The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
This generator is underrated and outperforms anything out there. It takes care of all my work needs and I don’t have to worry if it’s going to handle the load. The fit and finish are great and its easy to transport. I recommend this to anyone looking for an easy-to-use generator.
specifications were unclear, but reviewers indicated the remote start capability was included. When unit received the 12v battery bay was empty and no remote fob included. Apparently this variant is pull-start only. Not sure yet if they can add kit with capability or if I need to return the entire unit – but working directly with Westinghouse to address.

Best bang for your buck
Compact design and mobility. Extremely quiet compared to other generators. The instructions were easy to follow. The included tools was a great addition. No engine compacities for gas or oil listed. No oil drain plug.
Wolfboylifeman –
Not good for home backup ! Not 240 volt
This is a great generator. However I just had my electrician advise me that this is not a good choice for home backup. And that is the biggest reason I got it. As it advertises that it is good for home backup. It is not a 240 volt duel phase. Every home built after like 1940 is 240. So if you use the interlock system to connect your generator it can be unsafe. So without going into a bunch of technical details I will just end with make sure if you want a good home backup you ensure 240 volt. Consult an electrician before you buy.

Highly Recommend
Originally ordered this generator for power outages we occur during bad weather, ended up using on a job site. This generator is pretty quiet and easy to move around. The duel fuel is a plus as I have a back up fuel type if needed.

Powerful and light
Smaller package, with big power I bought as a back up for lights and refrigerator. Hoping I never have to use it!
Kevin Tice –
Many thoughtful features
Arrived safely packaged without any damage. The generator has many thoughtful features I did not expect like an anti-tip indicator light and a screw on funel that allows you to pour oil without having to take off the external cover. It is easily maneuverable with the built in telescoping handle. Instructions are easy to understand and it comes with a quick start guide. The generator started first try and is quieter than my lawn mower. I was hesitant to purchase with the no return policy but overall very pleased that I did.

Great generator
This is super easy to use and quieter than most.
Justin Keck –
Great Generator!
Just received and started up the generator. Packaging was great. Instructions were clear and detailed. I would recommend this generator.

Looks good
Purchase to use it as backup power at home during power outage. Looks durable and I like it has the remote start key fob
Grungegoth –
good power to weight ratio
compared to other brands, thi sunit is relatively light for the power it puts out. Easy to move around with the built in wheel and tow handle, plus two handles to pick it up (two persons). addedd the oil and set the battery and it started right up.

Good first impression
Just arrived. Added the oil and gas, connected the quick connects to the battery and it started right up. It may not be as quiet as my brother’s $3000 generator, but it’s MUCH quiter than the cheap old generator I had been using. It’s attractive, not that that matters for power purposes. I like the guage on front that tells you voltage, fuel level, etc. A nice little surprise was the supplied cord that plugs into the generator to charge the battery. Much easier than removing it or trying to get charger cables in the battery compartment. The oil fill dipstick is 3 or 4 inches inside the casing, so hard to see and reach. They compensated for that by supplying a screw in funnel for oil filling. But that funnel isn’t long enough to have the cup strait up when filling. So that access and filling is the only downside I’ve found so far.

Reliable
We have had the unit for six months and it has worked flawlessly! Looking forward to using it again next camping season.

So far, so good
The iGen came packaged nicely and quick start instructions were easy to follow. More reviews will come down the road as I use this for camping adventures!

love the dual fuel option!
nice generator for the price, runs nice and quiet on the propane (haven’t put gas in it yet)

Reassuring to have backup power
I have not yet needed to put my Westinghouse iGen4000DFc into service yet this winter, and frankly I wouldn’t mind if an urgent need to do so never happens! However, having “test driven” the generator I am confident it will supply the backup power when necessary.
cepk –
charge battery
Who knew the battery had to be charged to keep the generator going? I am not a mechanic so I did not know this…..it is not written in the manual, anywhere. Also connecting the battery cables was not listed as a specific step. Two important, vital steps are not listed in the startup which results in frustration and wanting to return it. One afternoon lost to this event. We even talked to tech support who could not explain steps clearly to us. I read the manual several times, highlighted and took notes on starting this….So have only had it one day and not a fun experience. I have hope it will show us good operation if we can get it going today as we charged battery overnight.
Jim –
Easy of use and very quiet.
I have used this product 4 times now since I purchased in October 2024 And the key fob start is a game changer. I went with a dual fuel as propane tanks can sit longer than gasoline can without going bad that way I always have fresh fuel in any emergency. I replaced an old boxy generator that was really loud and went with an inverter generator this time because I power mostly electronics and rarely use the full potential of the generator and with the inverter generator it will drop the fuel consumption based on the power pull.
MC –
Awesome inverter generator. Easy to use
Easy to use. Perfect generator for backup power. Very light. Perfect to move it around.

Works good, starts great!
Love how it has a remote start feature. Not too noisy! Not extremely heavy to unload/load. Has a long run time on a tank of gas! Would definitely recommend.

Comes with a few frustrations
The recent hurricane left us without power for a few days; afterwards we decided to finally buy a generator, and settled on the Westinghouse iGen5000. When opening the box I found the rear cover had come off, and there was a small metal piece that looked to be part of a clip. I looked around and couldn’t tell where it might’ve come from, so I figured I’d look at the parts schematic to see where it might belong. The schematic is printed so small as to be worthless. A couple tools were included: a screwdriver, a spark plug wrench, and an oil funnel. Because the generator appeared otherwise undamaged, I decided to put it through its break-in process. I wanted to make sure I knew how the panels come off, but discovered the handle of the screwdriver is so thin that one can’t get enough grip to take the screws off the panels. The spark plug wrench is likewise unusable: I tried taking the plug out but the plug is in so tightly that it won’t budge. I’m going to have to get a thin walled deep socket to remove the plug, I think. You’re also going to need a 10mm wrench for the oil drain plug, and you’ll also need a 13mm (more on that in a moment). Something I like is the threaded tip to the oil funnel, which makes filling the generator with oil very easy. I hate to admit it, but I got confused by the fuel switch (the switch shown in the users guide was different): I inferred the three settings were open choke (ie, Run), half-open, and closed (ie, Start). They’re actually Closed Fuel valve (ie, STOP), choke open (ie, Run), and choke closed (ie, Start). So I spent the first several times starting it, then inadvertently shutting it off by turning the dial all the way to the left. I’m sure the neighbors wondered why I kept starting then immediately stopping the engine. The switch shown in the Quick Start guide actually matched the one on my machine. The second time I ran it, a small rubber cap came off of somewhere; I figured out it was a screw cover from on top of the machine, and replaced the cap. I do like the handle: it seems sturdy and makes it easy to roll the generator around. After the break-in, I wanted to change the oil. There’s the 10mm drain plug, and the idea is that you pull out the little rubber plug in the bottom panel, and the oil drains through the hole in the panel. But the drain plug threads into a silly little “spigot,” and that’s threaded into the oil pan. So when you try to turn the drain plug, the spigot comes off, and the oil drains into the panel (missing the hole) then you’ve got a big mess on your hands. You’ll need the 13mm to hold the spigot to get the drain plug out of it. Bottom line, I guess I’m a little disappointed but begrudgingly satisfied–the generator starts and runs (very quietly too), and I think we’re ready for the next power outage. A few things that would’ve made the process smoother for me would be more usable maintenance tools, and a usable parts diagram. It’d be nice to have less ambiguous text (or perhaps color code) on the fuel switch. Having the spigot threaded into the pan means you’ve got to hold that while removing the drain plug, otherwise you’ll have a mess.

Chose iGen5000DFc for Dual Fuel and Westinghouse’s Highest-Capacity Inverter Generator
I’m very happy with this generator. I chose it because it’s the largest of Westinghouse’s inverter generators, and the dual fuel feature is excellent for emergencies. It runs quietly, comes with a thorough user manual, and is reasonably priced compared to competitors. The remote start is convenient and easy to use, and the ECO mode helps reduce fuel consumption. With wheels and a retractable handle, it’s portable enough to roll on hard surfaces. However, at over 100 pounds (without fuel), you might need assistance to carry it long distances or lift it into a truck bed.
Marvin Baker –
Full Featured, low noise, and easy to get running
It was quick to set up and get running. Just unpack, add oil, connect propane and add gas. I like the push button start. Low noise. The display is very helpful, with power, voltage, hours of use and fuel (gasoline) level.
Bonnie J McDonald –
Problem getting it up and running
Followed the directions for getting it ready to use but nothing happened. Discovered the battery wasn’t connected internally. Once that was done, it started easily. Quiet. All I really need it for is to run a sump pump if the electricity goes out. Being a senior citizen, I needed something other than a pull start. This model does all that. Just got it a week ago so I don’t know about its reliability.
Karen Sedgwick –
Generator works great
Out of the box, set up was easy and started right up.

Boughting Westinghouse because of high-quality & advanced features
I did a lot of research on generators before pulling the trigger and everything always lead me back to Westinghouse. Purchased this iGen4000DVc and couldn’t be happier! Has all of the bells & whistles from dual-fuel, push button start & even a key fob! Build quality is very high and instruction booklet was very good and easy to read. Very happy with my purchase! Plus I love that Westinghouse is based out of Columbus, Ohio!

SOLID UNIT
Unit has been good so far. Ran everything in travel trailer. Fuel will last about what they claim but depends on loading.
Gordon Lovett –
Well Made Portable Generator
Received on time and in good shape. Generator was easy to set up and easy to follow instructions. Started the product with propane but has the ability to use gasoline. Battery was easy to hook up and secure and oil comes in the correct size for the oil needed. Haven’t had the need to hook up and use yet but love the remote start.
zdzislaw prus –
Quietest Inverter generator I found
This was easy to set up and easy to start, very quiet and puts out plenty of power. They also designed it well, making maintenance and storage a breeze, for example it was easy and straightforward to drain the gas from the float bowl and simple to add oil to the unit. They also provide the right type and amount of oil in the package so you are ready to go right out of the box. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a solution to power outages but doesn’t want the noise that most generators put out.
Arthur S. Gaylord –
Started right away
Just got and tested. It worked fine without any problems.

Perfect, as expected!
I have been waiting on this particular unit to become available. It has been on backorder for quite some time. I ordered it the day it became available. There were some shipping delays (sipper I believe). But I did receive the unit, and it is clean, packaged well, and works like expected.

Easy Setup
It’s pretty heavy, but it’s equipped with sturdy wheels and a long, extendable handle. It comes with a quick start guide and a handful of tools. I was pleasantly surprised that it also came with a bottle of engine oil, so I was able to get it all set up rather quickly without any trips to the store.

Read all instructions
So far only tried at home but will using for RV camping. All of start features work well. We especially love the remote start. Light enough to lift and handle to pull on wheels is great! Not too noisy. Love everything about it!
Viva San Fermin –
Quiet and easy to start
Only running this to break it in so far, but it’s fairly light, runs super quiet on propane, and starts very easily. Documentation could be a bit better to explain the different power output options, for example, if you can run both the 20amp and 30amp lines together.
Renee Zakrzewski –
Great when you need electricity!
The 5000 DFC generator arrived with a missing battery access cover. Called late in the evening (the same day) and the after hours answering service lady was so kind. Two case numbers were initiated: one for missing part, the other for registration and warranty. By providing this review, we are eligible for the bonus generator cover. What attracted us to purchase this generator are: the remote and dual fuel options make it versatile, especially during emergencies. I have not started it up, but will next spring. It’s a Christmas present for my wife; she will need to move it around; and frequently, so the weight (56.7 kilograms/124 lbs.) is the best weight-to-wattage I could find at the most reasonable price. The extendable handle is perfect for lifting and transporting – the well built handle makes it easy to pull in and out; and locks firmly in both positions. The exhaust opening appears close to the exterior plastic casing (could it melt from prolonged use?) and is flush with the exterior casing surface. This is a good design; keeping children away from possible burns. The exhaust is not a concern, since there is ventilation and adequate clearance around the whole perimeter of the exhaust tube. The metal screening on the exhaust exterior is a nice touch. Wondering if cleaning the exhaust area, especially cleaning inside, near the engine block may be tedious. Have not examined the interior past the casing, till satisfied warranty allows such care. Engines collect lots of dust, creating grime deposits. These deposits can be troublesome, can degrade performance; especially since this equipment may be used in remote areas, and is prone to much common abuse. The weight, transport handle, and wattage were the main criteria for purchasing a Westinghouse product; and it was made in Vietnam; excellent workmanship coming from that country lately! It would be even more useful if a generator could be set on multiple sides: such as battery facing side (it would look like a rolling suitcase at the airport). The generator control panel: gauges, data center, breakers, etc. (Fig. 7) would be directly visible and accessible to the user from the top. It would store better. I have not seen such a design yet, but there could actually be a market for it. The product is well made because much technical thought went into the design, durable materials were utilized in construction; and I believe a long life cycle is achieved – well done. Kudos on the well crafted manual, parts list, and quick start guide. I assume the picture on the warranty pamphlet is Mr. Westinghouse? Now that’s a touch of class; wonder what he would think of his Westinghouse today – blessed pride in workmanship! Thank you.

Generator is as advertised
The generator operates out of the box; has easy to understand manuals, access to all components and instructions on the instrument panel are simple. Moving it around is very easy with the wheels and telescoping handle. It runs quietly and gets the job done.

Wheeled with a handle
Decided to purchase this after having a 6 day power outage from a bomb cyclone. We lost all items in fridge and freezer and without lights and a way to charge handheld devices. The size, weight and options made this one of our two top prospects. The deciding factor was that this compact inverter generator has wheels and a handle to ease mobility, and does not exceed 100 lbs. Excited to have a dual fuel option and inverter for our next power outage providing different options during any emergency.

Good purchase

Very nice inverter.
It came well packaged, with a very detailed instruction manual and multiple accessories. I powered it up and it’s seemingly very efficient and quiet for a portable inverter. So far I’m pleased with my purchase. Five stars!

### Generator Review: One Year of Ownership I’ve owned this dual-fuel generator for about a year and have used it on several occasions with both propane and gas. Here’s my detailed assessment: #### **Pros** – **Quiet operation**: Great for reducing noise, even in close quarters. – **Remote start**: Convenient and works well. – **Reliable pull start**: Functions efficiently as a backup. – **Battery charging**: Works seamlessly with the provided adapter. – **Weather-resistant plug covers**: A practical feature for outdoor use. – **Easy transport**: Handle and wheels make moving it a breeze. – **Tool-less battery access**: Simplifies maintenance. – **Partially tool-less oil change port**: Makes routine maintenance easier. – **Powerful**: Easily supports a small camper’s air conditioner, microwave, and tools running simultaneously. – **Lightweight for its size**: One person can lift it if necessary. #### **Cons** – **Bolt issues**: Some bolts can come unanchored from the plastic casing and may need to be glued back in place. – **Flimsy cover**: The plastic casing feels soft and less durable. – **Remote start battery**: Arrived essentially dead and needed replacement within a year. – **No hour meter**: Makes it difficult to track usage. – **Limited remote start range**: Could be better for larger setups. – **Undervolting under heavy load**: Occasionally undervolts when handling around 80% load, even with a surge suppressor. This might be a design feature rather than a defect. – **No grounding rod included**: You’ll need to purchase one separately. #### **Conclusion** This generator offers excellent value for the price. While it has some minor drawbacks—like the need to tighten bolts after shipping and replacing the remote start battery early—it performs reliably. It’s quiet, powerful, and hasn’t had significant issues even when exposed to inclement weather over the past year. If you’re looking for a capable generator without spending Honda-level money, I would recommend this model.
