How Does the Wireless android auto car adapter Measure Up? Assessing Its Gains and Losses
Effortless and Reliable Connection: Many users, including Bill Ledbetter and TB, praise the Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter for its “Easy to install and use” capability, offering a seamless and wireless connection to the car’s display. Bill found the small size advantageous as it allowed him to “hide it in the storage compartment in the dash”, while TB was relieved to “no longer have to manually unlock my phone to use Android Auto”, finding it connected “flawlessly” every time after an initial setup.
High Compatibility and Convenience: Users like Khaled Elajam and Dave experienced consistent connectivity, with Khaled stating it “connects every single time with no drops or lag”, and Dave confirming that it “works perfectly” with multiple vehicles. This suggests the device’s compatibility with a range of car models and its reliability for maintaining a stable connection, significantly improving the driving experience by offering a cable-free solution.
Enhanced User Experience: Customers such as Danny and S. Roe found the device to significantly enhance their in-car tech interaction. Danny noted it was “well worth it for how well it works. Bulletproof!”, and S. Roe expressed delight at the convenience, stating, “It was so easy getting in the car later and voila…connected.” These experiences underline the adapter’s value in delivering a hassle-free user experience.
Connection and Durability Issues: Some users report connection stability problems and a limited lifespan. Jorge Andres Arenas describes his adapter as having turned into “just a brick” after 8 months of use, while Booger Goo experienced it “stops working after a year”. These reviews raise concerns about the device’s reliability over time and its susceptibility to connectivity issues.
Inconvenience and Compatibility Challenges: Despite the positive aspects, there are reports of the adapter not functioning as expected for all users. JR finds it “useless for drives under 15 min” due to the slow startup time, while K9dopecop points out a significant limitation, stating the device “requires VPN to be disabled”, which might be a deal-breaker for privacy-conscious users or those who rely on VPNs for work.
The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
After issues with the initial setup I was going to return it. Gave it another try glad I did. Work really well the setup take a little bite of time to get going but once it does your good. I do have an occasional and sort time issue when it losses Bluetooth connection with phone will reconnect quickly and your back a running. I would recommend that if you are going to get watch a few videos online to help with setup and be patient.
Works great when it finally connects, unfortunately i live in a small town and am at my destination 95% of the time before it finally connects…….useless for drives under 15 min.
Understanding More: Questions Answered and Explained
What is the Motorola MA1, and how does it work? The Motorola MA1 is a wireless car adapter that allows you to connect your smartphone to your car’s display without the need for cables. It’s a direct plug-in USB adapter that uses Wi-Fi to communicate with your phone, enabling you to access Android Auto wirelessly. Once plugged into your car’s USB port, the adapter pairs with your phone, and Android Auto starts automatically when you start your car, giving you access to navigation, music, and more.
Is the adapter compatible with all cars and smartphones? The adapter is designed to work with any car that has Android Auto support and a USB port. However, it is important to note that the car must have Android Auto capabilities. As for smartphones, it works with most Android phones that support Android Auto. It is recommended to check the compatibility with your specific car model and smartphone before purchasing.
How do I set up the adapter in my car?Setting up the adapter is straightforward. You plug it into your car’s USB port designated for Android Auto, pair it with your smartphone via Wi-Fi, and follow any on-screen instructions. The device typically pairs automatically once the initial setup is done, so you don’t need to reconnect manually every time.
Does the Motorola MA1 adapter require a power source? The adapter is powered through the USB port in your car. There’s no need for an external power source or battery. As long as your car is running or the accessory mode is on, the adapter will be powered and functional.
Can I still use my car’s USB port for charging while using the adapter? While the adapter occupies the USB port it’s plugged into, it typically does not prevent you from charging your phone. Many cars have multiple USB ports, so you can use another port for charging. If there is only one port, some users opt for a USB splitter or hub to retain charging capabilities alongside the adapter’s functionality.
What happens if I receive a call while using the adapter? When you receive a call, Android Auto will handle it just like it would with a wired connection. The call interface will appear on your car’s screen, and you can answer using the car’s controls. Your music or navigation will pause or lower in volume, and resume once the call is finished.
Is there any latency or delay when using the adapter for navigation or music? The adapter is designed to offer a seamless and responsive experience. There should be minimal latency or delay when using apps for navigation or music streaming. However, the performance can be influenced by factors like the smartphone’s processing power, the car’s head unit capabilities, and the quality of the Wi-Fi connection between the adapter and the phone.

Died in two months
One day it was working well, then it was occasionally failing to connect, then it no longer connects at all. Factory reset and it still can’t connect to a phone for more than a few seconds. This is pure e-waste from the minute your return period ends.

great for Bluetooth to car
Best choice to use as Android Auto to phone Bluetooth connection.
Amenah & Rabeea –
Must to have
I purchased it for both of my cars that won’t support wireless Android 2019 range rover l405 and 2022 frontier pro4x, works really good but sometimes it longer than normal to connect if there are more than 2 phones has been connected to the car, over all good upgrade. Recommended

Constant disconnecting from phone
Disconnects from phone constantly now after using for several months usually every couple of minutes. Have factory reset multiple times and it does not resolve it no longer working.

Works great….for a little over a year.
This is my second one. The first one wouldn’t connect to my new phone. So, I bought another one last July. Bought a new phone a couple weeks ago, and it won’t even show up on the Bluetooth list. I’ll be looking for something else that will hopefully last longer.

Music cuts out
Waze, maps, phone functions all work ok, but I Heart radio cuts out and fails to load more often than not. Back to the cable… still works fine.

Doesn’t last!!
Worked great for about 6 months and now it’s bricked out of the blue. Don’t buy unless you want to rebuy every 6 months.

Stopped working in 8 months – Stay away
Worked well until it didn’t. Startup connection was a little laggy but after connection was made, no real issues, that is until is stopped connecting completely. Atrempted in multiple cars, reset Andoid Auto in phone just to be sure. Purchased late January 2024. Motorola warranty is non-existent so chocking it up to a loss.
Amazon Customer –
Didn’t last long.
This thing worked great for a few months when it worked other than it would randomly disconnect once in awhile while driving. But sad to say it only lasted a few months and it won’t work at all now so I would perhaps shop for a different brand other than this one.
Amazon Customer –
Works great until it doesn’t
I have 2 of these and zero that work. Neither one can even be put into pairing mode, factory reset doesn’t work as described. 1st lasted just past warranty, 2nd also lasted just past warranty but was never really used until it ended up replacing the failed one only to also fail about 6mo later.
M.L. –
As many others say, limited life span
Just adding to the immense pile of other negative comments. Worked for six months then just bricked. My other car has a AA Wireless dongle that’s been going strong for two years. I thought a brand name like Motorola would be better, I was wrong. Waste of money, go with another brand.
Fishdish –
Fails after 12 months
First one failed just after 12 months. Second one failed at 14 months. Worked for the most part without issue. Just after 1 year both started to randomly disconnect every few minutes until disconnects were multiple times a minute.
Robyn Crete –
Worked great until it didn’t
I bought this in May of 24 and it worked amazing right out the box with little hassle connecting to my phone and car. It’s September 2024 now, and it started having connection issues where it would drop connection. Now it works for about 3 minutes then continuously trys to pair with the car and fails. The problem started and it died within a week.
Terrance –
More reliable than my car’s cable connection
I’ve been using this for 2-3 months so far with zero issues. The wired USB connection to my phone I’d been using previously was so sensitive and would disconnect and reconnect constantly. With this adapter I’ve never had it cut out once.
Caitlin –
Didn’t last
Product was great for about 4 months; then it stopped working.

Well it was great when it worked… Now, it doesn’t
Purchased one of these when they first came out to be able to connect my phone to my vehicle wirelessly to use android auto without having to plug my phone in/being tethered. These things worked great, pretty flawlessly. I bought another one for our other vehicle and all was well. The first one I got still works fine but the second one went on the fritz and would not connect to the car. I did a hard reset on the adapter, unpaired my phone with the car and cleared all the things that had my phone connected to that car. I could not get it to connect. When I tried to pair, the device would blink white and then green, white then green. I could only get the device to show on my phone for a split second and then it would disappear because the connection to pair was broken when the light blinked between green and white. I purchased another (now totaling 3) MA-1 since the return period had long since passed on the one that was now on the fritz. Got it paired to the car without any issue whatsoever. Two months pass, and guess what? The new MA-1 is doing exactly what the first one did that went on the fritz. I have spent hours in my car trying to get it to pair and I can’t get it to clear the blinking white/green. If I press and hold the button on the MA-1, it will eventually turn to a solid red. The only way to get it to move off of red is to unplug it and then plug it back in. The return window for this one has now lapsed 2 months ago and I have no way to get a replacement or one that actually works. Its truly sad that such a great device has turned to cr@p because it worked great and worked flawlessly and, well, now it’s garbage. Such a disappointment. The MA-1 in my first vehicle still works great – something has happened with the tech and has basically “bricked” itself for the one in our other vehicle.

Does not last, do not purchase.
Does not last and this seller doesn’t honor manufacturer warranty. Do not purchase.

It was okay
I have two wireless Android auto USB plugs this one and a generic one for some reason this one the sound wouldn’t go up loud enough but my cheaper one the sound went up perfectly I don’t know what the difference is but I barely use this one anymore. Might give it to a friend either way it was just okay

Mal producto

Good Build Quality, Works as Advertised
The device works in my 2017 Chevy Equinox. It does exactly what it claims to: provide Android Auto capability over built-in Bluetooth/WiFi. The only problem I’ve had is the included sticky pad wasn’t strong enough to allow the device to stick to the interior wall of my console; it falls off while driving. Would still recommend.
Ramon –
Good connection
This works great for my aftermarket radio. I can now fast charge my phone while still connected to android auto
Andres Ludeña –
El equipo dejó de funcionar de un momento a otro
Ya no se puede conectar al auto, funcionaba decentemente hasta el día de ayer cuando de la nada se desconecto del auto y ya no se volvió a conectar

After 2 years…
After two years of working well, it no longer works. I tried to reset but it won’t connect again.
Amazon Customer –
Did not work
Could not get it to work. The car kept asking for password that was not provided.
Russell Pedata –
It really works.
Easy to connect and when it does, everything is seamless. My only issue was that the short USB cable needed an extender to locate it in a convenient space.
Dave –
Failed after six months
This worked great for about five months, and then I started having connection problems. At six months it failed completely. Research showed its a very common problem. Do not recommend.
Javier Octavio Trillos Martinez –
entrega rápida
en ocasiones tarda un poco en reconocer el celular, pero en términos generales es un buen producto
Earl Betts –
Works well, FOR 3 MONTHS ONLY
I bought 2 of these for 2 new cars in May 2024. By August 2024 BOTH had failed completely and are now barely even decorative in nature. The initial setup was a breeze. Use was even easier, just get in the car and start. In early August, the unit would connect for 4 seconds, disconnect for 4 seconds and cycle like that endlessly. Unplugged it and plugged it back in, same result. Un-installed it, then paired again, same result. Now they are just another thing in the glove compartment taking up space. I used to be very happy with Motorola products, not so much now.
Mr.chandler –
Works 2017 Chevy volt
It gets rid of no audio glitch. Every couple of times would not play , had to turn car off and back on. Ma1 will restart to solve problem. Silicone pad won’t stick for long.

Stopped Working After 6 Months
The adapter worked perfectly and with no issues until this week. Now it will disconnect at random and refuse to reconnect every single time I start driving.
Jeremy Gardner –
Broken within 3 months
Device worked well for three months. Then one day, poof. Nothing but a solid red light. Tried resetting, reconnecting, and multiple things I found on the Internet. Bricked.
Brendon Hice –
Only lasted a few months
This only lasted a few months before it stopped connecting. Still have not heard back from customer service.
rebjyu –
Worked great, until it didn’t.
I have had this product for a couple of years and worked without any problems. Then it stopped working. It now says that this is no longer a supported device on my car. I have done all the updates on my car, all the updates on my phone, and it’s still does not connect anymore. Motorola does not have any updates for its device. Just wish it still worked.
tbeemon –
Doesn’t Last
I bought two of these. They have both died. The light on them has turned red and they no longer connect no matter how many times I try resetting them. Not worth the money.
Tinman –
Garbage
I bought the ma1 wireless adapter in February of 2024 and it stopped working in August 2024. In the beginning a quick unplug from USB and replug would get it going when there was a issue. I’ve spent hrs trying to reconnect it. Tried everything listed on motorolla site. Don’t waste your money or time
J. C. Ramos –
Works GREAT then DIES
Worked for almost two years, then started disconnecting. Now it’s flat out dead. Not a good product, this will let you down when you need it the most.
Amazon Customer –
Didn’t even make it a year.
Bought this back in may and it already won’t connect in my car anymore. I would try resetting it but that apparently doesn’t work anymore either.
HunnyBunny –
Not worth it. 14 month life.
$90 and it only lasted 14 months. Overheated inside hot car. Will not buy again.
Julie –
Excellent!
No need for a long cord when using Android Auto. The signal has never dropped. Just plugged it in and it automatically acknowledged my phone. Extremely easy sent up. Great design, since it’s small.
gustav –
it works only 8 monts..
Second Ma1I have ,this was warranty replacement. Both after 8 months stopped working like the reviews already described. What a pity! It seemed like a good product, till It stop working..purchase is not recommended.

Lasted Two Years
Got two years out of it, currently looking for an alternative. It worked well while I had it, very rarely dropped connection and was solid.
James Wieting –
Easy setup but…
Easy setup, but it will disconnect periodically
Chris W –
Stopped working
Worked great for a few months, now won’t stay connected for more than a few seconds. Factory reset multiples times, following steps on the Motorola website with no changes. Too late to return or exchange
Mikayla –
Great until it’s not
Worked perfectly for about 8 months to the day and then it just started glitching but would work fine, though that only lasted a week or so and then it just stopped working. No amount of resetting it or my phone makes it work anymore. I really did love it but for the cost and for how long I’ve had it I can’t justify buying another one especially if it only lasts just over half a year.
Janette Molina –
Stopped
Stopped working within a couple months. It us my second one.
Sharon Yarborough –
Worked great for about 6mo, then died
I bought two of these, one for me and one for my wife. Setup is fairly straightforward and it worked well for about 6mo, then abruptly stopped in my wife’s car. I got about 6 more weeks and then mine died. I’ve tried to do factory resets and nothing works. Tried to contact Motorola customer support multiple times with no response. Will try another brand but will not return to this one…
Tigran –
It lasted only a week.
So it was easy installation on Grand Cherokee 2020, synced easily. But device stoped casting Android auto on media system just after a week of usage. The phone is showing that Android auto is connected but car can’t recognize a connection. I have tried to reset the device but have not manged to. Long press on sync button doesn’t help at all. Will not recommend to buy, it is overpriced for just a week of use.
