I’ve been using my R3 for about three weeks. I went with this model over the R7 because I didn’t really see the value of the arrows and the higher price. It could be a real headache to set up but if you go to YouTube and enter “ Uniden R3 setup”there’s a guy named “Vortex” that does an excellent job of explaining things. Even better, he has a link to his webpage that lists exactly how to set things up. I’m really only scanning KA band and Lidar. The alarm goes off about a mile from the police car and it’s easy to hear with my top down and my music cranking. The display is small and kind of hard to see. You can’t make out any detail in direct sunlight but that’s par for the course. I’m using the two small suction cups and it’s staying put. I’m assuming the larger one even works better but it’s pretty large and I haven’t used it. Overall I would definitely recommend the R3.

It is not reliable, it only makes a weird sound. So I had to return it on 7/11/23 and Amazon has not refunded it. The tracking says they received it on 7/13/23 and yet I have not gotten my money back.

Stop working 10 days after the warranty expired
Device worked great while it did. 10 days after the one year warranty expired, it decided to die. There is an option to pay $86 plus shipping to see if it can be repaired. Device was just too costly to only work for one year. We are retired and the device is not used every day or every week or every month. Would not recommend.

Unit goes off all the time
Set this one right next to my Escort Radar detector it went off over 30 times, my escort detector went off once. If you want to listen to a bunch of buzzing and humming and noise this is the radar detector for you. Don’t like this unit in thought I would try it

Good radar detector
Volume is good. Highway mode is too sensitive and gives false alarms when highway is through the city (Chicago), use city mode. Also gives false alarms when approaching tractor trailers from the back?. In Highway mode on the open road the radar source may be way ahead or in back. Detects intersection cameras well. Display can be too dim in bright light and when wearing sun glasses. Overall works well when you get accustomed to using it. Suction cup is good for most trips but not great.

False laser warnings
Very long range in K and Ka radar detection however, this is the second unit I have purchased due to false laser detections. Over a 400 mile trip, there were over 125 false laser detections, I have updated the unit to the latest firmware without improvement. This is the second unit that I have tested with the same result. It is at the point where I just ignore the laser warnings or turn them off.

This thing is quiet unlike some reviews stating otherwise. It filters alot of false signals. Watch YouTube videos on setting up your R3 it’s helpful. Watch the price too it changes a lot. I saw it at 299 and waited about a week or so and it came down for 266.

Started out happy with this detector. It picks up everything if you turn it to those settings. Volume adjust to avoid being annoying. However, after 2 months the display screen started to get little lines. As this thing has died while still under warranty, the screen barely functions. Not really great workmanship if the product display fails so quickly.

Speaker fails past warranty period
Really liked it but the speaker quit working. I’m reading numerous reviews on many sites that the speaker typically fails. Uniden needs to do a better job providing quality. They want me to send in for 100 bucks for repairs regardless of passed warranty period. Not cool especially when you pay a lot of money. Why spend another 100 bucks for something that may or may not continue to work in future. I personally think they put a cheap speaker in for more money down the road. Again; not cool. I’ll be more than happy to reverse this review if they contact me and make the situation right.

Lots of false alarms
The radar detector definitely works, but it is picking up false radar signals a lot. My husband has the Escort Max 360 and it outperforms this radar detector hands down. This one may be great for a rural setting, but in a city with lots of businesses with automatic doors it will drive you crazy.

Quality product that deliveries quality results
Great product, I drive a somewhat fast car (2019 LS twin turbo camaro) so i like to enjoy its power from time to time, this product picks up radars from quite a distance away, plenty of time to slow down. It very rarely picks up false detections. Only problem with it for me is due to my state I cannot mount it on the windshield (CA law) so it has to be on my dash. When I accelerate hard it sometimes slides off but besides that 10/10 product, this $200 investment has saved me from multiple would be speeding violations

Maximum Performance
I had an older detector which had digital circuity first generation. The Unidens technology is far more sophisticated, providing targets far in advance compared to my previous. I often drive the NJ Turnpike with a lot of heavy truck traffic and the Uniden still provides early warning and identification. It has multiple settings including GPS lockout, and settings for marking locations. Based on its price, I think it is a good value for the options provided.

Spectacular Performance
This has great quality if use is understood, any radar detector only detects the radar waves not the police, so won’t detect if police aren’t running radar or simply waiting for someone to turn a corner because there are no waves, I’ve muted k and x under 40mph and activated auto silence on those same wavelengths, it can detect roughly 1/2 mile in perfect straight away conditions from what experience I have, even around bends, through woodland or behind most objects it can detect waves that make their way to the scanners sight. No complaints in 1 and1/2 years it’s paid for itself several times over if you consider the price of a fine, spend it on this instead of court and you’ll never go to court for speeding. check your local and state laws, here in NY you can use these so long as your vehicle isn’t over a certain weight. And knowledge on the subject will reduce anxiety further. Suction cups fall off only 1 time every half year when temperature changes so tbh I think they are fine.

Delivered on time and in good condition. Instructions are easy to read and follow. Programming and/or changing the settings was easy. Some good videos on YouTube. Updating the firmware is also very easy. It only takes a short while to get the detector in a good operating profile. Excellent features. Wish I had sprung for the model that tells where the radar is coming from. It is nice to know if it is behind you. Especially useful when exiting an interstate onto a US highway or secondary road that goes for a few miles into a small town. These are prime locations for radar traps. Should know that Ka band is almost always police radar, and that K band 24.125 and 24.15 are also police radar. Great little device. I have mine velcro-ed to a weighted plate sitting atop the hump over the instrument cluster, so I can see the screen easily. I was careful not to block the ventilation holes on the device. I use a covid mask like a canopy to shield it from sunlight. Great setup.

Amazing radar
It works great and it has a lot of cool little features to tweak it to your preferred settings. You have to and I mean you HAVE TO read the manual to understand how to properly use it and set it up and you will have to mess with the settings a few times to get it to your desired preferences. Gotta do a couple of test runs but it’s worth having. Once you get your settings right (which can be a little frustrating) you won’t have to do it again. So yes at first you’re like wth but u have to take the time to tweak your settings and yes it might take a couple or a few test runs on the road to learn, understand and adjust the radar and it’s settings but after that you’re golden!!

First thing to note is that this product is a little more than a purchase, it’s an investment. Mine paid for itself in just three weeks. As far as the actual product, the detection range is impressive, the suction cups work surprisingly well, the screen is crisp, easy to read, and reasonably bright, the volume settings offer a great range of options, there are minimal false positives after changing a couple quick settings, and there are lots of settings available to tweak. The value for money is pretty much undefeated as well. Highly recommend it. Having that sixth sense while driving is great peace of mind, and this product works well enough to actually rely on it.
