.

6 year old device seems fine – software stopped connecting and no response from customer service
I’ve used this device off and in over 6 years to diagnose dashboard lights on my Prius. This week got a Check Engine light, and the app no longer connects to the vehicle. The DEVICE connects to my iPhone Bluetooth, but after that, the software reports unable to connect because the engine isn’t running (it is!). Attempted several in-app recommendations with no luck. Contacted customer service and tried connecting with online chat with no luck. It was good while it lasted.

Not Recommended for Toyota Owners
I own a 2014 Venza and a 2020 Tacoma. There is VERY LIMITED data available for these vehicles. For example, you can’t read basic information like transmission temp and voltage. Sure…things like RPM, water temp, engine load, short/long term fuel trims, etc. are available but even basic diagnostic information such as misfire counters are not available or “supported” in the terms of BlueDriver. This tool may work great for other makes and models, but in my experience there are cheaper tools if all you want to do is read and reset codes. I purchased in 2019, this review written in 2024. All updates installed.

Love it!
I’ve had an OBD scanner before and used countless others that were borrowed. I like using the large, color screen on my phone, instead of an awful scanner screen. I was even able to use for SRS light! Thumb’s up, I definitely recommend it.

Awesome scanner, tons of features
Work on Mini’s and has tons info that it can pull.
Ffrreeee –
Impressive
I had two older cars and was in the market to get another used car. So I decided to invest in a scanner to help with my old cars and to check on the potential cars I would buy. The wife would talk to the salesman while I ran the scan. Being able to manage on my phone kept the salesman clueless and allowed me to same the results to review later. Over the last few years I have done this at least 20-25 times. A few days ago, I left it in my shorts and it went through a complete wash and dry. Just tested it and works like a charm. 100% recommend.
