I’ve been using my R3 for about three weeks. I went with this model over the R7 because I didn’t really see the value of the arrows and the higher price. It could be a real headache to set up but if you go to YouTube and enter “ Uniden R3 setup”there’s a guy named “Vortex” that does an excellent job of explaining things. Even better, he has a link to his webpage that lists exactly how to set things up. I’m really only scanning KA band and Lidar. The alarm goes off about a mile from the police car and it’s easy to hear with my top down and my music cranking. The display is small and kind of hard to see. You can’t make out any detail in direct sunlight but that’s par for the course. I’m using the two small suction cups and it’s staying put. I’m assuming the larger one even works better but it’s pretty large and I haven’t used it. Overall I would definitely recommend the R3.

Not very loud
I was excited to use this radar detector. We are learning new things about it all of the time. However, it is disappointing because it is not very loud. I read all of the directions, put it on the loudest number, but you can barely hear it, especially if the radio is on. (No, we are not young people who like the volume up on the radio, nor do we need hearing aids.). For that reason, alone, I would not recommend purchasing the detector. It does no good, if you can’t hear it.

Won’t turn off with my car.
The media could not be loaded. The radar is fine works great but for some reason it won’t turn off with my car. I don’t know if I have to program it somehow. But I tried ordering a replacement as well yet it still didn’t work it stays on with my car even though it’s supposed to turn off. I tried switching outlets and it still won’t turn off. If you think you know the solution I would like to know instead of manually turning it off everytime and risking forgetting to and it drains my battery. Instagram is ynm.tenji if anyone knows what to do to fix it. Other than that it’s a great radar.

Great Radar Detector
The look of the R3 is amazing it adds something to your car, I would also say the device itself is durable however the bracket they provide just isn’t strong enough to keep it fully in place it shakes a little bit. It has definitely saved me from getting tickets when it screams laser.

Good radar but didnt even last a yr
The radar works good as long as you arent going too dang fast. 75-85 your good. No direction where the radar detection is coming from which i didnt think was ness. But it is. Ad thing is it has lots of interference with car sensors. Also the sound quit working today sept 17 which is 7 months. Cmon for 300 dollars it should not go out like that. Not worth buying again. Suction cup works great stays up in hot and cold. Looks sleek but still if it doesnt make it a year then it isnt worth jack.

Issue with firmware update. Return for refund waiting over15 days and still waiting.
Waiting for a refund so I can purchase another unit. Returned over 15 days ago and still no refund. I had issues with recognizing the unit to upgrade the firmware. Tried different USB cables and PC/ MAC. Possible defective unit but willing to purchase a new one when I get my refund.

Doesn’t detect lasers
Had nothing but great success with this thing picking up every radar system I’ve encountered since I’ve owned it, however I promptly found out that it cannot detect laser radar guns like it specifies. Was pulled over with the system on while on the highway. Trooper got me with laser, but this was supposed to alert to laser and it didn’t. Please keep that in mind

Excellent scanner that tells you when there’s pigs in the area. It is very easy to use and even though it’s a bit pricy it is definitely worth it. I like that you can change the color of the display so you can match it with your cars interior. The mount suctioned great to my windshield, it feels secure and sturdy.

Stopped working after 5 yrs
The GPS never functioned properly with the memory feature. Despite driving the same route daily and repeatedly saving the false alerts, I continued to receive multiple incorrect warnings. After five years, the device stopped working altogether.

Good radar but can be annoying
If you drive a lot in the city I wouldn’t recommend this. It picks up a ton of different signals from all over I could be sitting at a Burger King drive through and it’s beeping k band for as long as I’m sitting there. This product is great if you are traveling a lot or use highways. The actual radar detection is pretty darn good. I’ve had my radar go off miles before a cop was there so that’s definitely great. Other then that it’s pretty much plug and use there’s no user setup at all. Other then the random signals it picks up id definitely pick this up

Great device until speaker changes tone and then stops placing risk of being detected. Then it’s useless. Quality improvement needed.. Unfortunately I have already recommended it to so many people. Now I highly discourage use of this brand..

Just got a speeding ticket woohoo
It worked until it didn’t. My radar detector went off as I passed a cop! It was lovely hearing the cop say “you have a radar detector wtf?” I also remember being parked in front of a store and staring at a cop with a radar gun and the thing didn’t go off. Not so useful, false alarm all the time. I googled the right setting for Michigan, but still a lot false alarm. And sometimes the police is right in front of me but it doesn’t work. Maybe because they hadn’t turn their radar on. But overall, the application is pretty limited.

Do you want to detect a speed trap from a mile away? Then this is it. Although they have newer models out, they do the same thing as this flagship of a radar detector. It’s already saved me hundreds of tickets, and for that I’m grateful

Bad Screen
This is the most I have spent on a radar and I’m not disappointed in the performance it gives. The features like GPS and speed has worked flawlessly. But unfortunately this is my screen 8 months after ownership. Never been dropped or wet. I’m disappointed in the amount of life it lasted. It still worked but the screen is almost completely blacked out.

Radar works well when mounted to dash picks up radar from miles away with nice audible tone for different bands. Does get lots of false positives in the city but mainly use on highway. Also don’t expect it to save you from laser if it goes off for laser and your speeding it’s too late but that’s with most detectors

May be hard to believe but it has paid for itself in just hours after first use. Easily sniffs out the ones that like to hid behind heavy brush or buildings. The only downside is that the cord is bungee type not really good for tucking into interior.

Bought after reading rave reviews
The majority of reviews (here and online) were positive on this unit. “Best Bang for the Buck” seemed to be the “theme” of most reviews. Maybe doesn’t have all the bells and whistles but is a solid performer. It arrived well packed and unopened box. (Yeah !) I used the single suction cup and it has held solid for a week now. The unit was easy to figure out how to operate…..and has come cool display options (color, what gets displayed, etc.). My daily drive is routine. With my other detector there were always “spots” I would get a warning from whatever was in that area – every time I passed there. This unit didn’t do that. It must have better discrimination or filtering on those bands. My daily drive is a hilly 4-lane. It does a good job with range – even in the series of ups and downs on my commute. I find I have at least 3X the warning distance I had with my old unit. Granted it was a cheap $100 +/- detector. I hoped I’d get better range on the warnings and it seems I have accomplished that. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase. Time will tell. I hope it survives the daily beating of the Sun – which has proven to be the killer to so many cheaper ones over the years. I’ll take it off the mount and at least place it out of direct sunlight each day.

Detected Ka band almost 3 miles away!
Very good detector. Doesn’t take much time setting up and is super easy if you’re planning on just using the cigar lighter plug in. I opted for the hardwire kit which makes muting much easier and keeps my cigar lighter free for other stuff. Seems to be very sensitive to Ka band which is pretty much guaranteed law enforcement radar and common for more well funded law enforcement agencies. My R3 detected a Ka radar almost 3 miles away on I-10 on flat terrain on the other side of the interstate in heavy traffic on that side. City mode works well at cutting out most false positives on K and X band but beware that K band is still commonly used by police and have noticed a decrease in range in city mode on a confirmed K band police radar. Can individually detect MRCD as well which in my area is usually red light cameras. The only thing I don’t like is the mounting clip can easily scratch the front of the detector if you miss the slot when trying to mount it to the suction mount because the mounting slot goes through the top of the front lens. It can be a problem because I take it out of the car every day or put it away out of sight when I’m not using the vehicle for an extended amount of time because it’s a high value item that can be easily and quickly stolen and also don’t want it exposed to the heat during the spring and summer.

Pretty sure it’s not 360 degree radar.
On my way to work it goes off if a speed meter or certain stores are on the right side or same side that you are driving on. I have driven by police cars and this thing would not go off. Who knows if the police officer was reading for speed? Goes off at tolls but it seems like the other side of the road won’t activate it. I feel like I wasted my money, should of went with another brand because this thing doesn’t seem to work like advertised. Use the WAZE App and you will be fine. Best app

Does not detect laser
I’ve had this device for several weeks now and took it on a 2000 mile trip to Utah and back. It has constant false warnings on the K band. It did pick up two speed traps using Ka band. BUT, close to my home there is bridge construction and the local cops make their quota there. Approaching the construction area, I could clearly see a cop at the end of the speed zone with a laser. I seen him a bit earlier driving in the other direction. As I approached, I could see him pointing the laser at other cars and then directly at me. NO radar warning! No even a tiny beep. It didn’t pick up the laser at all. Not even when he pointed it directly at me… I now own a very expensive windshield ornament. I’m giving it two stars because it sticks to the window and picked up the Ka band radar.
