I’ve been using my R3 for about three weeks. I went with this model over the R7 because I didn’t really see the value of the arrows and the higher price. It could be a real headache to set up but if you go to YouTube and enter “ Uniden R3 setup”there’s a guy named “Vortex” that does an excellent job of explaining things. Even better, he has a link to his webpage that lists exactly how to set things up. I’m really only scanning KA band and Lidar. The alarm goes off about a mile from the police car and it’s easy to hear with my top down and my music cranking. The display is small and kind of hard to see. You can’t make out any detail in direct sunlight but that’s par for the course. I’m using the two small suction cups and it’s staying put. I’m assuming the larger one even works better but it’s pretty large and I haven’t used it. Overall I would definitely recommend the R3.

I loved this thing when it worked, it detected from super far away with ease. Definitely saved me from a few tickets. The only 2 bad things I would say about it is that it just stopped turning on after a little over a year of having it. The other slight issue would be the screen burning in and random lines appearing.

Amazing product works as it should but need to mess with a few settings to get the most out of it. Only problem are the LCD burns. I used the standard red color as the background color and after a few months I can see that there are places were the red is burned onto screen. So now I have to keep changing the colors every month or so. Also the laser function used to work really well when I first got it but now it hardly works but the other radar functions still work great. Still overall a great product.

I read lots of reviews and I’ve owned lots of radar detectors. I bought two of these pieces of junk .. exchanged one that didn’t work then returned the replacement that didn’t work either. I missed the return window by one day to return the last one. I usually use Escort and should have stayed with that brand. Uniden is absolute, total junk that does not work right out of the box, not in three tries. I’ll just give this one away or maybe I’ll crush it just for the fun of it. I know, I know not smart but I’m never going to benefit from it anyway. I wouldn’t give or sell it to a friend. It turns on and off as it likes. You cannot turn off voice etc etc. Uniden is not going to offer you any protection you can depend on. Buy some other brand. I am going back to Escort.

Normally, this would be a 5 out of 5 but this is the second time that I have bought in this exact model and the speaker goes out after about 8 months. I’m going to contact customer support and hopefully they will rectify the situation.

I purchased this in June and put it in use in August. It stopped working in less than two months. Once connected, it goes through initial start sequence and then just hangs at ‘Laser’ screen. Product does not respond to attempts to reboot by pressing buttons. Tried contacting customer support (9 to 5 central time). They were not able to address the issue. Advised me to send product for repairs and I would be RESPONSIBLE to pay for the shipment (even though product is under warranty) The Uniden website to initiate return is very rudimentary — set me 20 year back. I’m extremely disappointed with the whole experience when my other Radar detector by competitor is working fine after 6 years and Uniden could not even last 6 months.

Almost there but fails
This device has a fatal flaw, the power cord. They went with a nonstandard rj45 style (why?) which is bad enough. But it also does not click positively into place on the side of the device and at the slightest movement it breaks continuity and… power goes off. You may not notice that you now are driving along with a dead detector. This is an automatic fail.

I bought this Over two years ago as I hate seeing reviews a week after purchase .. how can ya give an honest review in a week ….?!? However, I bought this unit June 2021… hands down the BEST RADAR OUT THERE !!! I’ve literally clocked a 6 MILE DISTANCE from where it first whistles to where the patrol car is hidden !!! Dudes in my truck all have been floored at how far this radar detects law enforcement! Camera intersections are detailed well in advance as well ! If your looking for a radar STOP LOOKING !! Great range and the speed camera database helped me avoid a ticket while driving through a borough in New York. Was able to detect a speed trap about .5 miles ahead of a bend which gave me enough time to check my speed while other vehicles passed me and one triggered the police vehicle and got pulled over. To be clear, I DO NOT speed and DO NOT encourage speeding but I have been ticketed for 5mph over the limit in the past. I do like to take road trips via route(s) that take me through small towns where the speed drops from 65 / 55mph to 25mph so having a detector gives me an additional layer of confidence. This device paid for itself after 1 road trip.

known issues
The speakers uniden chooses to put in these detectors are inferior. A brand new detector has distortion and you can tell the speaker will not last. Lots of examples online of people looking to uniden for reolacement speakers and uniden telling them to kick rocks. First the speaker blows and becomes crackly, then just stops producing sound. This happened to me tonight and I received a speeding ticket with no audible warning from the blown speaker.

Better than I expected
I have the R7 and I got this R3 model for my second vehicle so I didn’t have to keep moving it. All I can say is wow! The range on the R3 is incredible, probably just as good as the R7. This is definitely one of my favorite radar detectors.

Worth the money
I am thoroughly impressed with this product. I e had many over the years but never spent $300+ on a RD. Definitely worth it. There are so many customizable options it’s crazy! The GPS function allows you to set mutes for areas prone to false alerts. I did need a purchase a longer cord because my plug is not on the front console. Overall, I’m so happy with the purchase.

Here to share an expirence I had most of other people probably haven’t.
The thing works great, saved me multiple times from getting pulled over. But with that there is one issue, when it is detecting one cop, until that cop is fully out of range, it won’t detect a new signal that’s closer. I have had it for around 6 months now. Today I got pulled over from a cop it didn’t detect because it was busy detecting a cop like a mile back. Very frustrated at this situation as I bought this thing to help me not get tickets. But other than that issue I hope they can fix, it’s a pretty good thing.

Very Accurate but sound stopped working
To start the radar is very accurate. It detects from about 3/4 a mile away. My only complaint is that a year later the sound has stopped working and there seems to be a short in the cable. The unit itself still works but I’ll have to find a replacement cable to make the unit fully functional again. (produce sound)
