How Does the Wireless android auto car adapter Measure Up? Assessing Its Gains and Losses
Effortless and Reliable Connection: Many users, including Bill Ledbetter and TB, praise the Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter for its “Easy to install and use” capability, offering a seamless and wireless connection to the car’s display. Bill found the small size advantageous as it allowed him to “hide it in the storage compartment in the dash”, while TB was relieved to “no longer have to manually unlock my phone to use Android Auto”, finding it connected “flawlessly” every time after an initial setup.
High Compatibility and Convenience: Users like Khaled Elajam and Dave experienced consistent connectivity, with Khaled stating it “connects every single time with no drops or lag”, and Dave confirming that it “works perfectly” with multiple vehicles. This suggests the device’s compatibility with a range of car models and its reliability for maintaining a stable connection, significantly improving the driving experience by offering a cable-free solution.
Enhanced User Experience: Customers such as Danny and S. Roe found the device to significantly enhance their in-car tech interaction. Danny noted it was “well worth it for how well it works. Bulletproof!”, and S. Roe expressed delight at the convenience, stating, “It was so easy getting in the car later and voila…connected.” These experiences underline the adapter’s value in delivering a hassle-free user experience.
Connection and Durability Issues: Some users report connection stability problems and a limited lifespan. Jorge Andres Arenas describes his adapter as having turned into “just a brick” after 8 months of use, while Booger Goo experienced it “stops working after a year”. These reviews raise concerns about the device’s reliability over time and its susceptibility to connectivity issues.
Inconvenience and Compatibility Challenges: Despite the positive aspects, there are reports of the adapter not functioning as expected for all users. JR finds it “useless for drives under 15 min” due to the slow startup time, while K9dopecop points out a significant limitation, stating the device “requires VPN to be disabled”, which might be a deal-breaker for privacy-conscious users or those who rely on VPNs for work.
The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
After issues with the initial setup I was going to return it. Gave it another try glad I did. Work really well the setup take a little bite of time to get going but once it does your good. I do have an occasional and sort time issue when it losses Bluetooth connection with phone will reconnect quickly and your back a running. I would recommend that if you are going to get watch a few videos online to help with setup and be patient.
Works great when it finally connects, unfortunately i live in a small town and am at my destination 95% of the time before it finally connects…….useless for drives under 15 min.
Understanding More: Questions Answered and Explained
What is the Motorola MA1, and how does it work? The Motorola MA1 is a wireless car adapter that allows you to connect your smartphone to your car’s display without the need for cables. It’s a direct plug-in USB adapter that uses Wi-Fi to communicate with your phone, enabling you to access Android Auto wirelessly. Once plugged into your car’s USB port, the adapter pairs with your phone, and Android Auto starts automatically when you start your car, giving you access to navigation, music, and more.
Is the adapter compatible with all cars and smartphones? The adapter is designed to work with any car that has Android Auto support and a USB port. However, it is important to note that the car must have Android Auto capabilities. As for smartphones, it works with most Android phones that support Android Auto. It is recommended to check the compatibility with your specific car model and smartphone before purchasing.
How do I set up the adapter in my car?Setting up the adapter is straightforward. You plug it into your car’s USB port designated for Android Auto, pair it with your smartphone via Wi-Fi, and follow any on-screen instructions. The device typically pairs automatically once the initial setup is done, so you don’t need to reconnect manually every time.
Does the Motorola MA1 adapter require a power source? The adapter is powered through the USB port in your car. There’s no need for an external power source or battery. As long as your car is running or the accessory mode is on, the adapter will be powered and functional.
Can I still use my car’s USB port for charging while using the adapter? While the adapter occupies the USB port it’s plugged into, it typically does not prevent you from charging your phone. Many cars have multiple USB ports, so you can use another port for charging. If there is only one port, some users opt for a USB splitter or hub to retain charging capabilities alongside the adapter’s functionality.
What happens if I receive a call while using the adapter? When you receive a call, Android Auto will handle it just like it would with a wired connection. The call interface will appear on your car’s screen, and you can answer using the car’s controls. Your music or navigation will pause or lower in volume, and resume once the call is finished.
Is there any latency or delay when using the adapter for navigation or music? The adapter is designed to offer a seamless and responsive experience. There should be minimal latency or delay when using apps for navigation or music streaming. However, the performance can be influenced by factors like the smartphone’s processing power, the car’s head unit capabilities, and the quality of the Wi-Fi connection between the adapter and the phone.

Great promise, didn’t deliver
Pros: – Easy to install Con’s: – Routinely disconnects from your phone – No real way to troubleshoot, it either works or doesn’t

Update = dead
Updated my andriod auto on a 2023 mazda cx5. Causes the ma1 to become useless brick.

Fairly reliable device but gel pad included to adhere it is a joke
I use this in my 2024 Niro EV. It has worked great for both phones I’ve used it for (Samsung S20FE and Samsung S24+). On occasion, it will disconnect or fail to connect to my phone in which case I just unplug it and plug it back in quickly. The only drawback is the sticky gel pad they include will not hold the adapter in place upside down so I used some heavy duty double stick 3M tape so now it’s out of the way of my wireless charger.

Works perfectly for my Hyundai Ioniq 6 to provide me Android Auto!
After initial pairing it has always just worked. Does take about 15-20 seconds to connect once you start up the car, but it’s not to always have Android Auto.
port_harbor –
Works well, easy setup
This product works well and was easy to install and set up in my 2021 Bronco Sport. It connects automatically every time with a slight delay of no more than a minute. Works great on shorter or mid range trips. I have noticed that maps will sometimes freeze or show a black screen if switching too quickly between the radio control and android auto. It usually corrects itself with an other screen switch and some patience. On longer trips of 2 hours or more, the unit tends to get hot and may disconnect every once in a while. I’m not sure how long it will ultimately last but I keep a usb cord in my vehicle as a backup.

Works as expected
Finally, cord free android auto. Just plug it in and Bluetooth to phone. Everything works great and connects easy every time I get in the car. Love it

Be mindful of the connection
I purchased a wireless android auto adapter for my car a few months ago and I have stopped using it altogether. I gave it 3 stars for a particular reason, the connectivity. Once paired to your phone and car, the device automatically loads android auto. This is a really nice feature because you do not have to fidget with your phone for anything. The biggest problem that I am encountering is that I lose connectivity between my phone, the device and the car or the car, the device and the phone. Losing connectivity affects Google Maps, my music/podcasts etc. While it is not the end of the world, it is annoying to have to wait for the devices to reconnect with each other. I am going to switch back to a USB cable for more consistent connectivity.

Works well so far!
Setup was a little complicated to get my phone to see the Bluetooth device. Also the device is not Motorola MA1 but named android_xxx instead. Once connected then I had to get my auto to start android auto. Once setup then android auto on my phone connects and works fine. The MA1 can be a little slow to connect but nothing too long. It is not worst than my phone connecting Bluetooth wireless audio direct connect to my head unit.

Sometimes it works
First of all I like this product when it connects. But sometimes it turn on and sometimes I have to mess with it to come on very weird if you ask me. Went though all settings but I keep hearing the prompt that it trying to start up android auto. Might have to go back to the plug. Because it sometimes just kick itself out of android auto stay of for about 40 seconds then reconnects..
MTCca –
Its not easy as it says to connect.
I have a AAWireless device as well and had an app which made it esier to connect. Think i might go back to using it.

Breaks after a year.
Like others have mentioned, it works really well for about a year. It worked for 10 months in my case. Then just stopped working all of the sudden.
W. L. Wallace –
Worked awesome for a year
Bought this almost exactly a year ago and loved it. Works seamlessly after first plug in. Kind of an awkward length but I made it work. It conked out this weekend on the way to Palm Springs. Will probably get it again!
Clams –
Pretty good
This works pretty well but consistently cuts out in certain geographical areas. Specifically, I live in Seattle, and it shuts off multiple times every day when driving through downtown. When I’ve used it on long trips in less urban areas, it’s fine and doesn’t shut off at all.
Sheldon McDonald –
Latency and WiFi connection
It has some latency to it and also I have a 2023 Tacoma and I get wifi Hotspot from my truck but whenever I use this device it connects to my phone via WiFi so I can’t use the wifi Hotspot from my truck while using the android auto wirelessly, but otherwise it works as intended.
Samly Chanthaboune –
Defective after 2 years!
I bought this in 2022. It was working fine but now it decided to crap out in 2024. Tech support said it has failed. Warranty only covers 1 year. Now it’s only trash.
Jafeth –
Works as described
No more debating whether to fast-charge or to get AA on my 2021 Mazda CX30, had an issue when setting it up where I had to plug the device to a phone charger in order to pair via Bluetooth, but other than that, no issue.

Great seller!
And works just fine!
DavidP –
I bought this as a pre-order years ago and its still going strong.
This has been a great device. It work for both phones I have paired and instantly connects the one I have on me. No complaints. Would definitely buy this again.
Jared Berman –
Lasted a little over a year
It worked great for just over a year but today it randomly disconnected and I noticed it was very hot. I unplugged it and let it cool off and now it cuts in and out every 30 seconds.
Andreas T. –
Really good
This was used on a Lexus RX450h 2021. Works flawlessly. Android auto connects very fast. Very much recommended and yes i would buy again.
Flummoxx –
Failed after 19 months.
It was purchased in November 2022 and worked well until it stopped working in May 2024. It stopped connecting to my radio and upon trying to factory reset the device, flashed non-sensical LED color combinations found in neither the instruction manual or Motorola’s website. For an electronic device that is pretty much set it once and forget it, 19 months of operation is a pretty atrocious lifespan. I recommend looking elsewhere for a Android Auto wireless adapter.
KJ –
Worked for few months
Worked perfectly for a month or so, then started disconnecting. Now it doesn’t connect at all. Tried all tricks on the Internet. Moto website, trouble shooting, reddit…. nothing worked. I got a new device from another brand. This one is not Motorola quality for sure.
Andrew S. –
Worked great for 8 months
This product was awesome for 8 months. Connected quick and didnt really need to do anything. But then it stopped working. Disconnected randomly so I tried to reset it and get a fresh start. It now wont even reset and definitely wont connect for android auto. Works great for some time then stops and not worth it
Jeffrey D Ghioto –
Died in 13 months
It worked great for a year, then almost 13 months to the day went dead. Will not connect to my phone at all. Shame, too, as it was a really seamless, well integrated unit
Brandamo –
Worked well until it didn’t.
Product worked well for the first eight months. Started experiencing connectivity issues and it officially died two days ago and refuses to connect to my phone or my vehicle.
JR A –
Dead after 1.5 yrs.
Unfortunately device died after 1.5 yrs. If you plan on getting one maybe worth the insurance… also connection is in and out, bit noticed it was on specific locations so it is prone to jamming or interference. I would have expected it to Last much longer than it did.
Ben Barefoot –
Just buy it
I used the cheap Chinese version of this thing before and this thing is hands down 1,000,000 times better in every way possible, it auto connects to my car within about 15 seconds of cranking it up.
Sergey Rasskazov –
It works stable.
I’m using no-name wireless CarPlay adapter and it has much more problems than Motorola with Android Auto. The good purchase
Rick –
Just stopped working…
It does work with Andriod OS 14, I’m currently paired with two of these with an S24. With that, one has worked flawlessly for two years, and the other has just decided to stop working. I can’t reset it, use it, etc. This is a solid-state device with no firmware updates and zero support from Motorola.
DaytonaDan –
No more wires, cheaper than dealer upgrade
I have a 2018 Honda that is eligible for an upgrade that turns a wired Android Auto system into a wireless one, for the low low price of $200. Pretty outlandish for a simple software upgrade This is a lot cheaper and seems to do the same thing. Maps, routing, streaming music all work fine (I have a newer phone, which is important) . You have to eat up a USB port to do this and phone burns up a lot more battery power in wireless mode (not to mention gets a lot hotter). But this is a budget solution if you want a wireless setup.
Amazon Customer –
Worked for 16 months. 1 year warranty.
It was nice while it lasted. Ironically, I bought this to fix a android auto issue with a Motorola phone as it wouldn’t work on a USB cable. Now I have a Motorola phone that won’t work with android auto, and a Motorola wireless device that won’t show up as a device that can be connected to. Factory reset does nothing. Support says it’s bricked and that I should buy a new one. I think I’m going to avoid Motorola products from now on.

Short life
It worked great for 11 months the it died. I purchased a different device (LOBOAIR) from Amazon and installed it today. Installation was easy and function is great. I’ll update if and when it fails. Hopefully it will last longer than the Motorola device.
TonyMey –
Works great.
Easy to connect and works great 👍
Norma M. –
Dissapointing
Purchased this less than a yr ago and it stopped working. Light stays red and I can’t seem to factory reset. Worked great when it did work just very dissapointing it didn’t even last a full year. No longer available in Amazon so I can’t reach out to seller but I will try to contact Motorola directly and will report back here.
Julieta Perez –
Easy to connect
Very easy to connect/clear instructions. Works perfectly. My only regret is not finding this device sooner. Worth the money.

Bought two and here is my review
This is a review after a little over a year. I bought two of these one for my car which is my daily driver (2019 Subaru Impreza with stock head unit) and my truck (1997 Chevy Silverado aftermarket BOSS head unit). The one in my truck works great no issues no slowness or laggy. Takes about 10-15 seconds for it to load up and my phone to connect. I do not drive my truck every day only when I need to haul or tow something so not a lot of use with it. Now to the one in my car. This one has given me so many issues. First thing is when driving for long trips it would like to randomly crash and disconnect which is not great for when you are using navigation. I would touch the device itself when that happens and it is hot to the touch so it might be overheating. The next thing is there would be certain locations that would make the device crash. Every time I would get in the same spot on the highway there must be some type of wireless or something that jams this thing and cuts the connection. Also not good for when you are using navigation. It has also at times weather it’s getting hot or it’s a compatibility with my car would get slow or laggy. You’d hit the next button on your steering wheel or radio and it would take 8-10 seconds to change the song as well as using navigation would be choppy. The one on my car ended up finally giving up and will no longer allow my phone to connect. I’ve tried resetting the device forgetting and reconnecting to it and it acts as if it just keeps turning on and off. You look at the Bluetooth connection and it does what other people have said is happening to them in other reviews. It connects and disconnects over and over. Happened in the middle of using it. Luckily it wasn’t in the middle of navigation. I would love to say this device is a good buy because the one in my truck works but it doesn’t get as much use. So sadly I wouldn’t recommend to get this device.

Awesome for wireless android auto!
Product did exactly what is claims! Works just like wired android auto but this makes it so much easier to use not having to worry about cords and all that. 10/10

Really helpful
Really nice to not have to use a cable for android auto. Works great and has been a really nice upgrade to my car

Not for pre-2020 vehicles.
Useless for my 2014 Toyota with GPS display. This should be stated outright!
IcemanLV –
Working as advertised
It’s an easy install. May have to turn off your VPN.

Not connecting after a year
It was working fine for 11 month. One day just stopped connecting. It does not worth the money as it won’t last.

Doesn’t stay connected
Audio skips when using this.

must have
was skeptical at first but after setup android auto runs wirelessly seamlessly like it was a factory feature on my car.

Finally
Easy setup… out of sight tucked away. Look ma no cords… seamless connection…. and no change on audio sound….

No more bad connections
This thing makes android auto soooo much better. No more struggles with a cord and bad connectivity. Take about a minute to connect each time I start my car. Has not disconnected once. Love it
Rob G. –
Great product — for only 15 months…
Product worked perfectly!! Until it didn’t… Setup was easy, and product worked perfectly with my Google Pixel 7 Pro and my Pioneer Head until. Purchased the product in January of 2003, but in April of 2004, the product just stopped working and would no longer connect to my phone. Nothing changed on my phone (no system updates, and no app updates), it just stopped connecting. I tried every possible solution I could find in the tech forums (I work in information technology, so I am not new to this). Unfortunately, the product is only warrantied for a year, so I’m out of luck. Trying a different product now.

Invest in velcro
This is truly a great device. It does exactly what it’s designed to do. My only complaint is the gel stick pad that comes with it. It’s horrible. Your milage may vary, but it would not stay stuck to any surface in my car. Using small velcro circles was the ticket to keeping this mounted in an inconspicuous place. Overall I’m completely satisfied with the actual product.
