How Does the Wireless android auto car adapter Measure Up? Assessing Its Gains and Losses
Effortless and Reliable Connection: Many users, including Bill Ledbetter and TB, praise the Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter for its “Easy to install and use” capability, offering a seamless and wireless connection to the car’s display. Bill found the small size advantageous as it allowed him to “hide it in the storage compartment in the dash”, while TB was relieved to “no longer have to manually unlock my phone to use Android Auto”, finding it connected “flawlessly” every time after an initial setup.
High Compatibility and Convenience: Users like Khaled Elajam and Dave experienced consistent connectivity, with Khaled stating it “connects every single time with no drops or lag”, and Dave confirming that it “works perfectly” with multiple vehicles. This suggests the device’s compatibility with a range of car models and its reliability for maintaining a stable connection, significantly improving the driving experience by offering a cable-free solution.
Enhanced User Experience: Customers such as Danny and S. Roe found the device to significantly enhance their in-car tech interaction. Danny noted it was “well worth it for how well it works. Bulletproof!”, and S. Roe expressed delight at the convenience, stating, “It was so easy getting in the car later and voila…connected.” These experiences underline the adapter’s value in delivering a hassle-free user experience.
Connection and Durability Issues: Some users report connection stability problems and a limited lifespan. Jorge Andres Arenas describes his adapter as having turned into “just a brick” after 8 months of use, while Booger Goo experienced it “stops working after a year”. These reviews raise concerns about the device’s reliability over time and its susceptibility to connectivity issues.
Inconvenience and Compatibility Challenges: Despite the positive aspects, there are reports of the adapter not functioning as expected for all users. JR finds it “useless for drives under 15 min” due to the slow startup time, while K9dopecop points out a significant limitation, stating the device “requires VPN to be disabled”, which might be a deal-breaker for privacy-conscious users or those who rely on VPNs for work.

Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
After issues with the initial setup I was going to return it. Gave it another try glad I did. Work really well the setup take a little bite of time to get going but once it does your good. I do have an occasional and sort time issue when it losses Bluetooth connection with phone will reconnect quickly and your back a running. I would recommend that if you are going to get watch a few videos online to help with setup and be patient.
Works great when it finally connects, unfortunately i live in a small town and am at my destination 95% of the time before it finally connects…….useless for drives under 15 min.
Understanding More: Questions Answered and Explained
What is the Motorola MA1, and how does it work? The Motorola MA1 is a wireless car adapter that allows you to connect your smartphone to your car’s display without the need for cables. It’s a direct plug-in USB adapter that uses Wi-Fi to communicate with your phone, enabling you to access Android Auto wirelessly. Once plugged into your car’s USB port, the adapter pairs with your phone, and Android Auto starts automatically when you start your car, giving you access to navigation, music, and more.
Is the adapter compatible with all cars and smartphones? The adapter is designed to work with any car that has Android Auto support and a USB port. However, it is important to note that the car must have Android Auto capabilities. As for smartphones, it works with most Android phones that support Android Auto. It is recommended to check the compatibility with your specific car model and smartphone before purchasing.
How do I set up the adapter in my car?Setting up the adapter is straightforward. You plug it into your car’s USB port designated for Android Auto, pair it with your smartphone via Wi-Fi, and follow any on-screen instructions. The device typically pairs automatically once the initial setup is done, so you don’t need to reconnect manually every time.
Does the Motorola MA1 adapter require a power source? The adapter is powered through the USB port in your car. There’s no need for an external power source or battery. As long as your car is running or the accessory mode is on, the adapter will be powered and functional.
Can I still use my car’s USB port for charging while using the adapter? While the adapter occupies the USB port it’s plugged into, it typically does not prevent you from charging your phone. Many cars have multiple USB ports, so you can use another port for charging. If there is only one port, some users opt for a USB splitter or hub to retain charging capabilities alongside the adapter’s functionality.
What happens if I receive a call while using the adapter? When you receive a call, Android Auto will handle it just like it would with a wired connection. The call interface will appear on your car’s screen, and you can answer using the car’s controls. Your music or navigation will pause or lower in volume, and resume once the call is finished.
Is there any latency or delay when using the adapter for navigation or music? The adapter is designed to offer a seamless and responsive experience. There should be minimal latency or delay when using apps for navigation or music streaming. However, the performance can be influenced by factors like the smartphone’s processing power, the car’s head unit capabilities, and the quality of the Wi-Fi connection between the adapter and the phone.

Simple and works great.
With all the options out there, this was super easy. No need for a.special app or firmware updates. Just plug in, connect Bluetooth, and it works. Bought 2 and my non tech savy wife set hers up on her own. Can’t go wrong with Motorola.
Ollie –
Works right out the box.
30 sec set up. Would have been 15 if I pulled up my BT instead of Wi-Fi menu. dongle is much smaller than what it looks like in the picture.
Namho Kim –
Works great.
After getting this simple item, driving is more convenient. No worry for disconnection and long usb line mingling. Perfect for my wifi life in car.

Great idea but has some flaws
Great idea and works great but the device automatically connects to your phone all the time. It gets annoying when your on the phone.

Long term review: If you buy this you’ll regret it.
I’ve had this just shy of one year and the experience with this is mid to terrible. Most of the time it’s having connection issues. I kept giving it a try only because I spent $99 on it. Now it’s cheaper but I would not recommend it. You will regret it every time it can’t connect and it becomes irritating while driving loosing the ability to connect to your car. Sure it’s a brand name device but it will frustrate you most of the time.

This solved my Android auto disconnection issues
The head unit in our Toyota Tacoma pickup truck typically requires connection via USB cable to the phone in order to use Android Auto. This has presented a problem with continual disconnects regardless of the phone or cable (and I’ve changed out the cable multiple times). This wireless Android Auto adapter worked flawlessly from the get-go. Set up was straightforward, and connected easily to my phone. I’m quite pleased with this wireless adapter.

This was recommended by a friend.
This was received as promised. It is being used on my Harley Davidson trike. Works perfect as a wireless Android auto transfer to the navigation screen.

works 50% of the time
no rime or reason, when it works it’s fine, when it doesn’t it’s frustrating. sometimes it loads sometimes not. no changes being made to the unit. just a mind of it’s own

Stopped working
I have had this product for 361 Days and it has completely stopped working. Won’t connect to my car, Or my phone anymore. Since day one it would randomly disconnect. But very rarely. It would gradually do it more and more. Until yesterday when it disconnected and never came back. Unplugged it from my car and plugged it back in.Tried to reconnect my phone would never connect. Turned off the car turned it back on still nothing.

Only lasted a year.
Lasted a year. This morning was in a continuous loop connecting and disconnecting from my car. Disconnected the device. When I got back into the car this afternoon, plugged it back in, started the car, it wouldn’t recognize the device and it would not pair with my phone.

Disappointing 😞
I have a 2023 Kia Forte, and a Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G cellphone. In the morning after not being used for several hours, it connects flawlessly. Stop to get gas and it won’t reconnect. Stop by my office and come back out 15 minutes later, it won’t connect. If it does reconnect, it is 5 to 10 minutes down the road. I find myself constantly having to unplug it and plug it back it to get it to connect. I might as well just use my cable. I would not recommend this product. I have loved my Motorola cell phone and had hoped that this would work great as it is by Motorola as well. Unfortunately I was mistaken. Save your money and just use your cable.

It just works.
I have a hyundai sonata, and to use Android Auto you have to plug your phone into the data and charging USB hub. Problem is, that hub provides such little power that while using anything on your phone (spotify, Maps, etc) while driving doesnt actually result in your phone charging. Enter this lil dongle. No longer have to plug in to use Android Auto. But what about charging, you ask? Enter step 2 of my plan, a car charger(that plugs into the cigarette lighter spot), which pushes way more juice to charge my phone. Here’s the link for that if you care, not sponsored. It too works great. ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B3CSLPZR?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details ) I’d say i’ll be back to update in a few months but lets be real. I’m not gonna give any more thought to this review after I push the submit button at the end of it. Toodles!

works for ~5 months then needs replacement
Initially purchased a generic wireless AA adapter from amazon intermittently worked and failed. Swithed to the MA1 and it worked nearly perfectly/consistently. As other reviewers have mentioned, somewhere in the 5 month range it stops working no matter what troubleshooting steps are taken. I spoke with support, they very quickly sent me a new unit and all was well. …. Until another 5 months went by and I am in the same boat. I am still under 1 years and it has failed twice, and will see if support will send me new unit otherwise will try my chances on a different device.
Christopher Holtzapple –
Completely unreliable
I’ve had 2 of these because my first one died after just a couple months. I’m on my second unit, and it has now died as well, just a few days out of the warranty period. Do not buy this. It works fine until it just dies one day and never functions again. This is a very common problem.
RJS –
Great while it worked
I purchased one back in November 2023 and in April 2024 it just stopped working. it’ll just keep saying “Reading USB” and then nothing where as when it worked great it would say “Reading USB” and the a second later “Connecting to Android Auto” and boom.. Great.. now it’s just stuck in a loop of “Reading USB” pinged tech support a week ago and no response.
Jared –
Didn’t last a full year
I really do like this product. It always connected promptly and gave me no problems. Unfortunately it died after 9 months and the seller doesn’t offer support. So I now have to contact Motorola outside of Amazon and we will see if I can get it resolved

Works great
Works as it should to make my Sony radio wireless android auto, sometimes it don’t connect automatically and I have to hit my Bluetooth button to make it connect but other than that I love it

A must have for Android auto
I like using android auto and it just seems to be that every car I use it with, will disconnect and just annoy me…I also wanted to start using a wireless charger on my phone while in the car because I am a delivery driver and it’s hard on the phone constantly disconnecting from the charger..so I assumed there had to be some way to make it wireless. When I stumbled upon this…I didn’t hesitate at all once I read the reviews and saw the videos. There has been a hiccup or two but only because I erased the hands free link. You will see that wifi connects to,”android auto wireless device,” and then the Bluetooth says, “hands free link,” when hooked up. I keep it plugged in all the time and every single time I get in the car my music as well as everything else comes through the device. If you use android auto, GET THIS! IT IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE!

Didn’t even last a year….
When it worked it was great but it died less than a year…… Connects quickly but wish it lasted longer than 10 months……

Not great for 22 Subaru outback
The screen display was the same size as my phone, despite my car screen being 11 inches. So that defeated the purpose for me. I wanted to use my Google maps, but if the screen it shows is still just the size of my phone, I might as well just use my phone. I tried all kinds of settings and nothing worked. I even looked up tips online and nothing worked for my car to make the display take up more of my screen. This also rendered like, over half of my screen useless. It was literally just empty space. And to make matter worse, the buttons on my steering wheel didn’t work to change the songs playing. I’d have to hit the tiny buttons on the screen to change the song, which was super dangerous. They’re so small. I’d give up because most of the time I’d miss the button and I didn’t want to keep my eyes off the road trying to hit it just right. It also always reset to a split screen when I started the car. So I’d have to switch it to show just my Spotify every time. Super annoying honestly. I use my maps like, 2% of the time. It’s not what I want to pop up everytime I drive. Lastly, it would get really hot if I drove more than a half hour. So that was concerning. Overall I just don’t think this works well for a 22 Subaru outback.

Pretty flashing lights!
Worked one time. Might as well use the cord for all the time spent trying to keep this thing paired. Android Auto ain’t nothing to brag about either. At least the cord will charge your phone.
Marcus Williams –
Look elsewhere
I was quite happy with this adapter at first. It was easy to use and connected up with no issues. Shortly after the one year warranty expired it will no longer keep its connection. As soon as the connection is established the unit appears to reboot itself. After seeing so many people with similar issues I will avoid Motorola products from now on

Dies within 1 year
When it works it is a great product. The issue is the first one died just after the warranty was up. They were good and sent a replacement knowing I was just beyond the warranty. The warranty one died 8 months after that. No replacements on the warranty item. If you are good with buying a new one every year than this is the product for you. For me it’s on to a competitor product now.

Great product

Works almost flawlessly
Car: 2023 Kia K5 Phone: Pixel 8 I have had this unit for a little over a month now. 99 percent of the time it will do exactly what you want it to. It successfully creates a wireless android auto experience. The initial set up takes a couple minutes. Once set up I have not had one issue of the device not connecting to my phone. The amount of time it takes to connect your phone varies from 10 seconds to up to 1 minute. The longest connection time frame seems to be the first time I start my car for the day. Not sure if there is any reason for that or if I’m imagining it. I have only ran into one issue this far with the unit. 3 times, upon starting my car, Google Maps fails to load. There is no easy solution to this. You have to unplug the device from the USB and power cycle. The issue has resolved every time I do this. I drive around a lot for work and not having to connect my phone repeatedly as I drive around all day is a great thing. You don’t have to worry about Android auto closing because of bumping your phone cord. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a wireless alternative for Android Auto.

Finally!
At first it kept asking me for a password. But after resetting the device and the counting to it they Bluetooth it began to work. Takes about 30 seconds to connect when I start vehicle. Stuck it in glove box. Loving it

Died on it’s 1 year birthday
Bought 2 of these – 1 for my car, 1 for my husband’s car. They both stopping working after exactly 1 year of use. Performance over that time was better in my Subaru than in his Audi. A bit buggy behavior from time to time. Will not purchase again.

Unable to establish BT connection with my iPhone
Not sure if the product was iPhone compatable or not, but i was never able to make it connect to my phone. I had to return it and in search of a another brand.

DO NOT BUY
Do not buy, it may work for some time, then enters into a look from factory mode and it won’t work again.

It’s okay
The is okay, but not great. It works good, but stops working from time to time and having to reload. Plus it takes to long for the loading process to boot up. Not a big fan.

Just what I needed! This works great!
I have a 2018 RAM 1500 and it supports android auto, USB 2.0 and bluetooth 2.0. Typically, you would just use bluetooth to run android auto and other functionality, however, since my display only supports bluetooth 2.0, android auto doesn’t work over bluetooth. The combination will work if I have bluetooth and the USB cable connected, but over the past several few months, android auto has had a mind of its own. It starts calling people and setting google maps in different directions. Very strange. I suspect the combination of the USB and Bluetooth functionality was causing the strange behavior. That lead me to purchase this product. I was looking for something I could connect to my existing USB port (able handle android auto) and had bluetooth 3.0. Now I have my Pixel only configurated with bluetooth and everything works great! Highly recommend this product.

Promising. . .but not reliable
When the MA1 works, it’s pretty cool. When. It. Works. The problem is that there is a good chance it’ll eventually fail. My first MA1 failed within a year of ownership. Motorola was great in sending out a replacement based upon their one year warranty. The replacement worked. . .for 8 months. Motorola support initially said that they wouldn’t replace because the warranty is based on the original (failed) unit, not the replacement. They eventually said they’d go ahead and send another replacement. . .which has been confirmed. Should arrive in 10-15 days.

System fails a lot
At the beginning very happy with the results, esasy set up, good conection, transforming the rudimentary screen of the car to Android, then it begin to shut down y some areas, but not clear because is a Bluetooth conection, but keeps shuting down, and it turns dangerous, because the phone not reproduce soung you cant hear if someone calls, you mus disconet de phone via Bluetooth and the cable, i have to stop several times , because it fail in the middle of a important call while driving you CANNOT update de system so does work some time and others not

An Amazing Connection
I bought this adapter after watching a YouTube video and I was totally amazed that it is as good as advertised. Simply plug & play. Connect through bluetooth and enjoy the results. If you need a USB cable plugged into your phone to access Android Auto or Apple Carplay, get one of these and Cut the Cord!

So far so good…Was hesitant on getting it due to the reviews and fingers crossed that it last but so far its worked Good! I talked to amazon since they don’t show a way to do a extended warranty on it and they sent me a link to do one…it was $16.99 for two years so I thought a little high a cost………..I will update if things go bad…I

Wireless Android Auto
I have a nice Kenwood head unit with GPS and compatible with Android Auto/Car Play. The only drawback is it requires connecting my phone with a USB cable to work. I purchased this wireless adapter so I would not have to plug it in any longer. Now my phone connects automatically when I get in the vehicle. Setup was very simple and straightforward.
np –
works perfectly > 90% of the time
This gives you wireless android auto in older cars that otherwise require a wired connection…95% of time, but occasionally glitches. It’s way cheaper than a new car.
Steve –
Works well although occasionally disconnect
I really like this wireless Android auto connection. The one thing that’s a bit annoying is that you have to connect via Wi-Fi and so when I’m in my garage getting ready to leave it my phone disconnects from my home network and connects up to the device. In my garage I don’t get a good cell signal and so if I haven’t set up my maps or other things that need Network I have to wait till I get outside the garage so my cell signal works. Occasionally it will disconnect but it generally Auto connects right back so it’s an inconvenience but not terrible and it doesn’t happen all the time just occasionally. This is so much better than connecting via wire which was always wiggling and getting loose and disconnecting and not reconnecting.

Unreliable. Frequently cuts out
Unreliable. Frequently cuts out while driving and results in loss of navigation. It used to happen an hour or so into a drive, but it has also recently happened only a few minutes after starting. It usually takes several minutes before the device is working again and able to reconnect

Good while it lasted

It works
Works just as intended, plugged it right into my parents car and was able to do wireless Android auto. Great little product thank you

Requires car restart to reconnect
It’s an excellent dongle and connects easily. The only issue I have is that it takes forever (mostly never) to reconnect if you leave don’t turn off the car.
