Breaking Down the Blue driver obd scanner: Where Do Its Promises and Pitfalls Lie?
User-Friendly and Comprehensive: The BlueDriver Bluetooth Pro OBDII Scan Tool is celebrated for its user-friendly interface and extensive features. As Michael points out, it is “so user-friendly” that it suits both novices and experienced mechanics. Additionally, he appreciates the inclusion of videos, notes, and an “excellent support department” that further enhance the user experience.
Accurate Diagnostics: Many users, like James Weathers, praise the BlueDriver for its accurate diagnostic capabilities. James mentions that it “has been able to scan without issues” on various car models, including a Mazda, BMW, and Ford. This precision in detecting and reporting diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) makes it a reliable tool for car owners.
Cost-Effective and Time-Saving: Adam C. highlights the cost-effectiveness and convenience of the BlueDriver. He shares that it “paid for itself in less than a week” by enabling him to diagnose and repair his vehicle without a costly trip to the mechanic. This aspect is particularly beneficial for users looking to save money and avoid the hassle of visiting repair shops.
Limited Compatibility with Certain Car Models: Some users have reported issues with the BlueDriver’s compatibility with specific car brands. For instance, Diego found the device “useless for Porsche or BMW” as it failed to detect basic error codes on his 2015 Macan and 2017 X6, which were detected by other tools. This suggests that potential buyers should verify compatibility with their car models before purchasing.
Incomplete Data and Missing Features: Ken A. notes that the BlueDriver provides “minimal sensor info” compared to cheaper alternatives. He experienced this limitation with his 2018 Volvo, where it did not display critical information such as transmission temperature and oil temperature. Users looking for comprehensive sensor data might find the BlueDriver lacking in this aspect.
The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
I bought 2 ODB scanners from 2 different manufactures at the same time. ANCEL obd2 scanner was returned for refund because it couldn’t detect and report the 4 DTCs which the BlueDriver could. I’ll keep the BlueDriver. My car are 2013 Toyota Sienna & 2003 Acura TL 3.2.
The hubs has had this for quite awhile not used many times yet from what he has said he isn’t disappointed, said he’d buy again!

Great scanner
I have been a mechanic since the late 80’s. I still write service for a garage. This scanner is perfect. I was amazed at what this little thing can do. Even my customers are amazed. I would recommend this to anyone, professional or novice.

I’m not easily impressed, but
This product is amazing. Easy to use right out of the box, intuitive, accurate and does exactly what it claims. I was able to check my OBD data, find the reason (minor) why my check engine light was on, and clear the code. The fact that it has real-time data, support videos, and tips as you go along is icing on the cake. Had I scheduled an appt at MB to have my vehicle checked it would have cost twice what this unit cost, so it’s already more than paid for itself. I also like that I can toss it in the glovebox; it’s small and weighs nothing, unlike hand held units which take up space. Lastly, being iPhone based it’s always updating software and features, which hand held units cannot do. Highly recommended!

Big mistake
It did not connect to the Bluetooth at all. Even though I called support and went through the steps several times. This happened straight out the box. I was highly disappointed

BlueDriver Bluetooth Pro OBD2 Car Scan Tool and Code Reader
Served it’s purpose awesome diagnostic tool.

Best scanner
This little scanner saves me money. No subscription to pay for. All free. This little device paid for it itself and then some. It tells what’s wrong with your car. Easy app to use with it. Connects Bluetooth so make sure you have it on. Accuracy is on point.

Not the greatest
I purchased this after seeing many glowing reviews online and this one doesn’t live up to the hype. It has very limited capabilities and the fact that it’s wireless, is more of a downside, in my opinion. Unable to retrieve live data and I have had a couple of error code misreadings. I am going to go wired when it comes to an obd2 reader…

Great! BlueDriver detects DTCs that other device like ANCEL can’t

Highly Recommend This OBD Scanner for iPhone
Excellent OBD scanner for iPhone. I recommend it for checking basic information about your vehicle before taking it to the shop.

gets the job done
been using it for about a year or so and it’s all you need in a scanner. the only part i wish was a bit better would be how easily it connects to cars. i scan multiple cars a day or maybe a friend needs me to scan theirs, this scanner takes maybe 10 minutes to decide to connect and maybe another 10 to fully scan. besides that i enjoy it, helps with most issues and gives links to some fixes
R Gosling –
Easy to set up and use, needs odometer
It does all the things you expect from an an ODB II reader except easily report the current miles driven. I know this data element is supported by the standard, but couldn’t figure out how to see it. Overall, I like it and think it shows a more advanced way to get this data. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to support the very thing I needed from it.

James Weathers –
Perfect Tool for my Needs
I’ve been using this scanner on a 2010 Mazda 3, a 2016 BMW X1, and a 2000 Ford Ranger. It has been able to scan without issues and being able to monitor the live data is a really nice feature.
Chris W. Adams –
The best Bluetooth Scanner
Bought it as recommended by Scotty Kilmer; it’s certainly amazing how many features it has considering it’s only a Bluetooth scanner. I highly suggest getting one to scan used cars from FB Marketplace.
Raul Carter –
All around great product with steller support
When I first used this scan tool I was very impressed on it capabilities, and I was further impressed by the tech support that I needed 9 months later. Its really an old school way of selling and backing a product especially at a hundred bucks. You cant go wrong.
Jay –
Works as intended
Easy to set up, easy to use and understand. Very impressed but it would be nice for the codes to be a bit more descriptive or precise. Not bad for having around the house but will never replace Snap on, Mac etc… brand scanners.
Brad –
It is everything you need and more. BlueDriver is exceptional. Pays for itself.
This trusted brand and tool is one of the best purchases I have made as far as investing in the ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair things MYSELF, saving me much more money and time by not being dependant on repair shops. It does WAY more than I’ve used it for so far, but just knowing the differnt diagnostic tools are right there should I need them (or in some cases learn how to use them) is worth every penny. I couldn’t recommend this high enough. Don’t be fooled by imitation very basic “readers” that are extremely limited, or a no-name wanna-be just to save a few dollars.
Thomas J. Buto –
Easy to use
Gave accurate code with little setup
The Direktor –
Doesn’t help with wastegate voltage and isn’t FULLY compatible with Kias
It does a good job of reading and clearing SOME error codes but doesn’t have any testing capability and gives a wealth of useless live information but doesn’t give voltage readouts on actuators at least for Kia/Hyundai which is why I got this to begin with.
markspark –
stopped after 2 years, no support
stopped after 2 years, no support. worthless website for help. Update function does not work, contact us does not work, order sensor does not work. User manual does not work. Junk product.

Just what I needed… does all the things I would have to pay the mechanic to do!
kyle Williams –
Code reader, live diagnostics, clear check engine, ect.
I have been using Blue Driver for a couple years now. Recently had to by a new one because I lost my previous one. My 2008 Mazda 3 had a ton of diagnostic options, but I hooked it up to a 2012 Lexus and it probably had 1/3 the options. So I would look up your car make and model before purchasing. There are still plenty of other diagnostic scanners that will be perfect for your car. For the price though, you can’t beat it.
adam c –
While not a replacement for a good mechanic, it can save you visits to the shop & save you money!
This thing paid for itself in less than a week. I was able to diagnose and repair my vehicle and pay for this device for less than taking it in to the shop for an evaluation. Not to mention, I didn’t have to commute to the shop and then get a ride home & lose the vehicle for a day, only to have to get a ride over to pick it up at the end of the day.
Casey –
Excellent tool and awesome app to have
Love this code reader! It was very detailed and easy to use. I had a misfire issue after changing plugs and wires and with this code reader I was able to see in detail what cylinder was having the issue. The 1 and only complaint I have is I wish it came with a case or something to store it in. It’s just a small device and somehow after a few months I lost it and can’t locate it anywhere. I’ll have to save up and get a new 1 to replace it because this was the best and easiest reader I’ve owned.
sooclose –
Easy to use.
Just what I needed to troubleshoot my rig.
Nil B Patel –
Easy to use with Apple!
Does what it’s entailed to do. Only flaw I personally noticed (using it for my Audi S5), is that it does not provide description(s) of codes; “No description available”. Otherwise, great scanning tool!
Matthew Coppola –
Easy
Used to clear CELs since all the new laws have autozone and advanced auto parts only using diagnostics. Can also get into most sensors. Have used it across GM, VW, Subaru, BMW, Ford, and LR. Cant beat it for the price and functionality.
Gerald beauchamp –
Good 1st impression
This is a great value diagnostic tool with good features. I have only used it briefly to reset ABS code and review some features. Anyone can look up various codes and check for solutions, but with the quick connection to a solution since you’re already on your phone, it makes it faster and the price Is quite fair since it does OBDII ABS SRS and Trans. Will update upon further use.
Michael A. Smith –
It just works
It’s worth buying for quick review of automotive problems for your vehicle
Fernando Flores –

Works great
Love it
Sam Fanelli –
Its perfect
Not much to say. Does what it’s supposed to do between my 2008 CRV & my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Very easy to set up. I bought mine and decided to leave it installed. So many options on what you can monitor, choices available depend on your vehicle. Love being able to see what’s going on under the hood in real time.
ahmed saleh –
disappointing
Failed nonsense I have an airbag code that was read with another code When trying an advanced screening device The correct code appears I regret my purchase Unfortunately, most of the problems with your car do not appear in this device
Dee Corley –
A valuable tool
I’m very happy with this tool. I have an older car that’s lost power. Instead of having to go to a parts store or mechanic to have the codes checked I was easily able to run a diagnostic myself and locate the code. The app was so easy to connect to the tool, and is easy to navigate. There a many options in the app as well, so I’m very happy. Finally got around to getting a Bluedriver, and am very happy that I did.

Just works.
I loaded the app to my iPhone, searched for the OBD port on the BMW, plugged the gadget in, and it just worked. Read the codes and gave details on them, then let me reset them. $99 saved me a $200 trip to the dealer.

too pricey
This scanner is a useful tool, although it is slightly pricey at $100, especially in the current economic climate. However, it effectively serves its purpose. I appreciate some of its feature that provides suggestions from other users on how to resolve issues.
