How Does the Wireless android auto car adapter Measure Up? Assessing Its Gains and Losses
Effortless and Reliable Connection: Many users, including Bill Ledbetter and TB, praise the Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter for its “Easy to install and use” capability, offering a seamless and wireless connection to the car’s display. Bill found the small size advantageous as it allowed him to “hide it in the storage compartment in the dash”, while TB was relieved to “no longer have to manually unlock my phone to use Android Auto”, finding it connected “flawlessly” every time after an initial setup.
High Compatibility and Convenience: Users like Khaled Elajam and Dave experienced consistent connectivity, with Khaled stating it “connects every single time with no drops or lag”, and Dave confirming that it “works perfectly” with multiple vehicles. This suggests the device’s compatibility with a range of car models and its reliability for maintaining a stable connection, significantly improving the driving experience by offering a cable-free solution.
Enhanced User Experience: Customers such as Danny and S. Roe found the device to significantly enhance their in-car tech interaction. Danny noted it was “well worth it for how well it works. Bulletproof!”, and S. Roe expressed delight at the convenience, stating, “It was so easy getting in the car later and voila…connected.” These experiences underline the adapter’s value in delivering a hassle-free user experience.
Connection and Durability Issues: Some users report connection stability problems and a limited lifespan. Jorge Andres Arenas describes his adapter as having turned into “just a brick” after 8 months of use, while Booger Goo experienced it “stops working after a year”. These reviews raise concerns about the device’s reliability over time and its susceptibility to connectivity issues.
Inconvenience and Compatibility Challenges: Despite the positive aspects, there are reports of the adapter not functioning as expected for all users. JR finds it “useless for drives under 15 min” due to the slow startup time, while K9dopecop points out a significant limitation, stating the device “requires VPN to be disabled”, which might be a deal-breaker for privacy-conscious users or those who rely on VPNs for work.

Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
After issues with the initial setup I was going to return it. Gave it another try glad I did. Work really well the setup take a little bite of time to get going but once it does your good. I do have an occasional and sort time issue when it losses Bluetooth connection with phone will reconnect quickly and your back a running. I would recommend that if you are going to get watch a few videos online to help with setup and be patient.
Works great when it finally connects, unfortunately i live in a small town and am at my destination 95% of the time before it finally connects…….useless for drives under 15 min.
Understanding More: Questions Answered and Explained
What is the Motorola MA1, and how does it work? The Motorola MA1 is a wireless car adapter that allows you to connect your smartphone to your car’s display without the need for cables. It’s a direct plug-in USB adapter that uses Wi-Fi to communicate with your phone, enabling you to access Android Auto wirelessly. Once plugged into your car’s USB port, the adapter pairs with your phone, and Android Auto starts automatically when you start your car, giving you access to navigation, music, and more.
Is the adapter compatible with all cars and smartphones? The adapter is designed to work with any car that has Android Auto support and a USB port. However, it is important to note that the car must have Android Auto capabilities. As for smartphones, it works with most Android phones that support Android Auto. It is recommended to check the compatibility with your specific car model and smartphone before purchasing.
How do I set up the adapter in my car?Setting up the adapter is straightforward. You plug it into your car’s USB port designated for Android Auto, pair it with your smartphone via Wi-Fi, and follow any on-screen instructions. The device typically pairs automatically once the initial setup is done, so you don’t need to reconnect manually every time.
Does the Motorola MA1 adapter require a power source? The adapter is powered through the USB port in your car. There’s no need for an external power source or battery. As long as your car is running or the accessory mode is on, the adapter will be powered and functional.
Can I still use my car’s USB port for charging while using the adapter? While the adapter occupies the USB port it’s plugged into, it typically does not prevent you from charging your phone. Many cars have multiple USB ports, so you can use another port for charging. If there is only one port, some users opt for a USB splitter or hub to retain charging capabilities alongside the adapter’s functionality.
What happens if I receive a call while using the adapter? When you receive a call, Android Auto will handle it just like it would with a wired connection. The call interface will appear on your car’s screen, and you can answer using the car’s controls. Your music or navigation will pause or lower in volume, and resume once the call is finished.
Is there any latency or delay when using the adapter for navigation or music? The adapter is designed to offer a seamless and responsive experience. There should be minimal latency or delay when using apps for navigation or music streaming. However, the performance can be influenced by factors like the smartphone’s processing power, the car’s head unit capabilities, and the quality of the Wi-Fi connection between the adapter and the phone.

Couldn’t connect. Tried different cars

Takes less than a minute to pare with phone.
Makes it a lot easier to get in and get going, maps, music, and no dropouts as of yet. The little sticky pad for locating doesn’t hold very good to an old plastic dash.
J. Malarcher –
Does what it should
This is the ultimate “plug and play.” The car I bought recently only had wired Android Auto so I quickly tired of the plugging, unplugging, and remembering to take the phone when I left the car. Now the phone stays iny pocket, the connection is quick and sure, so no complaints at all.

Great Buy
I love that it works wirelessly with my Android Auto. I’m actually going to buy a 2nd one for another vehicle. Setup is kind of annoying at first but once it’s done it works amazing. I recommend it one.

Stopped working after a year
During the first six months of owning this, it would periodically lose its connection a few times during a 15-30 minute drive. Unfortunately, that connectivity issue has drastically increased. Now, it disconnects every other minute. Please save your money, and buy anything but this Motorola travesty.
Phelps NY Chick –
Works well for about a year
Convenient but loses connection on long trips especially when you are trying to follow a map! During a recent long trip (age of device=1.5 yrs) it kept losing connection so often that I just used the wired connection.
D Howard –
Do not buy this Wireless Auto dongle
This product is okay at first. But every time an android update comes out it affects the usage of this device. The last update that came out apparently now will not allow this device to work in my Ford F150 when it was working fine before. Yes, I’ve tried all the suggested “fixes” and resets with no luck. The biggest problem with this device is that there is no way to update it’s firmware. So it cannot keep up with the Android updates. I guess now I’ll be spending another $70 – $90 or more again for one that actually works.

Extremely pleased. Would buy again.
Motorola MA1 works great. Purchased for 2023 Elantra SEL w/ convenience package – have been using for six months. Extremely pleased. I would buy again and can easily recommend

Amazing! FASTER THAN CABLES with modern phone!
Works perfectly and Fast!! It connects FASTER than the $17 cables I kept having to replace every four months! Sounds is perfect and JUST AS LOUD! Video is crystal HD! Now my Galaxy S23 Ultra will CHARGE, even on short trips! Simply DELETE your old android auto connections, connect the MA1 Bluetooth Adapter to whatever USB port or cable for your unit, ENABLE WIRELESS ANDROID AUTO BLUETOOTH CONNECTION on your phone, in AA Settings, and… BOOM! (Now I can close the glove box, after some unskilled dealer – approved jackass installed the cable in there.) Summary: Sounds, looks, and works PERFECTLY and FAST, with JVC (Boss) unit and Galaxy S23 Ultra, which now gets to CHARGE! ❤️ It’s worth the $60, every last penny!

Works great
Easy to connect. When I start the car it takes less than 10 secs to pickup. Wish I had purchased it sooner.

Easy set up
It was very easy to set up. I just plugged it in and paired my phone and it started working. Very easy solution to make my car wireless
Zhenren Z. –
A nice addition to your Android Auto system that doesn’t support wireless Android Auto.
From now on, each time I go somewhere that requires navigation, I no longer have to plug in my phone through a USB cable and have my battery stay charged at 100% which will damage my battery over time. The only downside with this adapter is that it does take some time to connect after I start my car.
Dexter –
Worked great until it didnt
I purchased this early January 2023 and it quit working mid February 2024. It worked pretty flawlessly about that entire time. Then it started cutting out randomly. Within a week of that, it quit working all together. This model is quite a but more expensive than the other brands and feel it should have lasted much longer

Incoming calls do not work
On Android 14 (S23 Ultra) incoming calls do not work. Very annoying.

Not too happy so far….
I’ve been running the Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter for about 2 weeks now. I’ve got a 20 mile commute each way to and from work. I haven’t had a single trip yet where I haven’t lost bluetooth connectivity. Takes about a minute to reconnect and start working again and sometimes multiple disconnects back to back. Love the idea and when it works. Not so much when it dosen’t.

Susceptible to 5Ghz interference – Always disconnects in certain spots on my drive
The Motorla MA1 worked great for almost 1 year. However, the adapter has started disconnecting in certain spots that I pass on a regular basis in my car. I’ve since found out that this adapter can only connect using 5ghz wifi, which is in the same frequency range as some cell phone/communication towers etc. In one particular spot, a new temporary cell phone/communication tower was installed a few weeks ago, and now my adapter disconnects every single time I drive by this tower. As time passes, more spots appear where the MA1 will disconnect. There’s no way to change settings on the MA1, so I can’t change it to a different frequency. It looks like I will have to buy another adapter. I’m planning to buy the AAWireless adapter, which apparently allows you to choose the frequency (2.4ghz or 5ghz). Some people have reported that this takes care of the problem. UPDATE. After some googling, I found a fix on Reddit that works pretty well: Wrap the MA1 in several layers of aluminum foil. This blocks outside interference, but the signal from my phone is still strong enough to go through without issue. It’s not a pretty solution, but I’ve only had one short disconnect, since doing this. I’ll try adding another layer of tinfoil, to see if that gets rid of the problem completely.

Works like a charm
had a few disconnections after a few months, but it reconnected within a minute. Set it right once and you never have to do it again.
ShilaVaek –
The connection is bad, otherwise is good product
It do work like what I expected, but it keep disconnecting while I’m driving, it will auto connect back in a minute, but the disconnect is really annoying when I have my map or music on. If they have new version and make connections better I will try this again, but for now I will refund it and don’t buy it.
Nickscar –
works perfectly
I works perfectly. Connects in the same amount of time as the factory wireless in my other vehicle. I have an S24 ultra. My auxiliary port turns off when I turn my truck off so my phone doesn’t try to stay connected. I put a USB adapter elbow so it sit perfectly in the tray.
JasonP71 –
Good for a year
It is definitely one of the best wireless Android Auto products out there. I purchased it back in January of 2023. I do a lot of short run driving (30 minutes or so) it was nice not having to keep plugging my phone in. Recently it just stopped work, February 2024. I have tried several things including factory resetting it, Forums and support still just get a solid red light. I would by it again but there are other highly rated devices that do the same so I thought I’d try one of those.
Katy H –
Doesn’t work
Worked for the first 24 hours then disconnected and wouldn’t reconnect to Android Auto.
Kayak Ryder –
works perfectly.
My car is a 2019 and I had to connect via a USB cable to use Android Auto. I didn’t think it was a big deal but I tried this device when it went on sale. Well worth it not having to pull it out of my pocket every time I get into the car to hook it up.
Miguel J. –
Works like a charm, but wish the cable was detachable
It does the job perfectly. In fact, my Android Auto infotainment system works faster than wired -don’t ask my why. The only thing I wish was different is that the cable is non detachable. Therefore, if it get damaged through time, you’ll have to buy a whole new product. Aside from that, perfect 🙂
Marie Guerierri –
Easy to set up, works a treat!
Ah, no more do I have to plug in my phone to get Android Auto to function on my car. One set up and your phone automatically connects to android auto. Surprised that I got all my podcasts, too!

Problem with Android 14?
Bought in 2022, it worked fairly reliably for 2 years in my 2021 Nissan Kicks. My phone is a OnePlus Nord N00 5G running Android 12. Got a new phone for Xmas, a OnePlus Nord N30 with Android 14. The phone works great connected directly by USB cable but will NOT connect USB through the dongle. It pairs ok and the peripheral Bluetooth devices (audio, etc) work, but the car never recognizes Android Auto so I can’t run Google Maps or other AA apps. As far as I know I can’t upgrade the firmware in the dongle so I’m stuck. Of course it’s too late to return it. Don’t know if it’s the dongle, the new phone, or the new Android version. Guess I’ll go back to the cable but I’m very frustrated with this.

Worth the Price
It may be that my Android phone is also a Motorola product but the setup of this product was very easy without any problems. I have only used this product a few times since I bought it. The device since the setup senses my phone is present and pairs with it. If I want to activate Android Auto the app appears on the infotainment system once pairing is complete. Then all I have to do is press the Android Auto app symbol on the infotainment screen. So far very satisfied with the item. The only drawback I have is some cars usb connection has power at all times even when the engine is off. If that is the case you will have to unplug the MA1 when not using the car or the battery will be draining. PS Youtube has many videos on this product again I would recommend buying it.
Patrick –
Works perfectly
This product performs exactly as was described in the item description which was my reason for purchase.

Set up easy. One day in, perfection!
Got this yesterday, installed it today. Took maybe 2 to 3 minutes to install. Drove to a doc appointment and coffee with a friend. Used it to see how it did. “Populated” within 30 secs of starting the car, worked flawlessly to both appointments. One day in, I’m happy. Will only write another review if something negative happens. Til then hoping for happy travels.
CKeown –
Perfect
Just what I needed, works perfectly.
Michael –
It kinda works
It kinda works. It takes about a minute for it to connect after starting my car. But the Android Auto interface is very slow and laggy. It may take several seconds before the voice assistant activates. Music will start skipping when the navigation voice is talking. I don’t know if this is the fault of the device itself, or just a fundamental limitation of Android Auto over WiFi. It kinda works. It reliably connects every time and stays connected, and all of the Android Auto features work. That’s the only reason I’m keeping it, because I’ve been having trouble with a physical USB connection recently. It kinda works, but the experience isn’t great, and it can be irritating when the music starts skipping and having to interact with the very laggy interface.

Not compatible with S24 Ultra?
I’ve used this for a few months with no issues. I just upgraded from my old S21 Ultra to the new S24 Ultra, and can no longer get it to connect.
Cristian Losada –
Práctico y funcional
Excelente funcionalidad. Apenas lo conecté, lo reconoció el auto (Chevrolet Cruze) y de inmediato se vinculó al móvil (Galaxy S23 Ultra)

Great
I have had the product for 1 Day so for I like it I will updated the review if there is any issue but it was super easy to setup I was done in 1 min

Didn’t work with my vehicle
I have a Honda Passport and it did not work well with my vehicle. It’s probably a good product.

Excelent product
Works great. will be ideal on road trip in April

Funciona bien
Lo probé en 2 vehículos y funcionó muy bien 👍🏼
Robert Kanehl –
Close to great
Functionally this works exactly as expected. Connection is quick and painless. It pops up as available even after my car has been turned off for quite a while, and the drain my the phone battery is pretty heavy. Had to start unplugging it after parking to prevent this.
KatDoh85 –
This worked fantastic. For an entire 2.5 months.
This really solved the well-known issue of Android Auto being unstable with a cord and disconnecting all the time. It was amazing. Until it wasn’t. I ordered late October and started using it mid-November. It did everything it was supposed to, which is NOT very much. Then comes mid-January and my audio was constantly cutting out and Android Auto would just disconnect and drop altogether and I would have to restart my phone and my radio and even then it wouldn’t connect at times. I thought for sure it had to be a software thing. I updated, uninstalled apps, reinstalled them. Tried to change my battery settings, everything. Why would my Spotify constantly be skipping audio and such? Then I was like, well what if this thing I’ve been using for just 10 weeks is ACTUALLY the issue? I plugged my phone back in with a cord and golly gee willikers wouldn’t you know it, problem solved. And of course 2.5 months is past the return/support period so now I have to hope the manufacturer will actually do something about this. Unreal.

Dies after 6 months
Intermittently drops connection. Now just shows red LED. Dead transceiver.
Mike Henry –
Good for ditching wired
Got tired of wired andoid auto with my company truck . Nifty device. Has some slight audio lags when it 1st starts up with pandora but that’s not a real issue . A braided cable would be better to prevent any damage to the wire . Could be my phone or the truck itself but it sometimes doesn’t work for about 6 or so minutes . Overall all I’d say a great product for someone trying to control cables or has the misfortune of riding 3 deep in a truck .
J. J. –
Works Well
Installation was simple. Automatically starts Android Auto.
Carlos aragon –
Very good
Work fine
Shahin S –
Plug and play
It was pretty much plug and play for me. Disconnected from my previous connection from the car, plugged this in and held down the button, then connected it to my phone, both the car and phone asked to link each other and bam good to go.
Trever T –
Useless for more than one phone
Supposedly this device can support two phones, and clicking the side button switches between them. However, in practice, this has worked maybe twice, but the vast majority of the time it will pick one phone and glue to it like a limpet, and refuse to accept any other connection. Even when I’m in the car and backing out the driveway, it will still be trying to connect to my wife’s phone in the house rather than mine right there in the console. Unfortunately, thanks to a hectic work schedule this month I’ve missed the return window by two days, so now I’m stuck with this virtually useless thing. If you’re the solo user of car and phone, however, it should perform nicely.

Straightforward and exactly as advertised
Connecting an older Motorola phone to 2019 Honda HR/V. Easy to follow instructions, worked first time. Very convenient to use once installed – connects as soon as vehicle started.
RX-110mw –
Random audio issues
I’ve had this for just over a month now. Half the time, everything works fine. The other half is just random audio problems. The wireless AA always connects, but like 1 out of 5 connections result in video, but no sound. Sometimes, I get video and sound, but the sound is only the navigation (Google Maps), but no music. What’s more, whenever there’s no audio, the music shows to be playing (showing a pause button, rather than a play button). If I disconnect the USB plug from tge Moto MA1, then plug back into the car, I sometimes get audio back. Since purchase, tgere have been about 3-4 Android Auto software updates. All have the issue, but different chance levels of the audio problems occuring. At this point, I can’t tell if it’s my 6mo old phone, my 3y old car, Android Auto, or the MA1. Phone: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Car: 2021 Subaru Outback XT (comes only with wired AA) I’m getting frustrated and regretting the purchase, but can’t return due to packaging being tossed.
Becki P. –
No more cord issues
So far this has worked great. Easy install and totally hands free wireless connection to Android auto. It does seem to be a little slow to connect but that’s coming from someone with zero patience. I’ve seen reviews where it only lasts a year or less. I’m not there yet but I would have probably had to purchase 2 cables in the short time I’ve had this so it would still be worth purchasing for me
Cms3717 –
Works as advertised, Overall love it
Works just as described, ONCE in a while I get a little audio skip but that’s understandable, and I can’t definitively say that this unit is the cause. I connect every time just as I’m pulling out and work great.
Michael Unmann –
Work flawlessly
So simple. Plug it in and it works. No more cables, I love it. Highly recommended.
Rudy Betton –
No wireless charging
Can’t use power sharing with this case. Removed case and then was able to use power sharing with galaxy watch 6. Built-in screen protector and no wireless charging should of paid more for Spigen case.
