How Does the Wireless android auto car adapter Measure Up? Assessing Its Gains and Losses
Effortless and Reliable Connection: Many users, including Bill Ledbetter and TB, praise the Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter for its “Easy to install and use” capability, offering a seamless and wireless connection to the car’s display. Bill found the small size advantageous as it allowed him to “hide it in the storage compartment in the dash”, while TB was relieved to “no longer have to manually unlock my phone to use Android Auto”, finding it connected “flawlessly” every time after an initial setup.
High Compatibility and Convenience: Users like Khaled Elajam and Dave experienced consistent connectivity, with Khaled stating it “connects every single time with no drops or lag”, and Dave confirming that it “works perfectly” with multiple vehicles. This suggests the device’s compatibility with a range of car models and its reliability for maintaining a stable connection, significantly improving the driving experience by offering a cable-free solution.
Enhanced User Experience: Customers such as Danny and S. Roe found the device to significantly enhance their in-car tech interaction. Danny noted it was “well worth it for how well it works. Bulletproof!”, and S. Roe expressed delight at the convenience, stating, “It was so easy getting in the car later and voila…connected.” These experiences underline the adapter’s value in delivering a hassle-free user experience.
Connection and Durability Issues: Some users report connection stability problems and a limited lifespan. Jorge Andres Arenas describes his adapter as having turned into “just a brick” after 8 months of use, while Booger Goo experienced it “stops working after a year”. These reviews raise concerns about the device’s reliability over time and its susceptibility to connectivity issues.
Inconvenience and Compatibility Challenges: Despite the positive aspects, there are reports of the adapter not functioning as expected for all users. JR finds it “useless for drives under 15 min” due to the slow startup time, while K9dopecop points out a significant limitation, stating the device “requires VPN to be disabled”, which might be a deal-breaker for privacy-conscious users or those who rely on VPNs for work.
The stars speak of…
Opinions about this product were divided in such a proportion among the buyers.
After issues with the initial setup I was going to return it. Gave it another try glad I did. Work really well the setup take a little bite of time to get going but once it does your good. I do have an occasional and sort time issue when it losses Bluetooth connection with phone will reconnect quickly and your back a running. I would recommend that if you are going to get watch a few videos online to help with setup and be patient.
Works great when it finally connects, unfortunately i live in a small town and am at my destination 95% of the time before it finally connects…….useless for drives under 15 min.
Understanding More: Questions Answered and Explained
What is the Motorola MA1, and how does it work? The Motorola MA1 is a wireless car adapter that allows you to connect your smartphone to your car’s display without the need for cables. It’s a direct plug-in USB adapter that uses Wi-Fi to communicate with your phone, enabling you to access Android Auto wirelessly. Once plugged into your car’s USB port, the adapter pairs with your phone, and Android Auto starts automatically when you start your car, giving you access to navigation, music, and more.
Is the adapter compatible with all cars and smartphones? The adapter is designed to work with any car that has Android Auto support and a USB port. However, it is important to note that the car must have Android Auto capabilities. As for smartphones, it works with most Android phones that support Android Auto. It is recommended to check the compatibility with your specific car model and smartphone before purchasing.
How do I set up the adapter in my car?Setting up the adapter is straightforward. You plug it into your car’s USB port designated for Android Auto, pair it with your smartphone via Wi-Fi, and follow any on-screen instructions. The device typically pairs automatically once the initial setup is done, so you don’t need to reconnect manually every time.
Does the Motorola MA1 adapter require a power source? The adapter is powered through the USB port in your car. There’s no need for an external power source or battery. As long as your car is running or the accessory mode is on, the adapter will be powered and functional.
Can I still use my car’s USB port for charging while using the adapter? While the adapter occupies the USB port it’s plugged into, it typically does not prevent you from charging your phone. Many cars have multiple USB ports, so you can use another port for charging. If there is only one port, some users opt for a USB splitter or hub to retain charging capabilities alongside the adapter’s functionality.
What happens if I receive a call while using the adapter? When you receive a call, Android Auto will handle it just like it would with a wired connection. The call interface will appear on your car’s screen, and you can answer using the car’s controls. Your music or navigation will pause or lower in volume, and resume once the call is finished.
Is there any latency or delay when using the adapter for navigation or music? The adapter is designed to offer a seamless and responsive experience. There should be minimal latency or delay when using apps for navigation or music streaming. However, the performance can be influenced by factors like the smartphone’s processing power, the car’s head unit capabilities, and the quality of the Wi-Fi connection between the adapter and the phone.

Breaks After A Month Or Two
Second one ive bought. Neither lasted more than a month or two. Great while its working but a real shame.
Bryan –
Works initially, then throws error
I have a 2020 Mazda CX-5 that I bought this wireless Android Auto unit for. It works fine for about 15-20 minutes, then my car says there is an error with the device…..give it about 2 minutes and it will reconnect. It’s a constant cycle of that. When it’s working it’s great, but it has not been reliable.
Brit –
No updates
I was super excited for this wireless android auto connection. It worked amazing for about 3 months and then my phone did an update. There is no way to update the firmware on the Motorola device so now it constantly disconnects from my vehicle and takes 1-2 minutes to reconnect. I was initially very happy but now it’s a nuisance to use.
Brad Jones –
Works as advertised
The product worked with my Lexus RC and my new Razor phone as I always needed to use a cable. It was easy to connect.
Mark R. Graves –
Very dependable. Just works great.
I’ve had mine since February 2023 – so a year now. I use it in a 2023 Subaru Forester Wilderness. The MA1 is very very easy to set up and just works great (at least with my Pixel 6 Pro phone). It just works and makes the car have wireless Android Auto as you would expect it would have acted as of it were built in. I’ve not had a single issue in over a year and it starts Android Auto within about 15 seconds.

Great Update
Used this in a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek for wireless Android connection thus eliminating cable. Phone is Samsung Galaxy S22+. Good to actually read all directions first. For the most part setup is pretty straightforward and so far it works well.
Andrew –
Works great easy install
Works well in my Tundra. Only issue I have is if I get to far away from the truck and lose connection I cannot reconnect unless I shut the truck off and back on. Other than that it works flawlessly
Jacob –
Constantly disconnects
Android auto works flawlessly connected via cable to my vehicle. The Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter would disconnect multiple times within a 20 minute drive. Tried factory resetting it, tried numerous tricks like messing with wifi scanning and enabling dev options. No luck just drops connection for my Pixel 8 after a few minutes of use, reconnects, drops again in a few minutes, loop.

Doesn’t like VPN being connected while using, but otherwise good investment
Tired of stringing cable a to connect Android Auto so I bought this little fella and it worked out great. It uses 5GHz wifi + bluetooth to work so you can’t disable either radio. First pairing was kind of clunky and delayed so be patient and check your phone for any notifications. What I mean by clunky is, at one point you have to plug in your phone to trigger android auto to come up on your radio, then it tells you to quickly unplug wired cable and plug in the wireless adapter. Mine didn’t pair the first try, but it could have been that I didn’t wait long enough for the first bluetooth/5GHz wifi pair (shrug). Works seamlessly after the first install. One thing that I didn’t find more information on was if it auto-shutdowns after the car turns off, for some reason this adapter stays powered on after my car is completely off? That particular USB port doesn’t continue to stay powered on after the cars off per the manual so I’m not sure how this adapter stays powered on. I’ll have to do more testing.

Works flawlessly
Works so well that you’ll forget about it.

Connection issues
Works great 50% of the time. Never connects when you need it. I have a newer Mercedes and there is no reason why it shouldn’t connect every single time.
TB –
Not working anymore
It’s great at first and now it gets disconnected and now can’t connect anymore. Such a waste
Brandon B –
Useless after less than a year
Had this product 9 months and it constantly crashes and keeps shutting down while driving. Waste of money for a product to not even last a year. Save your money and find a different option.

it just works!
Prior to buying this, i tried 3 other ones from off brand / no name types, and none of them worked for my 2016 accord EX sedan so when i saw this on sale, i thought, why not? plugged it in, paired, and……. it just works! i no longer need to plug anything in and it connects every time i just plugged it in so lets hope it can perform well over time

Only one issue so far
This has made using Android auto wirelessly in my 2020 Toyota Tundra pretty flawless. The only issue that I have had so far is that I wear BT hearing aids and my Toyota truck connects to my phone as well. In order for this Motorola Android auto device to wirelessly connect to my phone , I have to turn off the Bluetooth to my hearing aids, otherwise it will not connect.
NO –
Does not always connect to my phone
The product just does not always connect to my phone. I do not know if the issue is why it is happening (might be interference from my dashcam) but it only connects around 50% of the time. When I try to connect to it manually it asks for a wifi password. When I reached out to customer service they said that none of their products require passwords.

Dies after a year
I have had two now. They work great for about a year and then die and no longer connect. Attempts to reset it show a red led light.
Om –
When it works it’s great but it’s stops working after a few months
I’ve had this over a year and the problems started a few months in. Have to keep resetting it and wishing it’ll keep working. Now it’s not functional at all.
Alexandre Tremblay –
Flawless with pixel phone
Easy to setup. Reliable. Connects relatively quickly (approx 10-15 sec after ignition).
David –
Quality control lacking
First one I ordered arrived defective (had intermittent flashing white light and then after hitting the reset button it had a solid red light). Returned it and second one arrived functional. So, when you first connect it into a USB port that connects to the Android Auto on your infotainment system, it’ll first light up white, the briefly green, then it should flash blue (indicating it’s ready to pair). If yours did what my first one did, then it is defective. Remember they’re being manufactured in China. So quantity is preferred over quality. Just return it for a second one and you should be OK.
Melvin K. Patterson –
Works but occasionally drops out
Android Auto needed to be wireless from the start and it’s a real shame it needs a dongle to do it. That said, this dongle works. There are occasional dropouts and I’m a little stumped as to why, but nothing really permanent and it resyncs on its own. Overall, very satisfactory.
William Stubbert –
Yo, this unit is AWESOME
Connected in 3 seconds flat. Works amazingly well, with all functions. Tried 3 other off brand units with variable success. This one was truly plug and play easy. GET THIS ONE…YOULL BE HAPPY 😁
P. Tom –
Almost perfect
This has worked almost perfectly. There is a brief delay between starting the car and the connection being made but not excessively so. When riding as a passenger, I give control of the radio to the driver but if I try to watch a video on my phone, the adapter routes it through entertainment console. I try to disconnect by turning off the blue tooth and it forces it back on. Also if I’m not in the car when it starts the adapter won’t link with my phone. Since I’m the driver 95% of the time, it’s not a major issue. On the whole I’m happy with it.

Does not work with my 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 SLT.

Well…….I believe wired AA still a better option than a wireless adapter
After I spent an hour on this discounted wireless adapter, I came out with some bad impression. I do not think the MA1 is the guilty one, but Google AA is. The sound quality is slightly worse than wired AA. The most worse thing is battery drain very fast with wireless AA.
Keith A. Bryant –
Easy peasy.
Easy set up, now I can charge phone while connected to car Android.
Kent F. –
Works Exactly As Advertised
I has having issues with my wired connectivity for Android Auto constantly going in and out of service. I purchased this wireless Android Auto Wireless adapter and it works perfectly. Start my car and in less than a minute, the Android Auto app is running on my screen. I highly recommend this product!

What’s up
I could not get the device to work.
Alex B –
Works, but not as good as some alternatives
This adapter is a mixed bag. On the plus side: Recognized brand; It works (most of the times); Easy setup (very much Plug-and-play) On the minus: The firmware is not updatable; Notable interference from some sources – the connection is getting knocked off at the same place every time I am driving. Connection is slower than some alternatives. Considering similar pricing AAWireless performs better. Their next iteration promises to be even more advanced, and most probably I will replace the MA-1 with it.

Recieved used anf Not able to connect second properly
What I received is no where near new product. The sticky pad was attached to the device and the other end of the sticky pad was attached to the packaging. To top it all off, after initial successful connection with 2 phones, it keeps on forgetting 1 phone at random. Tried all kinds of things but seems like it has mind of its own when it comes to selecting a phone it wants to work with

Automatically Connected Andriod Auto
FINALLY!!!! The device I was looking for! My phone automatically pairs with my trucks Android auto feature without needed additional USB cable! I can now use my phone freely (*not while driving) without needing it to be connected via USB cable so that i can retain my music, navigation, or calling functions. The install is as easy as plugging it in, pairing thr device to your phone, and then mounting it with the provided sticky pad or 3m tape for a sleeker look. As long as your Bluetooth is on and the device led is green you are connected and good to go. 100% recommend this to anyone that has the 1st generation Android auto in their car or truck that requires them to have their phone plugged in all the time.

Generally works but predictably unstable
It’s abundantly clear Motorola didn’t test this device in a city. While it generally works fine and is easy to setup, it completely fails in the same locations due to interference. Would not buy again.
Jejpu rates this book –
It works. It’s easy to install.
I’ve had this for three months. Installation was easy following the simple instructions, and it works like it’s supposed to. If there’s any delay between pushing a button on my phone and the car reacting, it’s not noticeable. I recommend it.

Never worked
I have spent hours trying to make it work. I was unable to connect to the devise.

Works Great
This took about ninety seconds to install. It works great. Stay away from AAWireless. It’s junk.
Donaldhellriegel –
not worth the money
it stopped working will not pair up
JollyRoger –
Quick, painless, it just works
Fantastic device that works every time I get in the vehicle automatically without having to even click to connect. The only issue is that once in a blue moon I will find it disconnect and it seems to be susceptible to radio interference and it appears that’s what causes the issue as I’ve noticed that it has problems in the same parts of town. So just keep that in mind otherwise it’s fantastic.

Wonderful customer service!
I bought this product back in February. It has been working wonders up until in December. I called their customer service and told them my problem with the product. It was still under warranty and they replaced it. The process was frictionless and almost effortless. You gotta give credit when its due. Thank you for the wonderful customer service!

Adds Wireless Android Auto to Vehicles Having Only the Wired Version
This works flawlessly and was dead simple to set up. It activates wireless Android Auto as soon as I get in the vehicle with my cell phone and turn the ignition on. It is a “Set and Forget” device.
david bailey –
Occassionally disconnects unexpectedly.
There’s are two area that I pass and there is something that always causes it to disconnect. It happen in other places at random times but not too often, but always annoying 🙄 Still, when it’s working, which is most of the time it’s great. It’s but it again.

Works seamlessly
This is a great product! It was easy to install and set up and works seamlessly. I would highly recommend.

Excellent must-have product.
This is my second purchase and it really is a superb product that enables wireless Android in your car. The installation is a breeze and very easy.

Works great, but kills your phone battery
Picked this up because I was tired of wires running around my car to run Android Auto from my phone. Super easy to set up and get it running, works really well for its part in the process. But Android Auto just destroys the battery in my GalaxyS21. Its not so bad running wired, but running wirelessly it is just a powersink. That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with this little unit itself, but I just wanted to let others know my experience using it. It’s more on Android Auto than on this little guy.

Works Sometimes
I am using this to connect to a 2018 F-150 XLT. Setup of the device was very easy and only took a couple minutes. It works most of the time, however it seems to function worse when my cab is cold. Additionally it randomly disconnects from the truck sometimes and the auto reconnects (it will do this a few times in a row). It seems to be a decent solution to get android auto working in a vehicle that doesn’t come with it.

VOLUME CONTROL SWITCHES
I like it, but in my rav 4, when I’m listening to You Tube and want to turn up the volume, it switches over to news Reuters, and I have to touch my phone screen again for the You Tube song again.

100% works perfectly
I inherited a 2018 car from my wife and have a Motorola phone with a big battery. I didn’t like having to plug it in whenever I got in the car so I decided to try this. It worked perfectly with absolutely minimal screwing around. Plug it into the car and pair the phone with it. That’s it. It’s small and easy to hide. It does take a couple of minutes to sync up each time you get in and start the car. A little more time than getting down the driveway and onto the street. It does seem to require two concurrent BT connections; one to the audio head unit and one to itself. If you’re having trouble, pair the phone to the car then pair it with this.
