How Does the Wireless android auto car adapter Measure Up? Assessing Its Gains and Losses
Effortless and Reliable Connection: Many users, including Bill Ledbetter and TB, praise the Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter for its “Easy to install and use” capability, offering a seamless and wireless connection to the car’s display. Bill found the small size advantageous as it allowed him to “hide it in the storage compartment in the dash”, while TB was relieved to “no longer have to manually unlock my phone to use Android Auto”, finding it connected “flawlessly” every time after an initial setup.
High Compatibility and Convenience: Users like Khaled Elajam and Dave experienced consistent connectivity, with Khaled stating it “connects every single time with no drops or lag”, and Dave confirming that it “works perfectly” with multiple vehicles. This suggests the device’s compatibility with a range of car models and its reliability for maintaining a stable connection, significantly improving the driving experience by offering a cable-free solution.
Enhanced User Experience: Customers such as Danny and S. Roe found the device to significantly enhance their in-car tech interaction. Danny noted it was “well worth it for how well it works. Bulletproof!”, and S. Roe expressed delight at the convenience, stating, “It was so easy getting in the car later and voila…connected.” These experiences underline the adapter’s value in delivering a hassle-free user experience.
Connection and Durability Issues: Some users report connection stability problems and a limited lifespan. Jorge Andres Arenas describes his adapter as having turned into “just a brick” after 8 months of use, while Booger Goo experienced it “stops working after a year”. These reviews raise concerns about the device’s reliability over time and its susceptibility to connectivity issues.
Inconvenience and Compatibility Challenges: Despite the positive aspects, there are reports of the adapter not functioning as expected for all users. JR finds it “useless for drives under 15 min” due to the slow startup time, while K9dopecop points out a significant limitation, stating the device “requires VPN to be disabled”, which might be a deal-breaker for privacy-conscious users or those who rely on VPNs for work.
The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
After issues with the initial setup I was going to return it. Gave it another try glad I did. Work really well the setup take a little bite of time to get going but once it does your good. I do have an occasional and sort time issue when it losses Bluetooth connection with phone will reconnect quickly and your back a running. I would recommend that if you are going to get watch a few videos online to help with setup and be patient.
Works great when it finally connects, unfortunately i live in a small town and am at my destination 95% of the time before it finally connects…….useless for drives under 15 min.
Understanding More: Questions Answered and Explained
What is the Motorola MA1, and how does it work? The Motorola MA1 is a wireless car adapter that allows you to connect your smartphone to your car’s display without the need for cables. It’s a direct plug-in USB adapter that uses Wi-Fi to communicate with your phone, enabling you to access Android Auto wirelessly. Once plugged into your car’s USB port, the adapter pairs with your phone, and Android Auto starts automatically when you start your car, giving you access to navigation, music, and more.
Is the adapter compatible with all cars and smartphones? The adapter is designed to work with any car that has Android Auto support and a USB port. However, it is important to note that the car must have Android Auto capabilities. As for smartphones, it works with most Android phones that support Android Auto. It is recommended to check the compatibility with your specific car model and smartphone before purchasing.
How do I set up the adapter in my car?Setting up the adapter is straightforward. You plug it into your car’s USB port designated for Android Auto, pair it with your smartphone via Wi-Fi, and follow any on-screen instructions. The device typically pairs automatically once the initial setup is done, so you don’t need to reconnect manually every time.
Does the Motorola MA1 adapter require a power source? The adapter is powered through the USB port in your car. There’s no need for an external power source or battery. As long as your car is running or the accessory mode is on, the adapter will be powered and functional.
Can I still use my car’s USB port for charging while using the adapter? While the adapter occupies the USB port it’s plugged into, it typically does not prevent you from charging your phone. Many cars have multiple USB ports, so you can use another port for charging. If there is only one port, some users opt for a USB splitter or hub to retain charging capabilities alongside the adapter’s functionality.
What happens if I receive a call while using the adapter? When you receive a call, Android Auto will handle it just like it would with a wired connection. The call interface will appear on your car’s screen, and you can answer using the car’s controls. Your music or navigation will pause or lower in volume, and resume once the call is finished.
Is there any latency or delay when using the adapter for navigation or music? The adapter is designed to offer a seamless and responsive experience. There should be minimal latency or delay when using apps for navigation or music streaming. However, the performance can be influenced by factors like the smartphone’s processing power, the car’s head unit capabilities, and the quality of the Wi-Fi connection between the adapter and the phone.

Don’t recommend
Low sound quality. Loses connection. Skips in and out like an old CD player that would skip.

Wireless wonder works well!
Wireless access to Android Auto. Really great! However, must turn off VPN to use. I like it!

Died after about 18 months
Purchased January 2023. For the first year and a half, it worked great. But early this summer it started intermittently resetting itself. Eventually, it only worked for a few seconds before rebooting over and over. Factory reset of the MA1, unpairing and repairing my phone from the car from the MA1 and vice versa multiple times hasn’t solved it. A real shame, since it’s a great little device when it works. But it just doesn’t last. Wish Motorola would stand by their product a little more.

Poor connection and delay
Started out with a majorly delayed connection, some actions took as much as 5 seconds to complete. Also, after the first connection, the device wouldn’t reconnect to my Motorola phone. Very disappointed.

True Android Auto wireless!
This device was easy to set up in my Honda Civic with my Samsung A50 phone, and it has connected perfectly each time so far. I have often had the habit of accidentally leaving my phone in the car, but no more – the phone can stay in my pocket. When starting up, Android Auto connects to by phone in about 25 seconds; that’s a bit slower than some other devices but acceptable. Besides, there was a price reduction on Amazon, so it was a good deal. My only concern is how to deal with the occasional Android Auto disconnection issues, which rarely occur in the newer versions.
Jeffrey –
Fixed my Android Auto issue.
This thing is a life saver! My truck requires a wired connection for Android Auto to work but it always cuts out at different times. Plug this badboi in and I’m chillin! Not once did it disconnect within 6 hours of driving. Easy 5 star.
Randolph Duke –
Easy install
Works great, only took a couple of minutes to install. Once it’s set up, it doesn’t take any longer to connect to the car as a normal wireless set up. I also purchased a second unit for another car.
Ravinder Singh –
Works as intended
Wish the cable from the USB plug was a little longer so I could use double sided tape to stick it to the dashboard. Instead it’s just hanging loose which is not ideal. Other than this, it works great. Always connects to the phone automatically and fairly quickly.

Broke with in 3 months
Bad quality control or something. Use was normal. Set it and forget it set up till one day it just wouldn’t respond lights blinking but no connection. the other USB in the compatible car still wouldn’t work. Then it would work for a moment then die. Tried it in other compatible cars and wouldn’t work at all. Don’t bother with it get one of the ones for 20 bucks or use a cable. Save yourself some money and a headache.
Emily Samantha –
Freedom from cables finally
Seriously, if you use Android Auto with a cable this is a game changer. I enabled wireless Android Auto on my device, plugged the adapter in, paired it with Bluetooth and the Android Auto interface shows right up. It just works, and fast with zero lag. Definitely would recommend.

dont buy
lasted only 6mths

No additional connectivity support
Connectivity to device drops when connecting to vpn.. other then that and moments of audio lose.. product works as expected… However returning due to needing vpn on my phone.
SardiusW –
Works perfect with minimal setup
Should have got this much sooner; it’s a little quality of life improvement that I don’t have to plug in my phone in every time I get in my car. Android Auto just comes up, and works as if my phone were plugged in.

It works on a 2022 Subaru WRX with the latest infotainmentupdate
I do wish it started up the music as fast as the Bluetooth, but at least a finally got a full screen map on my 22 Subaru WRX.
Alexei Gritai –
Strongly recommend, works great.
2021 RAM 1500. After using the device for few weeks with two android phones, would recommend the device. Initialization and connecting was intuitive and plug in play. Very disappointed UConnect was not capable to reach wireless level. Motorola did a great job indeed.

Worked good for a little while
Bought 2 of these for 2 vehicles. Had different experiences connecting them. One was done in less than 5 minutes. The other was a pain and took almost an hour. If you ever have to disconnect and reconnect them good luck because they are a pain. One still works and one is dead. They worked pretty good but would randomly drop connections on short or long trips sporadically.

Easy to use
This us a great device. I just bought this one for my second car. After setup, it automatically connects your phone to the car Android Auto.

Great … until it wasn’t
It worked fine for six months then stopped pairing. Have tried suggested troubleshooting all to no avail. $60 for six months is sure not good value.

Works great but occasional connection issue.
Plug and play and works great! I’ve noticed that I’ll occasionally have issues where my connection will be choppy and suddenly disconnect for reasons unknown. Then the next day it’ll be fine. Only happened a couple times. But the good outweighs the bad for me. I feel it’s worth it.
Edgar P. –
Does not last.
Although the product added wireless Android Auto capability to my stock system, it did not last. I ordered the product twice. The first lasted nine months, and the second lasted five months. The device seems to die during the hotter months. I will look for an alternative.

Second one, same problem
I am on my second MA1 and this one is doing what the first one did. All of a sudden, the unit just powers down and back up again randomly. It started doing it every once in a while and now it is doing it all the time to the point know where it is useless. Both started doing this within the first year. I’ve reached out to CS, I’ll follow up with an update. No matter how this gets resolved, I will NOT be purchasing another one. So much for going with the name brand.
xGothicBatgirlx –
Disconnected constantly. Crapped out after a year
Wouldn’t recommend at all, would disconnect several times in the middle of long drives and just gave out after the year warranty. I drive a fairly new car, I shouldn’t have these issues. Really disappointed with this product.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ –
stopped working after 4 months
Worked fine, until 4months now it won’t connect. Factory reset MA1 as well as reset car bluetooth & phone connection. Also reset phone bluetooth to MA1. No luck, it won’t connect. Tried multiple phones. Additionally, its not as good as android auto dongle that has detachable cord, for when you need to originally set up the device with car, as well as backup in event dongle stops working. I would not purchase again.

Trash….
It works some times, i guess its just how she goes bubbles…. some times she goes, sometimes she doesnt…

Works
Mine just like many worked for about a year before refusing to connect anymore. I had a lot of interference driving by towers and the connection would drop out.
GHO EDGARDO ALBERTO –
Works fine until it dies
Had one for 18 months…I don’t drive every day . When it worked it was great….one day it went into reboot loop and stop working. Did all troubleshooting, but to no avail. Motorola exchanges it during warranty period but it’s months past that so no luck.

Stop working after 6 months
It stop working after 6 months for no reason! Not reliable product, wasting my money!
Brian –
Painless
Painless and reliable way of making your old wired Android Auto vehicle a wireless Android Auto one. Setup took a few seconds– basically a serious case of READ THE INSTRUCTIONS– but once that was followed exactly it’s been great and completely painless.
Shaft –
There is a delay in audio
There ia noticeable delay in audio if you watching a video. If you just want something to have android maps , calls and music then this work perfectly fine.
Tofubandito –
Stopped working after 2 months
Worked fine at first but quickly started to drop connection frequently. Would not recommend.
David Zuber Jr. –
Don’t waste money.
This thing works maybe 3/4s of the time. No better than the cheaper no name brand one I had.
Kpenguin –
Has worked flawlessly like magic
I bought this for my VW Golf which had wired Android Auto. It took a few tries to get it set up and paired with my phone, but once it was paired, I have had zero complaints about it. Every time I get into my car, it connects to my phone without me having to do anything and just works for the entire journey. I have never had audio problems where I had to reboot my phone like with some head units I’ve had. Google Assistant works well with no issues, and it’s extremely convenient. I highly recommend this for anyone who needs an Android Auto wireless adapter.
G. Wright –
Connects quick and convenient
If you have your phones connected to your vehicle remove the phone before connecting the MA1. The process is pretty simple. By the time I back out of my garage and go to drive the MA1 is connected. Being able to answer messages by voice is very convenient.
OrioN79 –
Excellent product
One of the best Android Auto Car Play Adapter thanks Motorola

Stop working
Second one in less than two years and they have both stopped working. Unable or don’t know how to fix whatever the issue is.
Matt –
Lasted less than 6 months
1st one lasted a couple of years and then gave out. Decided to get a second one to replace it. New one didn’t even last 6 months. These are junk now. Stay away
Kate –
Quit working
Worked great for 8 months, then abruptly stopped. Performed the reset options provided in the manual and still does not work. Love the functionality when it was working, but will not be purchasing another of this brand due to short lifespan
Tom Garman –
Perfect for a 2021 GMC Sierra
Am very impressed with this unit. I finally have wireless android auto in my truck! Read the instructions carefully, as you must first pair the phone to the truck, with the cable, then pair it with the wireless device once it has been setup to the radio. Took about 5 minutes to get up and running, and has worked great for the last year. Started with a Samsung S9, and got a new S22 about 6 months ago, both phones work perfect!
Steven Catlett –
Works most of the time
This adapter is pretty good if you’re wanting to go wireless. However, mine loses connection while going through cities or in heavily trafficked areas. The only thing I can think is it is picking up wifi interference. On my daily route, without fail, there are three intersections where the connection drops
John Corona –
Should have returned it!
So I bought one of these back in April and put it in my vehicle. It worked flawlessly for a couple weeks then I started having problems connecting to my phone. I initiated a return, then it started working again so I ended up keeping it. I should have returned it when I had a chance. Now, it works randomly. It connects, then disconnects, and will not stay connected. Unplugged, reset and same thing. Since I am outside my return window I am stuck with a faulty device. These days, $60 is alot of money. Spend it elsewhere.
Lisa –
Don’t buy
You’ll be satisfied for a few months and then suddenly it’ll stop working. Not worth it.
d. harris –
Not as expected
Would not pair with my 2012 Lincoln, Motorola customer service was useless. So I return for a refund.
MacMan2625 –
Broke after 9 months
The media could not be loaded. The product is stuck in a boot loop. Troubleshooting through this page doesn’t work. There is no option to contact Motorola for support. Device is useless at this point. I’ve googled and others have reported similar issues. How do I get a warranty replacement if there’s no way to contact Motorola though my purchase?
Beth –
Works great! Until it doesn’t
I bought this in January. It was easy to set up, and had a few glitches that I was able to easily work around, but then by July it would no longer connect to my phone. Period. I did troubleshooting with no luck. I tried to reach out to Motorola for warranty support and got NOTHING. I contacted them on Facebook, via email, and telephone. Not one response ever. The telephone support line actually directs you to call a different number, which is itself disconnected. Anyway, don’t waste your hard earned money.

Love having wireless android in an older model.
Love having wireless android in an older model. Used in the center counsel of 2020 Jeep Gladiator. Do the initial setup away from your home wireless. Once setup it’s nearly flawless. Occasionally disconnects, but comes back in 10 to 30 seconds. Love this.
Brooke –
Works like a charm
I had bought another adapter and it didn’t do anything so I had my fingers crossed with this one. Followed the instructions step by step and voila! Seamless connection by the time im backing out of a parking space. I’ve been using it for almost a week and it has worked perfectly everyone I get in my car. My android auto USB port is in my center console and it tucks in there nicely. Don’t waste time trying another product this works great!
Odeimy05 –
This wireless Android Auto car adapter is amazing. It’s a great design
I tested this wireless Android Auto car adapter for four hours, from 10am to 4pm. The adapter kept disconnecting from my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, and the adapter felt hot to the touch. It also doesn’t support Apple iOS. I suggest you don’t buy this adapter. A better suggestion is to switch to an adapter that supports both Android and Apple iOS.

Just Stopped Working
It just stopped working, was working one day, and then nothing.
