    POS failed on day one.

I purchased this inverter to run my upright freezer rated at 3amps max. I have a power monitor on this outlet and my freezer runs at .6 amps 90% of the time. When the door has been opened several times it pulls as much as only 1.6amps maximum. I am using a new automotive battery rated at 880cca and 80 amp hours. The initial power up is simple, connect Battery DC+, RED, to DC Input + Red. Connect Battery DC-, BLK, to DC Input – BLK. When I touched the Positive cable to the positive terminal on the Inverter, it threw a spark. I backed off and waited a few minutes and continued connecting it up and all appeared to be OK. I had good AC output around 114VAC. Battery voltage was 12.3VDC. I plugged my freezer in and the inverter would not start it. Output current showed about 1 amp. I left it plugged in for about an hour and it would not run a 3 amp freezer. I sent it back to Amazon for full refund. Thanks Amazon. Going to purchase a Renogy and see how that goes.

I bought this inverter to run fans, lights, etc. during an emergency. However it will not turn on sometimes. I have to turn the switch off and on to make it work. As of today it will not turn on. I would not recommend this inverter.

    Poor quality! Don’t buy

The media could not be loaded. I have a couple of different other brand inverters that run very nicely. However, I have tried three of these and unfortunately with the same disappointing results. – After the unit heats up (about 10 minutes), it reaches 104 degrees and then the fan kicks in. – Ok so far, however the fan doesn’t cycle on and off at a regular pace (i.e. after a minute of two of cool down, cycles off for 15 or 20 minutes) but cycles on/off every 5-10 seconds with a very load motor and using power from my batteries each time. – This takes up precious battery power and likely causes wear and tear on the motor every time it starts/stops. – I then unhooked the load totally (0 watts) so all that was hooked up was the inverter and guess what? The inverter still heated up to 104 degrees on its own in a few minutes and then started cycling the motor on/off again WITH NOTHING HOOKED UP TO IT! (See attached video) – To give this a fair shot, I’ve tried 3 of these and they all do the same thing. – One other thing re: their REVIEWS…there are only 20 reviews total and almost half of those (8/20) were Vine reviews, meaning that the people that reviewed the product received it for free to try it and to write a review. Interestingly most all of the people that got the product for free gave it 5 stars. Kind of waters down the overall star rating on this product though doesn’t it? – Customer service was also not helpful at all. – Bottom line, buy it if you want, but for $300-$350 I would invest my money with a product with thousands of QUALITY reviews, not 20 of which half were bought and paid for.

Quality unit for up to 1000W, not good for 1200W, and does NOT do advertised surge.

3.5 stars, since I can’t do half stars, I round DOWN. This is a quality unit that was engineered for up to 1000W. I do not feel comfortable running it at over 1000W, and due to some limitations (read below), I unfortunately don’t feel comfortable running it even at 1000W for long periods of time. The GOOD: – high quality unit that will run your loads – I charged a Tesla off it (for testing) and it ran for an hour until the battery died – fans do a good job of keeping most of the unit cool – Sine wave looks good! Not perfect, it has a permanent step and some intermittent errors, but quite good. For reference, to pull 1200W at 12V, you will be need to pull 100A+. There are losses and I’ve seen measured amp draw from the battery as high as 115A. The BAD: – The POSTS of the unit are not engineered for anywhere near 100A+ draw, they got very hot, at one time I measured 124°F/51°C, and I’m pretty sure it went higher. even at lower draws or 800-900W, the posts (in particular the negative post) was so hot that if I held my finger on it for more than a couple of seconds I would burn myself. Probably other parts inside are undersized. – At 10A/~1150W output, DC input draw was bouncing around like crazy between 106-115A. This is not at all something I want to see and is basically unusable for me. Dropping load to 9A/~1035W immediately stabilized the draw — it is stable up to about this load (I could only test in full 1A increments, it’s possible that it’s stable at 9.5A/1100W). – The included cables are NOWHERE NEAR thick enough to pull 100A+, I used my own 2 AWG cables. do NOT use those cables if you’re gonna approach 1000W. – Unit WILL NOT do the advertised SURGE, I tried to start a vacuum cleaner which surges to at most 1400W on startup and settles at 850-900W and this unit could not start it. This is disappointing as the advertised surge/peak output is 2400W and it could not even do 200W above it’s rated continuous output. – Fans get very loud at over 720W or so. This is not a ding against it per say, but if you plan on using it inside like in an RV, keep this in mind. A nice to have feature would be SOFT START, which this unit doesn’t have. It may have been able to start my vacuum cleaner. My 3kW 24V inverter has it and it’s so nice (even tho it doesn’t even need it to start the vacuum cleaner). As is, this should be marketed as a 1000W inverter and shipped with thicker cables. A surge of 2x continuous (2x1000W=2kW) should be properly engineered so the unit can start heavier loads. Re-engineering should be done for 1200W with beefier posts and a better mounting system, and anything else internally that would need to be beefed up to handle 100A+ 12V DC input. My particular unit also has some sort of bug where when you turn it on it will say “OutPut (sic) 0.5V” and will, indeed, for some reason run at 0.5V output. Turning it off and back on, sometimes multiple times, clears up this problem (at first I thought the unit was completely bad). With thicker cables and beefier posts this would easily be a 4.0-4.5 star unit in my book, for the money (when on sale). Still a very solid unit, if you understand the limitations and your use case is within them.

Well-built, quality look, just didn’t work

I had high hopes for this inverter, if felt solid and of high quality, the manual was well-illustrated, the cables thick. However, after connecting it to a new 7Ah LifePo4 battery, it showed an output of 90v, and didn’t run a small fan. Thinking the battery couldn’t handle the current draw, I bought a 100Ah LifePo4 battery, charged it fully, and still only 90v output. I checked the manual, all the connections, still 90v and it would not run a small fan. It was defective. The display is informative but hard to read as it is dim, and the font is small except for the large numbers. Given all the poor experiences many reviewers have with different inverters and customer support, I returned it. I am rethinking my need for an inverter and am looking instead into 12v appliances for heating foods, such as the 12v Aotto portable oven here on Amazon, that connect directly to a 12v battery and don’t need an inverter. Also, new items should work right out of the box. They should not need repeated calls to customer service and troubleshooting. Based on customer reviews, I chose not to go back and forth with customer service and troubleshooting. Therefore, I returned the inverter within the Amazon return window. Perhaps it’s time that sellers with poor customer review ratings lose their selling privileges. Such sellers only undermine Amazon.

    Don’t waste your money!!

Bought this item to use in my new truck for outdoor power and to charge my cordless tool batteries. I also bought the remote switch so I can operate it from the cab. I don’t use it much and after the first 4 or 5 uses, I was getting no power from the inverter. The unit would turn on, I would hear the fan run for 2 seconds, the display would stay lit, but no output power. I tried turning the truck on and off and even disconnected and reconnected the battery cable and it still wouldn’t work. I disconnected the remote switch, turned the power on from the unit, and then it worked…but only for 2 times. I turned the inverter off and on a few times to see if it would reset and did the battery cable. Nothing. The thing that seems to work is the display lighting up, but no power. This junk is TRASH. Going to have to buy a new unit because it’s essential to my work and for anyone else who may need one, don’t get this crap.

    Worked well enough

Purchased to use to power some accessories with battery power. This was able to run my full-sized refrigerator, which peaked around 1800W. I like the info on the screen. The battery volt readout was .1V off from my multimeter. I don’t know which is wrong, but it is a small enough difference to not worry about. Taking off one star because the included wires are not the proper gauge for the load rating and would not be safe at continuous high watts that this inverter is rated for.

Limiting Factor Is The Supplied Cable

I purchased the 2,000W inverter which came with a 34″ long 4 AWG cable. The supplied 4 AWG cable will NOT safely handle the full 2,000W rating. To reach the max power of this inverter you will need 2/0 (00 AWG) cable connecting to the battery (AND a battery that will be able to output about a continuous output of 175A). So don’t be surprised if when you use the supplied 4 AWG battery connector cable and attach a 1,350W load and the cables get very warm to the touch! So NO, powering 1,500W space heaters or hair dryers will not work in this configuration! The Instruction Manual states there is an “Input DC Fuse: 10*40A”, but I don’t know what “10*” means (TEN 40A fuses? lol). I emailed Ampeak asking if there is an internal fuse in this inverter and they responded rather quickly, saying YES. I asked what size the fuse is but have not heard back from them. I find it unusual that Ampeak’s marketing description would not include mentioning such an important safety feature. I removed the cover to look for myself and did not see anything that even remotely looked like a fuse or fuses. So…? I’ve also read that this inverter’s AC outlets have been found to be wired incorrectly. So using a multimeter, I measured the following; – Hot/Neutral read 121.3V (should be ~120V—PASS) – Hot/Ground read 0.0V (should be ~120V—FAIL) – Neutral/Ground read 0.0V (should be ~3.0V—FAIL). While connecting and disconnecting loads to this inverter the LCD screen went wacky and started flashing random characters. The only way to clear this… anomaly was to turn the inverter off and back on. Rather inconvenient. In continuing to research this inverter online (which I should have done BEFORE I bought it) I’m finding there are a lot of end users experiencing failures, sooo… this one is going back.

Get the best pure sinewave inverter you can afford.

Nice inverter, Ampeak quality. But it does not power my “700 watt” Magic Chef microwave, because for whatever reason the microwave actually puts out 1180 watts… almost 500 watts over it’s 700 rating. The inverter shuts down and beeps. The same microwave works fine with an Ampeak pure sinewave 2000 and the 2000 powers a mini fridge at the same time too, no problem. So I estimate the real world capacity of this 1500 modified wave converter at 1100 or less. Yes the small fans are kid of loud but not whiny, it’s just the sound of air moving, sounds like ocean waves. They may come on for one second, or 3, or 10 or longer then stop again, etc. I recommend a larger Ampeak pure sine wave converter if it’s in your budget.

The upgrades are in fact upgrades!

I am using this inverter with 4x100W solar panels and a 100Ah battery. I owned the earlier version – which finally gave up the ghost, but no before I worked it HARD. I ran a toaster, kettle, lights and a small fridge off my solar system, as well a recharging a bunch of cordless tools more times than I can recount. This newer model has a couple of upgrades. Firstly, it no longer has an “auto-shut off”. This is such a great improvement, as I was running a small fridge off my solar system, and when the fridge’s compressor switched off, after some time the inverter would turn off too, and not turn back on unless I reset it. Definitely not an ideal situation. Also, the fans are in fact noticeably quieter. All in all, I really like this inverter, even more so with its upgrades!

Can’t run 1500w on one outlet.

Shuts down trying to run a portable 1500w AC unit. I’m guessing the 2000W rating does NOT apply to any single outlet, but is divided between them. Standard 110 outlets should be able to handle 1650w, and there’s nowhere in the instructions or this page stating these outlets can’t handle a standard load on their own.

1500W – Great inverter for work vehicle!

This is a review of the 1500W version (6.2A). I work out of a vehicle primarily and have a laptop onboard with a touchscreen monitor & keyboard that’s mounted in the cab. This inverter wires directly to the battery terminals, which can be tricky for most people. Hooking it up is the easy part, but running the cabling can be quite tricky (if you’re going to do a more permanent installation, you’d run it through the firewall with longer cables – just make sure they’re the 4 gauge). Luckily, the vehicle I operate has the battery in the trunk, so I’ve got the inverter velcro’d in the trunk & cables attached to the battery posts. I then use a heavy-duty extension cable that’s snaked in under the side panels up to the front where I’ve got the monitor plugged in. In the trunk, I’ve got a power strip hooked into the inverter that has the laptop plugged in & the extension cable. So, ultimately, with all of that powered, I use about 28-29W of power consumption according to the screen. That’s… incredibly low for what I’m running. Very impressive. That’s with the computer running fully, plugged in, monitor on, with applications in usage. If you’re going to run something similar like I have, invest in the additional (sold separately) on/off remote switch. It’s what plugs into that little phone-cable looking port, and then you’ll run that where it’s easily accessible, giving you the ability to turn it off remotely. It’s incredibly useful. With my situation, I’d have to pop the trunk to turn off the inverter manually. When I’m on a site, generally I’ll power down my vehicle when I’m outside of the car, so I’ll hit the switch and then when I get back, I’ll power it back on right quick to do some computer work. Previously used a cheaper $30 inverter on Amazon that was around 300W, but quickly found out that it didn’t have the protection nor fuses, and lasted only one month of the rigorous usage I put them through as I’m constantly on the computer in the vehicle. The thing I like the most about this inverter is that it’s a direct battery terminal post hookup. It’s not a socket you’re plugging the inverter into just to have a fuse blow for the outlet – not good! There’s a ton of applications and usages people will use these for. I primarily see them used in work vehicles, especially vans that’s running internal equipment (locksmiths, maintenance vehicles, contractors, etc etc). Recommended.

Easy to use; has multiple outlets.

This 2000W DC – AC power inverter is built solid to last. Attach the two black and red power cables and connect to any 11V – 15V DC battery. A wrench is included. It draws enough power to run any one item – or any combination of items – that draw a total of 2000 watts. There are 3 outputs with ground @ 105V – 125V AC @60Hz pure sine wave, 2 USB 5V DC outlets @ 3.1V Amp and a 12V DC power port. The support frame has bolt placements to mount the unit if needed. Can take a 4000W power surge when power tools first start up. Duel fans help keep it cool. A digital display shows the total wattage being drawn during use. All kinds of uses – charging cell phones, laptops, power equipment batteries. Can run anything that draws 2000W or less. Its only limit is the battery it’s connected to.

    Works great

Does what it’s supposed to, but the panel is the size of a household light switch and it probably costs something like 75 cents USD to manufacture, absurdly overpriced for what it is. I would recommend making your own, turns out it’s very easy to do.
