Under the Microscope: Evaluating the Product’s Pluses and Minuses
Many users have expressed satisfaction with the Shark robot vacuum’s performance. For instance, Christine Driggers praises its ability to clean in straight row patterns and its self-emptying feature, even with multiple pets at home. The efficient and quiet operation of the vacuum has also been noted by Phil C., who appreciates the self-emptying feature, stating it only needs to be emptied about once a week. Emily Hutton expressed delight at the upgrade from a Roomba, mentioning the Shark robot vacuum’s intelligence, ease of use, better features, and quietness. The ability to set a cleaning schedule and have the vacuum work unsupervised is a benefit that Jonathan Jolly finds valuable, especially with two large dogs at home. The appreciation for the vacuum’s capability to navigate and clean thoroughly without getting stuck is shared by users like Deb C., who also commends the ease of emptying the dustbin. Rob Russo has had a positive experience with the product for four months, particularly highlighting its safety on Persian rugs and fringes.
Furthermore, users like Cpw910 are extremely satisfied with the Shark vacuum’s performance over several months, especially its self-cleaning ability and effectiveness in dealing with pet hair. The user also appreciates the machine’s ability to find its way back to the charging dock. The quietness and cleaning ability on both hard floors and carpets have been commended by Martha Webb. Users like Judy Coffman are pleased with the vacuum’s performance in larger spaces like a church sanctuary, where it has been named “Ed” and performs its job reliably. The amazement at the amount of dust and debris collected by the vacuum is shared by Karenlpe, who recommends the product without hesitation.
Despite these positives, there are several drawbacks noted by customers. Art Vandelay, for example, complains about frequent clogging, with numerous notifications within a short period. Chaynie Nelson and Kat have had issues with the vacuum malfunctioning, citing an inability to work on an even surface and a complete lack of functionality, respectively. Kat, in particular, highlights the frustration with the app’s mapping feature and poor customer support from Shark, including being offered a billable service for a new product. V.A. Land describes the product as loud and inefficient with pet hair, requiring a search for an alternative already. Hannah warns potential buyers that some products may be refurbished without clear disclosure, and A. Moore finds the tank capacity and app features to be suboptimal compared to expectations.
Other users have faced technical issues with the app and connectivity, as noted by William H., who struggled with account verification for setup. Jkerlz criticizes the mapping function and the robot’s tendency to vacuum the same area repeatedly, compounded by unhelpful customer support. C. B. echoes these sentiments, pointing out the glitchy nature of the app. Kindle Customer is disappointed by the vacuum’s limited cleaning area due to programming constraints, and Michael Kiese initially gave a 1-star review due to the product’s inability to connect to the app and the frustrating customer service experience.
Will C feels cheated after purchasing what was supposed to be a new product but turned out to be a refurbished one that ceased functioning, with no satisfactory resolution. Joshua’s experience is particularly negative as he points out that the product delivered was not as advertised, lacking the specific features of the Shark AI ULTRA model.
What do the stars speak of?
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
the machine is wonderful, but delicate. One time the bumper got stuck, and it took ten minutes with a screwdriver to fix it. Otherwise, it’s the hardest working member of the household……
Works great…….. except it is always clogged. On November 10th I have already received 11 clogged notifications this month.
Inquiries & Responses: Your Doubts Clarified
1. How does the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum’s self-empty base work? The self-empty base is a convenient feature of the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum AV1002AE. After each cleaning session, the robot vacuum automatically docks to the base, where it empties the debris it collected into a bagless bin. This means you don’t have to manually empty the vacuum after each use, and the base can hold up to a month’s worth of dirt and debris, depending on your usage and home size.
2. Can the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum be used on both carpets and hard floors?Yes, the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum is designed for dual-action cleaning and can efficiently work on both carpets and hard floors. It can be controlled through voice commands using Amazon Alexa or through your smartphone and tablet. This makes it very convenient to start, stop, or schedule cleaning sessions even when you’re not at home.
4. How do I set up boundary strips for the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum? The Shark IQ Robot Vacuum comes with BotBoundary strips that you can lay out around areas or objects you want to keep the vacuum away from. Simply place the strips on the floor, and the robot’s sensors will detect them and avoid crossing into the restricted areas.
5. What is the battery life of the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum, and how long does it take to recharge? The Shark IQ Robot Vacuum has a battery life that allows it to clean for up to a month on a single charge, depending on usage. Recharging times can vary, but typically it takes several hours for the vacuum to fully recharge. The vacuum will automatically return to its base to recharge when the battery is low.
6. Does the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum come with a warranty?Yes, the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum comes with a 1-year limited warranty from the manufacturer, SharkNinja. This warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal household use.
7. It is designed to be easy to maintain, with a bagless design that requires you to simply open the base and empty it into the trash when it’s full.
8. What maintenance is required for the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum? To ensure optimal performance, the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum requires regular maintenance, which includes emptying the dust bin in the self-empty base, cleaning the filter, and removing any tangled hair or debris from the brushroll. The manufacturer provides specific instructions for maintaining your vacuum, and it’s important to follow these to keep your vacuum running smoothly.

Do not buy this vacuum
You get what you pay for I guess. Thought I’d save some money by getting a Shark for my customer lobby to run in the evenings. It gets stuck on nothing at all. Constantly sends notifications that its front number is stuck and there’s absolutely nothing wrong. I will return it to the base in the morning every time and same issue every day. Buy something else and stay away from Shark.

Only works about 6 months
Product no longer connects to app. $380.00 for a junk. If I’d realized it only had a 30 day return policy I would not have bought. Very upset with Sharks guarantee of their products. It is useless without a working app. There is no manual start and stop with this product . Will no longer be a Shark family. The only help was spending ungodly amount of time with tech support which ended up being no help at all. Still doesn’t work.

Mapping
Once I understood what the map was supposed to represent, it did a thorough cleaning job and cleaned 3 rooms in under one hour and was very quiet while doing it.

Great.. at first
I’ve had this vacuum for about a year and a half. For the first year or so it was great. It really helped keep the floors cleaner and it seemed like the best value for the price. The issues started about a month ago. More and more frequently, the robot would stop and say “please check for an obstruction, error number 2” I looked online and found these vacuums were very susceptible to having dirt and dust clog up the inner mechanics. I watched every deep clean video I could find but nothing worked for more than a day before the problem came back and the robot would stop immediately after leaving the dock. I called customer service and they initiated a video call to diagnose the problem which was cool but basically all they told me was I was out of warranty and “they aren’t meant to last much more than a year anyway” which was really surprising coming from them. All in all, I’m disappointed my $500 vacuum lasted only 18 months. I wish they had some kind of referb I could pay for. I’d rather spend $100 to fix it than buy a whole new one, which I will not be doing.

works great
This has helped me so much keep our floors clean through out the week and reduce the dog hair and my long hair too that falls so much. I definitely recommend this! worth the money especially if you work long hours and only have the weekend to clean

Stupid robot bad customer support
I’ve had this robot for over a year. initially it worked great but after a few months the robot would not clean rooms, have problems finding the dock etc… I did a factory reset and started from scratch to try to resolve some issues but that made everything worse. Robot will not map the house, it will run for 10 mins and the hide on the dock for the rest of the day. Support was no help and this thing is out of warranty so i’m out $450+. Thought i was getting a good product with the Shark/Ninja brand but this thing sucks, in a bad way.

This one died in 3 months. How long with replacement last? Not happy!

I love it
I have 3 pets and a bad habit of procrastinating on a few house hold chores, vacuuming being one of them. This Shark Robo Vac is the best thing I ever bought when it comes to cleaning supplies. This thing picks up 2-3 months worth of fur, cat litter, dust, and who knows what else. It took a few days, and a few uncloggings, but my floor is now clean! It’s also very quiet, I no longer have to suffer headaches when the carpets need cleaned. I actually expected a bit more sound from something that works so well on my neglected carpets.

Worked first few months….FRUSTRATING
So loved this at first ….. set up mid January. Now it doesn’t work!!!!! Keeps saying clean brush. Nothing in there. Everything else looks fine. VERY FRUSTRATING. Everyday it’s stuck it says
Rubiesndasand –
It WAS great at first.
I bought mine in 2021 and loved it at 1st. With that said I’m glad I bought an extended warranty. The original one ran well for about a year, then the wheels locked up and wouldn’t spin rendering it useless. Sent it in for repair and they replaced it with a different refurbished one. This one ran ok for a couple weeks, then it to started having issues. It would say the bumper was stuck, so you go jiggle it a bit and it would carry on. This problem became a huge problem. It would leave the base get 2ft out and stop saying the bumper was stuck. It got to the point it wouldn’t move. So I sent it in for repair. They just refunded my money stating it was not repairable. I’m so glad I bought the extended warranty or I would have been out $500 bucks.

Vacuum needs improvement
Pros: – maps floor more or less accurately – the feature of “recharge and continue” and “empty bin and continue” is nice Cons: – the app doesn’t show robot position and what has been cleaned on a map. I got used to that with roborock. It’s hard to find the robot if it stuck. – speaking of that it cannot recognize a bar under some of my chairs, so often bumps to it and sometimes stuck. It also can assess if it can fit under the sofa and sticks there too. I had to put rubbers under sofas legs. – the sucking power is average it cannot suck nice enough my carpet. And all my floor is carpet. – the battery is not enough for my 100 sq meter apt. “Recharge and continue” helps, but it takes 3+ hours to clean everything. – hairs are not sucked in at all, either left on the floor or stuck in the rotating cylinder side. So I need to clean it every day. – lastly after a half of a year usage, after constant bumping over the under-chair bar it is loosing his ability to find his base. Once in 3 times, if you press dock button it searches for it for 5+ minutes and then gives us and asks for help.

Use without the app its perfect!
Absolutely love my little Robo vacuum. Just don’t use the app. It’s basically a do nothing app plus if don’t want your data shared – skip the app and internet part. Otherwise I just press the button and off she goes. Very thorough. Shocked at the amount of stuff it seems to find. And the big bonus is self emptying. It’s like my cat going to her litter box except it’s my little helper. Then I only have to empty all the contents like once every couple weeks. Dependents on how much she collects. I look forward to pressing that button and being able to have my coffee and just ride my exercise bike, or do some work or other multi tasking things I may want to do knowing the vacuuming is done. In fact I’m about to have the living room vacummed now!!!

Very Impressed
I am quite pleased with the performance of this Shark Robot Vacuum. Many more features than one I had many years ago. Once it performs the mapping of you home, and carefully placing “No Go” zones, its operation is excellent. Don’t hesitate to purchase this product.

Robot is excellent. App/Mapping not so much
The robot is great. The issue I have is with the app/mapping. It took 8 full map scans to finally get it right. I’m scared to move anything to avoid the hassle of remapping. The robot itself is superior to other value robots (i.e., Eufy). I purchased an eufy unit and the suction was awful – but mapping was great – but I need a robot that actually can clean! I highly recommend this Shark robot vac based on what I’m seeing with this unit.

Excellent vacuum
This is a pleasant surprise and efficient vacuum I would highly recommend
Christopher Behnke –
Disappointing sweeper
Most aspects of this device are harder to work with and less effective than it’s competitors. After having it for several months I regret the purchase. I have owned automated sweepers that have done well, this just isn’t one of them. The good design aspect is the bagless base, and the worst part is how it docks. The unit has a roughly 10% success rate in docking, and there are no obstructions anywhere near the base. This makes unattended use impossible.
Amazon Customer –
where do I get a replacement for the cleaning brush
works great but twirling brush fell off. Can I get a replacement?

Battery doesn’t charge more than 80%
This is my second Shark vacuum. But the battery doesn’t charge more than 80% no matter how long I let it charge. After only running vacuum in my living room the battery is down to 50%. There is no way I can run it through my whole house at one time. It takes several rechargings to clean the downstairs only. (I have an additional Shark for the upstairs)
Cameron bowman –
It’s ok-definitely not good for animals of any kind
Definitely works fine for minor dirt and dust but forget it if you have animals of any kind! The smallest bit of hair or fur will stop the machine in its tracks. For as pricy as this shark was, I’m pretty disappointed in its performance.

Game Changer
We have white hardwood floors so every speck of dirt is super easy to see. My cats also fling litter out of the litter box quite often and I was growing tired of sweeping it up only to turn around minutes later and there’s more. Once I got the house mapped, I’m not able to send the robot to clean up the litter while I enjoy playing Animal Crossing. It’s like having a maid – but you don’t have to keep paying it.

Great gadget
It saves a lot of work and gets our floors clean. This is our second Shark robot and it is quite advanced over the old one.

You need this if you have animals
Purchased on a black Friday deal and have no regrets. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats and this has been amazing at helping me to keep up with the fur trails in the house. We have hardwood and tile throughout with a couple of area rugs. I previously had an older model Shark that just bounced around everything. It did ok, but missed a lot. I didn’t realize how much it missed until I started using the new one. Set up and operation is fairly easy. There is a little bit of a learning curve with the app set up and marking your rooms, but once I figured out I could zoom in, that helped. I can’t believe how much more surface area this robot picks up compared to the old model. The robot vacuums around the perimeter and then vacuums like it’s completing a strip and grid search in your room. It will empty itself if it gets full and will even re-charge and re-start if it needs a little robot nap. The self-emptying feature is pretty cool, so you don’t have to empty each day. I especially enjoy the ability to spot clean an area or only certain rooms. You don’t realize how convenient until you use it! We have had to clean the roller out about once a week for some wrapped up hair, but that is to be expected and is very easy to open the flap and take out the hair. Don’t forget to check your filters as well, as it’s easy to forget with the self-emptying function (out of sight/out of mind). Overall, worth the price for the extra help around the house. It is definitely earning its keep.

Not worth it
Doesn’t clean very well, the mapping is easily lost and the robot gets confused

Highly Questionable Product – NOT worth the Money
The initial bot would not stay connected to the internet or the iPhone app, so I had no control over what it did. Three calls with Shark’s Expert Customer Assistance personnel, they concluded it had defective software. Shark replaced the bot very rapidly.
