Under the Microscope: Evaluating the Product’s Pluses and Minuses
Many users have expressed satisfaction with the Shark robot vacuum’s performance. For instance, Christine Driggers praises its ability to clean in straight row patterns and its self-emptying feature, even with multiple pets at home. The efficient and quiet operation of the vacuum has also been noted by Phil C., who appreciates the self-emptying feature, stating it only needs to be emptied about once a week. Emily Hutton expressed delight at the upgrade from a Roomba, mentioning the Shark robot vacuum’s intelligence, ease of use, better features, and quietness. The ability to set a cleaning schedule and have the vacuum work unsupervised is a benefit that Jonathan Jolly finds valuable, especially with two large dogs at home. The appreciation for the vacuum’s capability to navigate and clean thoroughly without getting stuck is shared by users like Deb C., who also commends the ease of emptying the dustbin. Rob Russo has had a positive experience with the product for four months, particularly highlighting its safety on Persian rugs and fringes.
Furthermore, users like Cpw910 are extremely satisfied with the Shark vacuum’s performance over several months, especially its self-cleaning ability and effectiveness in dealing with pet hair. The user also appreciates the machine’s ability to find its way back to the charging dock. The quietness and cleaning ability on both hard floors and carpets have been commended by Martha Webb. Users like Judy Coffman are pleased with the vacuum’s performance in larger spaces like a church sanctuary, where it has been named “Ed” and performs its job reliably. The amazement at the amount of dust and debris collected by the vacuum is shared by Karenlpe, who recommends the product without hesitation.
Despite these positives, there are several drawbacks noted by customers. Art Vandelay, for example, complains about frequent clogging, with numerous notifications within a short period. Chaynie Nelson and Kat have had issues with the vacuum malfunctioning, citing an inability to work on an even surface and a complete lack of functionality, respectively. Kat, in particular, highlights the frustration with the app’s mapping feature and poor customer support from Shark, including being offered a billable service for a new product. V.A. Land describes the product as loud and inefficient with pet hair, requiring a search for an alternative already. Hannah warns potential buyers that some products may be refurbished without clear disclosure, and A. Moore finds the tank capacity and app features to be suboptimal compared to expectations.
Other users have faced technical issues with the app and connectivity, as noted by William H., who struggled with account verification for setup. Jkerlz criticizes the mapping function and the robot’s tendency to vacuum the same area repeatedly, compounded by unhelpful customer support. C. B. echoes these sentiments, pointing out the glitchy nature of the app. Kindle Customer is disappointed by the vacuum’s limited cleaning area due to programming constraints, and Michael Kiese initially gave a 1-star review due to the product’s inability to connect to the app and the frustrating customer service experience.
Will C feels cheated after purchasing what was supposed to be a new product but turned out to be a refurbished one that ceased functioning, with no satisfactory resolution. Joshua’s experience is particularly negative as he points out that the product delivered was not as advertised, lacking the specific features of the Shark AI ULTRA model.
What do the stars speak of?
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
the machine is wonderful, but delicate. One time the bumper got stuck, and it took ten minutes with a screwdriver to fix it. Otherwise, it’s the hardest working member of the household……
Works great…….. except it is always clogged. On November 10th I have already received 11 clogged notifications this month.
Inquiries & Responses: Your Doubts Clarified
1. How does the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum’s self-empty base work? The self-empty base is a convenient feature of the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum AV1002AE. After each cleaning session, the robot vacuum automatically docks to the base, where it empties the debris it collected into a bagless bin. This means you don’t have to manually empty the vacuum after each use, and the base can hold up to a month’s worth of dirt and debris, depending on your usage and home size.
2. Can the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum be used on both carpets and hard floors?Yes, the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum is designed for dual-action cleaning and can efficiently work on both carpets and hard floors. Its self-cleaning brushroll is engineered to prevent hair wrap and to provide powerful cleaning on all surfaces.
3. Is the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum compatible with smart home devices?Indeed, the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum is compatible with various smart home devices. It can be controlled through voice commands using Amazon Alexa or through your smartphone and tablet. This makes it very convenient to start, stop, or schedule cleaning sessions even when you’re not at home.
4. How do I set up boundary strips for the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum? The Shark IQ Robot Vacuum comes with BotBoundary strips that you can lay out around areas or objects you want to keep the vacuum away from. Simply place the strips on the floor, and the robot’s sensors will detect them and avoid crossing into the restricted areas.
5. What is the battery life of the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum, and how long does it take to recharge? The Shark IQ Robot Vacuum has a battery life that allows it to clean for up to a month on a single charge, depending on usage. Recharging times can vary, but typically it takes several hours for the vacuum to fully recharge. The vacuum will automatically return to its base to recharge when the battery is low.
6. Does the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum come with a warranty?Yes, the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum comes with a 1-year limited warranty from the manufacturer, SharkNinja. This warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal household use.
7. How much capacity does the dust bin in the self-empty base hold, and is it easy to maintain? The self-empty base has a capacity of 0.17 quarts, which allows it to hold multiple cleaning sessions’ worth of dirt and debris. It is designed to be easy to maintain, with a bagless design that requires you to simply open the base and empty it into the trash when it’s full.
8. What maintenance is required for the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum? To ensure optimal performance, the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum requires regular maintenance, which includes emptying the dust bin in the self-empty base, cleaning the filter, and removing any tangled hair or debris from the brushroll. The manufacturer provides specific instructions for maintaining your vacuum, and it’s important to follow these to keep your vacuum running smoothly.

Received the wrong produced used
I have used shark products for a long time and never had an issue. I gave it three stars because i received the wrong produced and it appeared to be used.

So is great, good suction, would recommend!
I think it works great as good section although the mapping doesn’t show a clear picture confusing of the pathway of your house? When it operates correctly getting most as it learns your house I noticed by the second run. I would recommend this. I now wish I would’ve got the one that mops and vacuums. For those with back issues or other disabilities this is an awesome buy for yourself for Christmas or any occasion treat yourself. It’s worth it.!

Poor set & support
First, the Shark app sucks. Second, even after connecting to wifi, it immediately disconnected but there is wasn’t any way to figure out how to correct the situation. Third, when seeking support via the app, there is no way to identify what model of Shark this is. No where in the packaging, on the vacuum, or in the app does it identify the model. Fourth, I’m returning asap. If a company is going to make something this messy just to set up, then they deserve to go out of business.

Good for maintenance
The object avoidance feature is definitely not as advertised. My robot has gotten stuck on my dog’s toys almost everyday. When there are no obstructions, the robot is very nice, especially for dog hair. I live coming home to the vacuum tracks and knowing that I don’t need to vacuum every other day. If you have pets, the 60 day storage for debris is more like 3 uses, but it’s still a nice feature!

Has not got stuck under anything!
This Shark has done everything so much better than my old one. We have 3 dogs and it has been doing great getting all the hair up, also we have concrete floors, so our house gets dusty really fast but with my new shark cleaning everyday it has cut the dust in half! All in all I’m very happy with my purchase!

Works
Bought for daughter.sje is very pleased with it. Works and empty itself. Have no complaints so far

My little Worker Bee
I have had this for nearly a year. My daughter has a bird, with lots of dust! My wooden floors have grooves in them, and I have low-profile carpets. This cleans wonderfully! The dust that it collects is amazing! The filters are easy to clean and replace. I breathe easier. I do sweep corners, but it reduces my workload significantly. LOVE it! Easy to program and trouble shoot. It is easy to find replacement parts when the pieces wear out.

Disappointed
I purchased this robot vacuum in 2022. I was totally satisfied with it until this year. What happened? When I changed internet provider everything when wrong. I could no longer communicate from the app to my vacuum. I tried going on YouTube didn’t work. I called Shark they didn’t know what the problem was. Then I happened to mention the problem to a tech on my internet provider they knew what the problem was. I have 5g these applications that use your phone apps use the old speed 2.4. You have to switch back to that to reconnect your device. They told me how to do it so finally got that fixed. Next problem mapping my rooms again. Not an easy job. Finally got it done. Everything was ok until today. Went to use it and I am back to square one. Had to reset password, everything was wiped, my rooms were gone. The vacuum itself is great. The link to the app to enable it to be used to chose which rooms to vacuum and anything else that requires that link is useless. My opinion is that it is no longer user friendly. I am tired of wasting time logging in and then figuring out how to get it to link back up to the app. Maybe I’m not the most tech savvy but shouldn’t it be easy for even non tech savvy people like me to use?

Awesome!
This vacuum is user friendly, works great, and the odor eliminator is a great addition for pet households. Worth every penny.

Excellent results!
We recently installed all lvp flooring with a few area rugs. After much research we decided on this Shark. We prefer to let it run after we have gone to bed or when we are doing other things rather than trying to watch tv. It’s not horribly loud but it is a vacuum so it does make noise. It does a great job vacuuming all of our floors and our thinner area rugs. We do have a very thick area rug which is does not go on due to the thickness. I didn’t expect it to so that was not a surprise. Gets under the chairs and bar stools. Very thorough in the coverage area. Our front door rug has tassels and it goes over them and our rug without any clogging or issues. We have run every 2-3 days to help with the dog hair and dust. It has been great to run it prior to mopping. Takes out a step of having to hand vacuum everything as often. Well worth every penny.
Jarrod Shupe –
Noisy
Not sure if the units are noisier because they are now made in China (manufacturing location change) but they are noisier than my unit that was 3 years ago. Even purchase the same model as my old one and that was noisy. Dirtdetect makes it run longer.
J. Olson –
🙏🏻 Works as advertised.
My third. First just died if heavy use second died from encounter with dog droppings. This one is powerful and much quieter than the others. It’s really really improved.
Tonya R Senese –
Disappointed
This vac had good reviews I had a roomba prior and switched. I don’t know why this vac is loud and doesn’t fit under things like roomba did. I have had 2 months and it is going to driveway for anyone that wants.

Problem
It would not clean. I unplugged it, plugged it back in. Did the factory reset. Nothing

Wonderful “Helper”
I love my “Rosie” Shark Vacuum! What a wonderful way to keep my home “picked up” and looking great!!! Would highly recommend!!
It’s ****in awesome and out of the park bad *** –
Too expensive
Doesn’t clean as well as my previous one did…paid more money than other versions wish I had gone cheaper given the poor results
Kaye L. Astorino –
I should have bought the iRobot.
I bought the Sharp robot vacuum based on a family member’s recommendation. I have carpet and hardwood floors and a dog. It works OK on the hardwood/vinyl floors, but not on the carpet. I also have a corded Shark stick vacuum which I love. When I use the stick vacuum, it picks up so much more dirt than when I run the robot vacuum.
Amazon customer –
Disappointing
This vacuum worked great for a few months but then had numerous issues. I got it because I had had a more basic model robot vac that I had to empty out by hand and I liked the idea of not having to do that as often but after only a few months of use, it would not regularly self empty so I had to do it by hand anyway. It also had issues of not being able to return to the base. After having it less than a year, it finally wouldn’t charge at all so I called up support and they are going to send another vacuum, minus the battery, brush, etc. The part is out of stock so I have to wait 2-4 weeks. I would not buy a Shark again
Chris Carson –
Doesn’t clean the corners well.
It says it has corner technology where it blows the dirt into the path of the roller but that really never happens. I have cats who get litter stuck in their paws so it doesn’t pick up any of that near the edge of the baseboard.

love it
I love it!

Died after 1 year
Shark brand does not offer replacement parts, instead they give you the opportunity to purchase a whole new unit and their customer service is an absolute joke.
J. Jones –
Cannot change IP addresses once your robot is set up without paying a fee.
Have been using the robot for 6 months on our old internet provider which wasn’t great and the robot didn’t perform like we had hoped. Last month a new internet provider was available to us and now the robot will not work. Called the tech support number and they said we have to buy a new IP address to get the robot to work. They said they could sell it to us for $90.00. We will not be buying another Shark product and wanted customers to be aware of this issue.

Can’t schedule a single room.
Was surprised to findout thet you cannot schedule a single room, only whole house. Kind of worthless to me. I hsve dogs so I must remove and clean the brush roller or it lockes up.

Great!
The floors have never looked this clean without mopping. Robot vacuum and app are easy to use.

Shark robot
We named him Steve McClean. He is one of my top appliance in our home. He does an outstanding job. We have 3 dogs and the house always looks tidy thanks to Stevie baby!
Stephanie Manley –
Stopped working got a replacement it stopped working too
So frustrated by this, they are not inexpensive. Mine stopped working, and then they sent me a new one in less than a year. The replacement unit stopped working.
Monica Dooling –
Was great while it worked 🙁
Lasted less than two years. Called Shark all they could suggest was purchase a newer model. I get it, it’s out of warranty but offering a small discount to purchase a newer model to keep me as a customer would have been appreciated.

WHAT’S INCLUDED: 1 Shark AI Ultra Robot, 1 XL HEPA Self-Empty Base, and 2 Side Brushes. Note it states there are 2 side brushes. When the initial order arrived and I open it and began following the enclosed directions, I realized that the directions did NOT match the product. E.G. Directions showed 2 side brushes the product had a single side brush and the apparent port area for the second brush was sealed over (a different floor panel installed). Further, the directions indicated an “on/off” button on the back of the base. Again, no button and the area was sealed off. Thinking it was an error in delivery, Amazon issued me a replacement. It was exactly the same. It too has been returned. What possible use is a robotic floor vacuum with a single side brush?? Ordered and received a NEW version (not refurbished, as the 1st 2 were) opened the box AGAIN there is a single side brush, as in the refurbished models, and no on/off switch. As noted it is not as advertised. I will give it a try, but I expect it to be substandard. Not acceptable for the price. Beware, of this particular item. It is a replacement for a refurbished Shark, that finally wore out. I was VERY happy with the job it did.
Alex Mojnov –
So far the best robot
Rumba is better then any others in this price range. We purchased Shark but had to return it as it wasn’t really doing any vacuuming. This one rocks very much recommended
FRANK SCHULTZ –
Last time ordering a Shark, this model purchased 1 month ago
I had a shark previous to this one lasted three years, the front wheel broke no replacement parts. Ordered this one similar to the model we had, It does not recognize the schedule no matter how times I’ve reset and entered the new time. It will only clean when you press the clean button and does not seem to do a very good job picking up any debris or hair, leaves clumps everywhere. Definitely regret this purchase and will never buy a Shark agian.
Julia –
Love it
It’s not too loud that it scares the cats, but I still have to plan It’s use by when the cats are outside. I like the fact it empties itself.
tiffykatmeow –
Loud!
The suction is great, but it is loud! I am so disappointed, I have owned cheaper brands that were never as loud. It’s making a drrrrrrrr noise like something is stuck in it but it’s not! Also it bumps into everything, pushes shoes around, the dog bed. I have spoken to customer service twice, they sent me a new brush head, that didn’t do anything. I’ve wasted enough time trying to get the issue fixed so I give up, I guess we’ll just have to put up with it until it dies. It was too late for me to return it as I bought it during a big sale but didn’t open the box for a month while we moved houses.
Amazon Customer –
Know before you buy
The only issue I have is no one was told you need a Internet connection of 2.4Ghz to talk to it, we only had 5Ghz, so I had to buy a dual band router one that has 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, so unless you already have 2.4Ghz in your house you have to pay out extra for a dual band router also
Proud American –
Does a good job
Responds quickly, fun to watch it go around the house. 1 have a 1600 sq foot house. I turn it on and leave the house. It’s great!
KBR –
No Space to Set Up
Before you order this robovac, be sure you have the space to set it up. You need to set it up on a bare floor, against a wall with an outlet within 5 feet of the base unit. You also need 3 feet of empty space on each side of the base unit and 5 feet of empty space in front of the base unit. (See image from Shark setup pamphlet.) I cannot comment on the quality or usefulness of this robovac because I never set it up. There literally is nowhere in my 2400 square foot house with space that meets the setup requirements. If I had known these dimensional requirements ahead of time, I never would have ordered this. It has to go back. This robovac also does not come with a printed owner’s manual. It only has a one page set up guide in the box.

Consuela Needs More Lemon Pledge
We named her Consuela. She needed to fully re-boot at least once before actually going and learning the house; make sure you re-start the App at least once before doing the “getting started” steps. She does a good job getting dust and staying away from stairs. You can customize the cleaning areas very finely. She does not do well with dog hair; we have one heavy and one medium shedder, she gets clogged up and needs to be emptied by hand pretty regularly. Our upper floor is 1300 sq ft total, she’s probably able to access about 75% of it and she is almost out of battery by the end. If you have a bigger house, she will need to stop to charge. She gets our house done in about an hour and 15 minutes. Carpets are challenging unless you tell her to deep clean an area. Overall very satisfied, she saves us a lot of time sweeping and our air smells cleaner.

Zero product support
Worked great until it didn’t. Bumper error 6 no obvious debris and moves freely. Allegedly has a warranty through the manufacturer but after repeated attempts to contact the support team I’m convinced they don’t want to be reached. They got my 300.00 don’t let them get yours.

Heaven
Why did I wait so long? I programmed it to vacuum while I was at the pool, and when I got home, the vacuuming was done! Best Buy ever!!
Sharon Sigmon –
This is a must with my dog!
It gets every inch of the floor, navigates around a stray cord, keeps my floors free of pet hair and any other unwanted dirt, crumbs, dust, etc. I live the mapping, so I can clean certain areas and the extra suction boost for really bad areas!
K. Smith –
She’s a Cleaning Wizard!
Very pleased with this unit—returns to base each time, cleans corners, good suction—I’ve ordered a second unit for upstairs.
Kristy Lamm –
Works better than the last one I had
I like that it goes in rows. I can send it to any room I want. Does get caught on rug tassels. Gets caught on floor fans, and cat toys. Keep things picked up. It was worth the $ spent. Hopefully the battery lasts a long time.
Laheastie –
Stopped working right at the 2 year warranty period.
This product worked well for a solid two years, then the sensors went out. It will not run now because the sensors keep producing an error where the robot thinks something is blocking its wheels and undercarriage.
Dave S Spear –
Only has one front brush
Although the video of this product clearly shows that it has 2 front brushes, the video is deceptive. It really only has one and I bought it specifically because it showed that it had 2 front brushes. With only one, the vacuum does not direct debris into its reservoir. Very disappointed in the false advertisement
