Question Bank: Providing the Answers You Seek
1. What are pick and hook tools used for? Pick and hook tools are commonly used in automotive and electronic applications. They are designed to help remove or manipulate small components such as O-rings, seals, gaskets, and springs. These tools have various shaped hooks and picks that allow for precise and delicate work in tight spaces. 2. Are pick and hook sets only used in automotive repair? No, pick and hook sets are versatile tools that can be used in a variety of applications. While they are commonly used in automotive repair to remove and install seals and gaskets, they are also useful for tasks like removing small electronic components, opening packages, cleaning small parts, and even in hobbies like model building or jewelry making. 3. Can pick and hook tools damage delicate surfaces? If used improperly, pick and hook tools can potentially damage delicate surfaces. It is important to exercise caution and use the right amount of force when using these tools. Avoid excessive pressure or prying, especially on sensitive materials like plastic or soft metals. It is recommended to practice on less critical surfaces before working on delicate or expensive components. 4. Are pick and hook sets made of durable materials? Pick and hook sets are typically made of durable materials like chrome vanadium steel. This type of steel offers excellent strength and durability, making the tools suitable for various tasks. The handles of pick and hook tools often have a rubber or ergonomic grip, providing comfort and reducing hand fatigue during prolonged use. 5. Can pick and hook tools be sharpened if they become dull? Most pick and hook tools are not designed to be sharpened. They are typically manufactured with sharp tips to provide precision and ease of use. If the tips become dull or damaged, it is recommended to replace the tool rather than attempting to sharpen it. Using a dull or damaged pick or hook tool may lead to less precise work and potentially cause damage. 6. Are pick and hook sets suitable for DIY enthusiasts? Yes, pick and hook sets are suitable for DIY enthusiasts. These tools can be handy for a wide range of DIY projects, such as repairing small appliances, removing old seals or gaskets, working on electronics, or even crafting and model making. While pick and hook tools can be used for various purposes, they are not typically designed or recommended for fishing or outdoor activities. These tools are primarily intended for automotive and electronic tasks and may not have the necessary features or durability required for outdoor use. It is best to use tools specifically designed for fishing or outdoor activities. 8. Can pick and hook sets be used for woodworking or carpentry? Pick and hook sets are not commonly used for woodworking or carpentry. Woodworking typically requires specialized tools such as chisels, saws, and planes. While pick and hook tools may have some limited applications in woodworking, they are not specifically designed or optimized for these tasks. It is recommended to use tools specifically designed for woodworking to achieve the best results.

Cheap booger hookers what else you need to know?
Could not have gotten my rock hard 3rd Gen 4Runner PCV valve grommet out without a couple of these. Still not a fun task, but with patience is doable.

The positives and negatives of buying these tools
Well, they had a very good grip and I was able to use them for exactly what I needed them for without any breakage. They are very well made for the price that I bought them for and they were exactly what the description said?

Nice quality pick set, but.
They seem to be a nice quality set of picks. But the smaller ones are a little big for getting into tite spots,I knew that going in with the purchase from reading other reviews. The straps that hold the tools in place in the case are very tite which makes it difficult to remove them for use. Otherwise I think they are well worth the price.

Nicely made, great value
I looked at different options for a pick kit and was about to pull the trigger on Gearwrench when their set suddenly increased in price by $8. So I bought these and was happy I did so. The case is great and each of the picks is well made. The handles have a molded grip to them and are a nice size. The variety of the picks is very useful and I used several in a recent engine repair where I used them to break the seals on a number of hoses.

Nice Set
If you don’t have a set of these picks/tools in your toolbox and you’re shopping for an all around set this is a very good choice. The case is a very good quality for keeping them organized. The sizes are what a handyman will need for a lot of your jobs.

A tool for almost any situation. No qualms with this.

Didn’t really need this many pick tools
Quite frankly, three of these pick tools in common configurations in either size (lg or sm) would be sufficient for most home tool needs.

A game changer if you work on cars
I’ve always struggled to break free hoses and release the many different types of clips car manufactures use to frustrate the normal owner, especially electrical. I just replaced an engine on my Daughters car and these worked perfectly. I used almost every different one in this kit doing the job. From using them to release the clips to getting them under the stuck hoses and breaking them free so they would slide off without smashing or cutting my hands. They’re a very good quality and handled everything I needed and more. I highly recommend if you don’t own a set.
CrimsonAngel –
As advertised
They do what they’re supposed to do. I don’t work in a shop wrenching all day, so I can’t speak to that. But for an average Jane performing my own repairs at home it works well. The handles are pretty comfortable. The picks are shaped the same as any Snap On I’ve ever seen the guys at the shop use. They seem sturdy enough. Not sure what else to say really. They’re picks, they pull gaskets and orings, they’re sturdy, and they get the job done.

A lot of picks
I originally wanted the Milwaukee pick set but that sold out quickly which allowed me to browse through and I came across this. It was cheaper than the Milwaukee at the time and had 6 more variations plus a neat case. Excellent value for money and decent quality.

Even before unzipping the tool
Even before unzipping the tool, I found 4 typos/misspell on outer paper cover. It let my expectation to the product itself turn down. It will take some time for me to use and evaluate them and I will see how it turns out.
Amazon Customer –
About as pointy as a used Sharpie
Much more blunt than I was hoping. About as pointy as a worn out shapie marker. Kinda defeats the purpose of a pick. Not a high quality item.
