The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
This generator is underrated and outperforms anything out there. It takes care of all my work needs and I don’t have to worry if it’s going to handle the load. The fit and finish are great and its easy to transport. I recommend this to anyone looking for an easy-to-use generator.
specifications were unclear, but reviewers indicated the remote start capability was included. When unit received the 12v battery bay was empty and no remote fob included. Apparently this variant is pull-start only. Not sure yet if they can add kit with capability or if I need to return the entire unit – but working directly with Westinghouse to address.

iGen5000Dfc is a good value for a 5000 watt dual fuel inverter generator
SUMMARY 12/08/2024 A capable well designed and implemented generator at a very good price point with a responsive American service/support organization. It is best used for intermittent or emergency service rather than for full time or off-grid routine use. Storage and operation in rain, snow or dust environments should be avoided. The pure sine inverter, power level, dual fuel operation, battery electric start, eco mode, cost and American service/support were key purchase factors. Biggest Pros Price/Performance and Support Biggest Cons Transport, some large hands issues, display readability Buy Again Yes Stars 5 ACQUISITION Purchased at Amazon and received promptly with the carton slightly damaged and some internal Styrofoam packing broken. All visible generator components were undamaged. Installation is at 7200 feet so high-altitude kits had to be ordered from Westinghouse which took some time and inconvenience. Amazon does not sell the high-altitude kits at this time. SETUP High Altitude Observation The OEM sea-level to 2000 feet propane gas jet has thread locker and is difficult to remove without heating. Observation An adjustable wrench was a poor choice. Observation A 17mm socket wrench worked well and a vise holding the brass jet could have worked. Observation Good light is needed to see the size markings on each jet in the loose pack kit. The intent here is to primarily use propane. Oil Observation The provided break-in oil took some time to fill due to the required trial and error to avoid over filling. This unit required about 90% of the supplied quart. Observation The provided flexible funnel screws in and is a Gem. Keep it clean and don’t lose it. Be certain NOT to screw in the oil cap when checking the level. A Negative The oil access port is too small for large hands. This can make checking before each use a chore. Battery Observation The starting battery arrived loose and out of place. A Negative The battery access port is too small for large hands. A Negative The battery tie-down strap is much too difficult to fasten and had to be left loose. A Negative The battery connections, although standard automotive types, are too difficult to connect in the available space. A Negative Both the battery and the generator leads should be at least 3 inches longer. The battery was charged overnight with the provided charger The battery also charges during operation. A Negative It is unfortunate that the charger is not float charging capable and cannot be left connected to the generator. Observation The front panel charging port is connected directly to the battery. Remote Observation The Remote Start/Stop Key Fob Pairing instructions were followed, and it worked the first time Observation The instructions indicate that the generator should not be started in ECO mode. This reduces the value of the remote. Tool Kit Observation The kit includes a spark plug wrench a 17-mm & 19-mm double open-end wrench and plastic pouch. The included screwdriver is of indeterminate value. TRANSPORT Observation The generator rolls easily on smooth surfaces via the extension\ handle. Observation The small wheels will make rolling the generator more difficult as the ground surface gets rougher. A Negative The extension handle requires a large button press under the generator which has been a minor problem for large hands. Observation The top lifting handles are strong and effective. There is no bottom lift capability. A Negative In cold weather large, gloved hands have not been able to grip these handles. DOCUMENTATION Observation The user manual is excellent in English and in illustration. No comment on Spanish or French sections. Observation In two places manual procedures call for shutting off a gas fuel valve which does not apply to this generator. Observation The Key Fob pairing procedure incorrectly describes the associated indicator light on the front panel Observation There is no storage bin for the remote as the manual suggests. Fastening it to the starter rope works well enough. A Negative There is no description of how to use the supplied charger properly. Observation The safety warnings are numerous and to the point. Observation The Quick Start Guide Shut Down procedure doesn’t make sense for this model. Observation A parts list with illustrated parts breakdown is included separately from the user manual Observation The parts list does not include the high-altitude kits or accessories. PERFORMANCE Caveat During this initial period no proper test equipment was used to evaluate the unit. The panel display values were not validated. Starting With the generator off and propane supply on, the rope was pulled three times to distribute the new oil and displace air. Observation The propane startup was then no more than 4 seconds on the first try at an outdoor temperature of 40 degrees F. Restarting Observation During 2 hours of break-in operation the unit was stopped and restarted multiple times without issues from both the front panel and the remote. Maximum power Given the altitude and propane operation there was no reason to expect more than 79% of the 3500 rated operating Watts. (Net 2765 Watts) Observation The generator had no difficulty providing up to 2450 Watts while keeping the power below the recommended 50% of max during the first 5 hours. Test Loads 700-Watt resistive space heater Hair dryer with 1200- or 400-Watt operation 1250 Watt running load household vacuum cleaner 1800-Watt induction cooktop Observation During the two-hour test, primarily with some load to an average load of about 1000 Watts there were no issues. ECO Mode Observation All loads behaved properly in ECO mode and full speed mode . Observation ECO mode itself behaved quickly in response to all loads including the induction cooktop which cycles frequently. The instructions indicate that the generator should not be started in ECO mode. Observation The generator started and stopped in ECO mode without apparent issue. Observation ECO mode reached high speed operation levels at some point below 2000 Watts. High Speed Observation In ECO and non-ECO modes the removal of a large load resulted in a brief engine race condition thought to be harmless. Noise The break-in test was done on a concrete porch about 3 feet from a log wall and three feet above ground level. Observation Conversation was possible next to the generator but not comfortable. Observation Conversation was comfortable about 30 feet away and 3 feet below. This is clearly a location specific subjective result. Voltage Observation The no load and light load panel voltage was 124 volts. Observation The 2400-Watt load voltage was as low as 117 volts and typically, 118 to 119 volts USER INTERFACE Hour Meter Observation The meter reads in increments of 1 hour. There is no documentation to know if it would add for example, three 20-minute sessions correctly. Power Level Gauge Observation The gauge has 5 LEDs reading in increments 0f 25% from 0 to 100% Observation This gauge is judged to be cosmetic and useless. Observation The gas level gauge is similar in operation. and although not tested is probably quite useful. Power Level Display Observation This is a four-digit display reading in kilowatts. Observation It has a long integration time, so it updates somewhat slowly preventing a lot of jitters in the readings. Observation The display is difficult to read in direct sunlight and must be shaded. A Negative The display is difficult to use because it is so low to the ground. Observation It would be much easier to use if it was angled upward so as to be observed from a standing position. END

Ultra quiet
Love how quiet this generator is, and that it can run on propane. I would much rather run it on propane but nice to know it can also run on gas if needed.

While it does not power my entire house, it has plenty of power for the essentials
I bought this inverter to power select items in my home during a power outage. I especially like the dual fuel option.

Excelente producto me gusta mucho
The media could not be loaded. Me gusto mucho el generador , de se puede llevar tipo maleta y tiene linterna

Easy to use and get started. It louder than I hoped for.
It came packed well. It was easy to set up and use. Mine didn’t come with the oil listed so I did have to run out and get some before I could get mine started. That was disappointing. Its louder than I’d hoped for. I dont have decibel meter but seemed more than 52 db’s while running a couple of led lights. Other than that, it works well and easy to pull start. The handle and wheels make it easy to move around.

Quiet Generator
I bought this for my son and daughter-in-law for their trailer. It starts up every time, easily meets their power needs and is quiet enough that it doesn’t disturb their neighbors in the campground (or so he told me).

well built and well designed
Our Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment 4000 Peak Watt arrived the day before a 3 day power outage in rural upstate NY. the excellent documentation and design gave me time to set up an electrical source that got us comfortably through the outage. I just built an elevated doghouse to protect our resource. Having owned Honda and other gas generators, i love the quiet and remote start/stop features.
Peter M. –
Works
Easy to use, the due power source makes it convenient. I get a full day of running a/c during the summer with one tank
Joyce B. –
Just sayin
Easy to move around. Rus quiet

Great Start!
Arrived in great shape. Easy to get started. Cranked up on first try. Propane worked smoothly. Using 30 & 20 amp extension cords. Stress tested with 3000 watts with no issues. Great instructions.
Amazon Customer –
so far so good
The generator is much smaller and quieter than my old Husky 5000W open frame generator. Good thing about it is the usage of both gas and propane. Propane can be stored for several years. Less worry free in the power outage that generator cannot start. Not enough mileage on this generator yet. Wait and see how it will work after several years.

Great build quality
The FOB was well hidden on the top! AFTER ADDING OIL AND HOOKING UP TO THE PROPANE TANK IT STARTED RIGHT UP, SUPER NICE ON DAY ONE; would be nice to explain when the battery charger adapter should be used — nice feature that!

Love it so far!
We just received the unit; great size, weight, hope it performs. In the winter tundra of Minnesota right now, haven’t used.

Customer service from westinghouse
Got the unit as described called multiple times opened a ticket they have yet to call me in over a month. Unit would not start save your money and buy a Honda. Ended up returning the unit!! Beware

Dual Fuel feature is a must
Worked fine out of the box. Added the oil, connected the battery, and LP (propane) gas regulator and hose and it started right up. Used a 50 foot three prong, outdoor extension cord to connect the generator to our kitchen refrigerator and it ran the appliance for 30 minutes without issue. It appears to have enough wattage/amperage headroom to run more appliances (maybe a microwave and some lights). (I have no need to power an A/C unit.) I’ll wait before running the unit on octane gasoline, at least for now, so that I don’t have to fuss with aging gas in the fuel system. I won’t fully challenge the generator until the power goes out for an extended period, but I feel pretty confident it will handle the our workload.

EXCELLENT IVERTER
Using this item for backup power for freezer, refrigerator and furnace the 3000 watts is an overkill. Purchased this brand because it had 5 volt outlet. Workmanship appears excellent

Great Selection
I’m very pleased with my choice. Great generator.
Karen B. –
A Good Inverter with Some Shortcomings
The generator was easy to setup for the first crank. The maintenance schedule sheet was nice as well. As for performance, running on gasoline was nearly flawless after a couple pulls to prime the carb. As for propane…a bit finicky. Getting the unit to turnover wasn’t easy. Seems that the provided regulator is quite sensitive and many times there seemed to be little or no fuel flow to the unit. After a few unconnect/reconnect cycles I would get lucky and the unit would start and run for hours without issue, but that isn’t the experience you want every time you want to use the generator. I should note that this was consistent with a handful of tanks at various ages/sizes(20 and 30 pounds)/fill level. Some also say that changing the spark plug gap improves propane performance, but I haven’t tried that yet. I contacted Westinghouse this issue and they are sending a spare regulator. I haven’t been able to test the new one yet. If you plan to run on gas, you should have a great experience but need to keep expectations in check for propane. The performance was great, and both fuels generated the as-advertised wattages after break-in.
T. Manzella –
Well constructed, great features
This unit is well put together, set up intuitively, and easy to use. It is far superior to the generator we owned previously–including being much quieter. As avid RVers, we look forward to using it when we head out camping next season. The remote start, duel fuel feature, quiet operation, and 30-amp RV input will make dry docking a whole lot easier and more enjoyable!

Quiet and easy to use
Worked great right out of the box. Propane lasts for hours.

Small but Powerful
The iGEN4000 Dual Fuel is a compact yet powerful solution. I chose the dual-fuel option for its flexibility. So far, I’ve only run it on propane, which eliminates concerns about gasoline gumming up the carburetor during storage. However, having the option to switch to gasoline in an emergency provides added peace of mind. I highly recommend this generator for its versatility and reliability.

Quality
Received product in perfect condition. All parts were included. This is a great Generator/Inverter. I would recommend anyone needing a first class outdoor Generator to consider the Westinghouse family of Generators. Extremely satisfied.

Great emergency power generation!
We got this for emergency power, not for camping. We had the opportunity to use it during the November bomb cyclone that hit the Seattle area. We were out of power for three days. It’s super quiet compared to our neighbor’s generators. We do not run it 100% of the time. We have an EcoFlow battery bank so can run off the batteries all day and then run the generator a couple times for an hour to top off the batteries. With this setup we use very little gas. Overall we are super impressed. It’s fairly compact and easy to store and maneuver. Dual fuel makes it versatile. Electric, remote, and pull start makes it convenient.

Great Generator and esay to use!
Worked like a charm. I would recommend this product to anyone
DebG –
Very Easy to Setup and Start
I’m someone that is not mechanical and do not like to work with gas operated items. I bought dual fuel and use propane. As easy as hooking up a propane grill. I did read all of the instructions and watched some videos before I started it. I connected the battery and added Oil and turned propane on. Turned battery swith to ‘On’ position and used my remote to start it. Started right up. First time I started is there was some exhaust coming out. Second time not as much exhaust. Just a bit lounder then I thought but I have not been around many generators. In Eco mode it is quieter. Just glad it started right up. Now I’m ready if I lose power.

Easy to start
Like how compact it is. Don’t care ahold lot for the pulling handle.
penningreviews –
Warranty is crap -used once
I got a dud – so good luck because if same happens to you, after one light use (RV – got it late in season), the next time we fired it up it did not work. Took it to a shop and were told it required $500 in repairs to the carburetor. Rebuilding my car carburetor cost less that’s that. And I’d already paid $200 to have it looked at (some applicable to a repair). Called Westinghouse- no warranty on the carburetor. My review is therefore: but at your own risk. Piece of crap.

Oil Drain is Messy
Great little generator! Light enough to lift onto our cargo carrier without much trouble, very quiet, and supplies enough power to run both 15kBtu and 13kBtu AC’s at the same time (using a soft start). Love the flexibility of the dual fuel feature. Remote start is kind of cool but don’t really see a use in our application. My one gripe is the oil drain. To drain the oil you’ve got to reach through a ridiculously small opening, remove a rubber plug in the bottom, pull the drain plug, then let oil drool all over and out the bottom. Oh yeah, you’ve got to find a container to catch it that’s not over ~1.5” tall or set the unit up on blocks. I wish they’d extended the drain through the casing and made life easier. We installed a Drainzit Hon1010 hose in place of the drain plug which definitely helps. Haven’t run into too many things in life that were perfect, and the iGen5000DFc is no exception, but it’s still a nice little generator.

This iGen5000DFc generator works great. Runs quiet and is perfect for a power outage backup. Great value for the price!

Well worth the money
Fast delivery, easy setup. Started right away and ran quiet. Love the power output, hooked up to a running fullsize standing freezer and only drew 10% on propane.

Dual fuel capability
Purchased for use during power outages to ensure medical equipment keeps working. Has not had extensive use yet, but quality of product gives me confidence that we will have power during an outage. Features that appealed to me are: ability to use propane, CO monitor, Dual electric start and recoil start ,remote control, and history of this manufacturer. I had looked at Honda because of their name, but this seemed to me to be the better option.

Great little power house!
The unit came assembled and adding oil was easy. We plan on using LP gas with this inverter and it started right up and purred like a kitten. Even with 2000W of load, it could not be heard inside the house, super quiet! Hopefully no more hurricanes, but if we lose power again, this will be easy for everyone in the house to set up and start.

So quiet
Absolutely user friendly. Very quiet would be great on a camping trip. Love the duel fuel option. Key start is a great feature. Would definitely recommend it to anyone

Quiet Inverter Generator
Bought the IGEN4000DFcv Westinghouse Inverter Generator to use for tailgating and for power backup for my house. I enjoy the small size (60 lbs), ability to run on either LP or gas and how quiet the generator runs. I would highly recommend this generator.
